EDIT (27.05.2013.):

Since pOcHa and Bruno are doing this rom with more knowledge and energy than I am,

you can follow Baidu rom development at following topics:

Baidu by pOcHa:

Baidu v27 beta:

What`s so special about this rom?

Well it is like Google made a rom for G300, only this one is the chinese "Google" company.

Original UI, ICS 4.0.4, good memory management, great 2g/3g use,

low consumption - you can leave wifi and gps on permanently - you`ll see :)

In call recording, volume button wake up, stock camera OCR, SMS pop-up...

Butchered:

-Removed chinese apps, well ~99% is exorcised. :)

-Removed chinese cwm (you get that one in the original release :))

-Corrected installation script for U8815 (it looks for U8818 otherwise)

-Corrected installation script for chinese recovery instalation

Simple, huh?

EDIT: Recommended version is ROM20!

Download Link: (Baidu ROM20, ROM21, ICS Google apps, HwIme keyboard, file manager from Shendu):

Details are here:

############################################################################### Installation instructions (for OTA check the above link): - You have to have ICS (baseband 2030), rooted, unlocked bootloader and a recovery (cwm, maybe twrp) - Download zip file (rom), gapps for ICS, HwIme or another and transfer that to SDcard - Turn on debugging on your phone, turn off fast boot, turn off phone (some folks remove battery now:)) - Press vol. up and power button together for 10 seconds. - You are in CWM now (probably) - Wipe data/factory reset - Wipe cache partition - Mounts: Format System, Cache, Cust, Data - Advanced: Wipe Dalvik cache, battery stats if you have them, Reboot recovery - Install zip from SDcard -> choose zip -> your rom (zip) - Install zip from SDcard -> choose zip -> gapps for ICS (zip) - Reboot to system - while installation you`ll get "random offset" message. It is normal - google that. Leave your phone now for 5 minutes, let it take a breath. Skip Google intro. You don`t have a keyboard yet, so go to your rom`s file manager and find HwIme keyboard, install it. Change default lock screen to slide (default one is slow): Settings -> Security -> Lock Screen -> Slide Go to Developer options in settings and switch off animations. bftz2mslysskxxx1xm.gif Few more things: You can flash OC kernels with this rom, but loosing BT functionality then :( In ROM21, go to Menu - Preferences - Turn off Bulletin and Spring festival animation OTA versions: ROM20 to ROM21 (check the original link, and flashing info in a txt file there) Other versions: ROM20 - look in the original download link ROM19 - modded by Chiwah - same as above ROMv2 - a stable release, based mostly on ROM19 (pOcHa release):
http://www.modaco.com/topic/360527-romics404-baidu-yi-v2-stable-beta-v19-english-repack/
Thanks drugare.... :)

Those 1% of chinese stuff are what?

+1

btw, does it have OTA, or do you need to install it manually for every new version?

also, how is it compared, performance wise, to lightning rom?

and Keshavkrs said "it has good gaming support", what does that mean exactly?

hvala na trudu, poz...

Thanks - good effort! Looks good & useful new features. If battery & ram management is as good as reported then it's a tempting option - might give it a try when I have free time

PS - Is it called "Dietetic Fortnight release" becos it's "low consumption" :P

@all above

Chinese leftover stuff:

First from left home screen after installation - some nice widget?, but in chinese -> solve by: menu button, turn off - forever.

Notification bar - when pulled down there`s some small chinese sign near bottom -> gone when HwIme keyboard is installed :)

SMS - the button for sending message - after HwIme keybord is installed, and send first message - it changed to paper airplane. :)

OTA - not for now, and true geek changes rom every day, so there`s no point in OTA :D

Didn`t try games, but everyday functions are superb, this is a 4.0.4 ICS, not the 4.0.3 one btw

Yep.

Dietetic - matter of fact: hungry. It needs you to feed it with your favorite apks.

Fortnight - meaning 14days renewal (I hope I will be up to this rhythm  )

Few more details I found out today:

yes, OTA probably wouldn't work anyway cause you said it only targets the chinese U8818 models

and btw, all the improvements you mentioned could be just from the fact that it is a new ICS 4.0.4 instead of our old 4.0.3 version:

http://www.androidauthority.com/android-4-0-3-vs-4-0-4-vs-4-0-5-75651/

custom rom builders should use this as their base from now on...

The settings options look good but it is a shame that it is based on B926 as it is such an old release.

Hi Cyda, Im confused about this numbers:

B926 is 4.0.3 ?

CM9 is 4.0.4 ?

Would you be nice to explain it a bit? :)

Maybe it is 4.0.4, I don't know but these lines are in the build.prop and they are not in CM9, so it seems to have at least some connection with B926.

well maybe it just forked at that build, and if they managed to cram a whole new ics version in it, surely they fixed more things than huawei did since then too ?

i'll try it myself tomorrow and report...

Btw. I deleted Baidu internet browser from this rom, but it was looking nice, although chinese.

So I checked later on play and installed it (non chinese). A very good browser I`d say.

Ok, thought I'd give this rom a try. On initial boot the system is set to Chinese language, easy enough to go to settings and change.

Everything seems to work, all seems smooth and pretty slick.

I thought I'd try a custom kernel and can report that Paul Millbank's latest release works fine on this rom.

The only Chinese stuff left I can see is on the lock screen.

Cheers, Ben.

....The only Chinese stuff left I can see is on the lock screen.

- If you flash rom, and gapps, both while in CWM, you can change to englesh as system boots to first screen.

- I dont have any chinese stuff on lockscreen?
