Here at MoDaCo we're quietly big fans of the MediaTek MT6589 chipset. Cheap, performant, reliable and in a growing number of great value devices... it's the pick of the crop for budget Chinese phones at the moment... and now a turbo version is available!

There appears to be 2 main differences between the MT6589 and MT6589T (turbo) devices. The first, main one is that the CPU is clocked at 1.5GHz rather than 1.2GHz, giving a handy performance boost to an already very capable chip. The second is that a lot of turbo devices seem to be shipping with 2GB RAM as opposed to the 1GB found on the non-turbo phones. The GPU remains the very capable PowerVR SGX544.

A quick search at BuySKU reveals a number of devices shipping now with the new chip, including eagerly anticipated (in some circles!) handsets like the TCL Idol X, Umi X2 and the iOcean X7 Elite. We've been testing the waters with companies like BuySKU ourselves, stay tuned for a customer service / returns test article coming up!

We've been putting a X7 through it's paces of late so it seems a no-brainer that we should pick up an Elite and compare, right? :) Watch this space.

You have the Acer Liquid E2 that ships with a MT6589 for 199€ and the Acer Liquis S1 will ship by the end of August with a MT6589T for 300-349€ :-)

look forward to the article - I am one who is looking forward to a comprehensive review of the iocean x7 elite - especially the wifi and GPS which seem to be the only areas that may let it down. Plenty of youtube videos of these phones but they never test the gps - which makes me suspicious.

Also been looking at the thl w8+ (looks like a Samsung knock off) and the FAEA F1 penquin (this is at the cheaper smaller end - 4.5" screen)

Looking forward to your X7 review, Mt6589 is looking very promising. I am currently cooking up a Vowney V5 review, any chance it might get featured on the front page if its up to scratch??

Pop it on the forum and let one of us know about it and if it's up to scratch then we'll feature it on the front page :D

Same goes for anyone else that fancies reviewing something in the future as we are always on the look out for reviews from the community. After all, it's you lot that use these devices day to day so it's great to know what you really think.

They all look nice, ,but with my eyes I need a larger phone

do you know of any "chinese" decent phones with 5.5-6.5" screens

keep your eyes peeled for the "Xiaomi Mi3" it is supposed to have quad-core snapdragon 800 2.4ghz cpu, 5.5" 1080p screen, 2gb ram,32gb rom, 13mp camera, 3000+mah battery e.t.c and will be the fastest most powerfull device on the market when released, it is speculated the release date will be august because that's when Xiaomi have released all other Mi devices. also said to be $320 that's roughly £210 in sterling. more here: http://www.gizchina....umour-round-up/
