Looking to buy the Blade III tomorrow. Hoping you guys can work out the sim lock. Virgin say that after you've paid them £15.32, it can take up to 28 days to deliver the unlock code!

Don't you just love consistent customer service? I just called Virgin, paid my £15.32 and was told the code would be posted to my home address within 7 days.

Will find out in around a week I suppose :)

Phoned on the Wednesday, unlock code arrived in the post on Monday morning. Can't grumble at that.

I can confirm Virgin are happy to unlock a newly purchased Blade 3 if you ring them up and cough up the £15.32. I was quoted 5 to 7 working days for the code to be posted out and it arrived in 5 days. Even with the unlock it still seems like pretty good value to me.

So QPST method works but we don't have the files.
Can these files be taken from a factory unlocked one?

I bought my Blade III at Orange CH and ordered an unlock code at unlockingonline.com for 10€. It should arrive tomorrow. I'll keep you updated if it worked.

[edit]
UnlockingOnline just wrote me an email telling me that they weren't able to find an unlock code for my phone and refunded the full amount.
So at least that's a positive sign that they didn't take my money and ran away with it.
I would not recommend using this service, but if someone wants to try/verify, they seem to be unexpectedly legit.

New plan: I'll buy a 10.- Nokia at an Orange Shop which allows me to get an unlock code for free (because I've bought a new phone).
At least that's what they write on their website.

Nope, unfortunately not, even if they write it on their website.
So there's actually nothing you can do, they will find all kind of reasons for not having to unlock your phone.

So the only way to really unlock the phone is doing a direct unlock with whatever dongle you have lying around.

Very sad :(

Anybody seen or know anything about this 'unlock', I don't have the phone yet, and may never get one the way virgin is going!

yeah, thanks for leading me in to the depths of indian internet dude ...

as I figured out after 1h search, tool is available only for purchase and it even appears that the Infinity box is cheaper than this tool. real nice share by these Romanians, but only for service shops not for us regular people. The only difference is that box is not required anymore, and we MAY hope that someone is going to piratize this software and once we download it, keep quiet about it.

Tool name: Furious Gold QCOM_SMART_TOOL_v1.0.0.8681

price: about 50USD

website: dead at the moment (probably some free hosting and whatnot) but should be: www.furiousgold.com

Do not search for it, as it is only mentioned in ridiculous indian forums where people butcher english in the worst ways imaginable. there is no link for downloading it, as I have checked the last google page.

unlocking procedure:

EDIT:
QCOM_SMART_TOOL_v1.0.0.8681 is actually an update for the "furious gold" software for unlocking. and these dudes SOMEHOW managed for this piece of software not to be cracked (which is unbelievable cause tool has been around from 2006). so yeah, forget about it.

Unfortunately this is completely useless if you don't have Furious Gold already.
