I'm not sure when this first happened but today I've noticed that my SD card is not being detected. When I enter 'Storage' in settings and scroll to the bottom it says 'Insert an SD card for mounting'. Restarting the phone doesn't help. What should I do?

Have you checked the card on a computer either by connecting the phone to it or by inserting the card? Happened to me recently, the card wasn't being recognised by either the phone or the pc. The card was corrupt so I had to get a new one. Moral of the story:always backup your data to another storage device.

Couldn't you have just reformatted the card? I don't think you need to replace a card because the file system on it was corrupt? Or do you mean something else?
When the phone is connected to my PC the SD card is not recognised but wouldn't this be expected given that the phone itself is in the way? My PC does not have its own card reader.

As the card was not recognized by the phone or the pc, I couldn't reformat it. The only other option I had was to replace it.

ClockwordMod ROM Manager also won't read the card so I can't install a different ROM (which I was hoping might fix the problem, assuming it's not with the card). I don't know whether ClockworkMod ROM Manager relies on any software components that would be replaced by installing a new ROM.

Try booting a live CD/USB Linux (e.g. Mint (http://www.linuxmint.com/) + Pendrive Linux (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/)) and see if it can read the card perhaps?

On my computer you mean? I don't have a card reader so I can't do that.

Oh - sorry - missed that. But a USB sdcard reader (and a micro to regular sdcard adaptor if needed) should cost next to nothing these days...
For example: US$1.05 delivered!
