Hi, In any ROM post I see, to flash you have to wipe Dalvik cache? What is this and what is it for? If I wipe it would it free up some space, and make the phone faster as clearing the cache in apps seems to make it faster?

What is this for?

Thanks

George

Dalvik is the virtual machine in which all apps run on Android. The Dalvik cache is simply the data cache for it. By wiping the cache you are removing all previously cached data, which is important to do when updating files to prevent crashes. After being wiped Dalvik will just re-cache the data it needs on next boot.

More info and probably a far better explanation than my attempt above. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalvik_%28software%29

So its like the hibernate file on the hard disk in a computer (Windows) (the hyberfile.sys file in the C: Drive)

Anyway, Thanks

P.S Re: Andy, do you have a link for this youtube video, or the title of it?

Thanks

George
