This is the HTC One Mini. Our Glacial Silver One Mini. It's like a HTC One, but mini-er. It's in the MoDaCo office and we're putting it through it's paces, but do you have any questions? Ask away!

In case you've forgotten (we originally covered it in this post), the 132 x 63.2 x 9.25mm (vs the original's 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm) device features a 4.3" 720P screen, a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM and the same Ultrapixel camera found in it's big brother (albeit without Optical Image Stabilisation). BoomSound too makes the cut as does Sense 5 with Blinkfeed of course. The whole package is powered by a 1800mAh battery.

Now, those might sound like a downgrade in specs, but let me share a little secret with you - with the 720P screen (which I still think is going to look great at 4.3") I think this handset is gonna perform brilliantly and be a cracking little (ish) phone.

Of course, you'll have to wait for the review to find out for sure...

Here you go Paul, some starters for ten.

How are the power and volume buttons compared to the One?

Both are very flush on the One, I hope they've raised them a little. I see from images they've separated the volume rocker into two pieces on the Mini. Better?

How much smaller does it actually feel in the hand? I find it nigh on impossible to get to top right of the screen with my thumb on my One the way I hold it in one hand.(small hands!) The Mini looks narrower, but still very tall.

I'm interested how the whole Zoe/Continuous shooting features work with the lesser processor and just 1GB ram. Just as snappy? I can't imagine HTC would release the Mini with those specs and foul the whole camera bit up.

Early days, but I wonder in general use how much of a miss the optical image stabilization is going to be?

Is the Notification LED still the same paltry red/green unconfigurable effort? :(

Boomsound speakers just as good vs the One?

What version of Android does it ship with? 4.2.2?

How good is the screen? Does it keep up the usual HTC tradition of being damn good?

Crazy question..... is there really much noticeable difference between 720 in 4.3" and 1080 in 4.7"? Ie screen real estate?

Yeah, I think so. They're still quite flush but they are better I think.

It feels WAY smaller, more of a difference than I expected. Much more manageable.

TBC!

It would appear so!

Boomsound speakers just as good vs the One?

I haven't done a side by side yet but I think they might be slightly quieter?

What version of Android does it ship with? 4.2.2?

Yup.

Yes, very good indeed!

Maybe slightly, but it's close!

Possibly a bit off topic, but would be interested to see the comparison in the 'step down' from the One and One Mini, and the S4 and S4 Mini. Is one more of a compromise than the other?

Any news on a UK release date as I am thinking of ditching both my iPhone 4 and Huawei Ascend G510 and just have one good, mid-range/price handset?

Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse both say 9th August. Not long to wait. :)

Carphone Warehouse have it listed at £379 sim-free.

The more I see the pictures of them both, the more I think the 'stealth black' looks better, especially with that new bumper around the outside.

Dropped by a Phones4u today and had one of these in my hot, sweaty hands. It is a BIG phone and a thing of beauty. Seriously considering ditching the iPhone 4 and Ascend G510.

Big? Its tiny compared to the full sized One. :-)

Having held it myself, it's a fantastic size. Just fits in the hand perfect. You can get to all the screen with just your thumb one handed. You just can't do that with devices with bigger screens.

I'm thinking of downsizing from the One to the Mini. :-)

Damn, now I am conflicted. The Carphonewarehouse is selling this at the same price as the Blackberry Z10. My sister has the Blackberry and I really like it.

Paul, I need to replace my wife's Razr I due to the camera not working (its on and off) but she wants something similarly sized... Not wanting to downgrade her screen size and if she needs a new phone at least I can go for the best in class, so it comes down to the One mini or S4 mini. The One mini seems pretty large for (small) lady hands but it looks so much better, what do you think?

I have yet to try this phone out, but am I the only one wishing for HTC One specs on a HTC One Mini sized phone?

Having owned, briefly, the S4 and HTC One (plus having large hands) I found that the HTC One was easily my prefered choice especially handling both devices, although I did enjoy the S4's larger screen for media playback.

So if I had to honest a HTC One Mini would only really be considered in terms of price for my own personal use but one to be considered.
