Hi everyone.

All credit goes to Paul for his work.

I made this by unpacking the stock rom image and then inserting the rooted system.img

Just flash with Paul's method from this post http://www.modaco.com/topic/365575-stock-hudl-rom-for-rktools/

Thanks to Paul NOT me. Just sharing.....

Yes this ROM still has ALL the Tesco stuff

Mick.

I will add a link when I get permission from Paul

Edit: I've waited 2 weeks but still no reply. please read Post 13 here

Hi,

any news? Where I can get the rooted system.img?

Thanks...

Hi, I got the system.img from here

http://www.modaco.com/topic/365530-how-to-root-your-hudl/#entry2161837

I have built a Full ROM and I'm trying to speak to Paul first before I release it. Nothing illegal just courtesy.

I'll give him a few days.

Mick

Can't help thinking you shouldn't have started the thread until you'd got the permission...

I agree. People will visit the thread a few times, see nothing on each occasion & not bother returning. This is what happens with "Under Construction" website notices - the visitors don't care that you're telling them it's being built- they can't know that, they just want to see the site, and probably won't come back.

Hello everyone,

After seeing ALL the requests about "Ghost Towns" and NO Devs I was just trying to get some Google "SEO" action to this website.

Thanks to Paul for his work in getting me this far. I could NOT have done it WITHOUT his efforts

@glossywhite   I DO find my own work rewarding. Please Try for yourself.

Mick

Sorry, I did not mean to sound ungrateful - I just found it slightly unusual that you've started a thread, clearly entitled "Rooted Stock Rom", but then have posted no ROM. Bringing hits to the site for this thread, will be EMPTY hits - that would be tricking people under false pretenses, and they'd get a bad image of Modaco based upon that - hardly a useful thing to do, is it. Even if your motivation was well intended, your execution was flawed - there's no ROM to see, so the thread is redundant - you can't blame people for wondering where it is, since you've clearly made a thread advertising it :)

As for my finding my work rewarding... I do it because I enjoy the actual challenge and experience OF the work - I don't do it simply to gain adoration or people thanking me - that's very kind when people do, and everyone is most welcome to share my work, but I do it because I enjoy technology, and then - once I have cracked whatever it is, I feel a great reward in sharing - if you search around the internet, you'll see I have contributed *A LOT* to mobile phone and router hacking over 7+ years, under this name - "glossywhite" and under my router hacking name "unlokia"... but then, so have MANY other people, and we all have different skills which we can share.

So, unless there is a ROM to share, maybe you'd be prudent to close the thread, as you've requested. I feel no animosity toward you, I just felt it was an odd thing to do, and rather misleading.

PS: Modaco has been around A LONG LONG LONG time - I'm sure Paul would ask the members if he was seeking help in advertising and doing SEO - that's a kind idea, regardless, but maybe not well planned and unnecessary.

Take care :) have a lovely weekend.

Hi Hal2710,

Whilst I agree with everyone by saying "to advertise a post, and have nothing to show for it" can be misleading...?? I dont feel it should destract you from the work and effort you have done. And I can't see why you cant just go ahead and release it anyway, without asking for permission...??

Sure, the Rom has Root access gained via Paul's root method... But at the end of the day, whether it be Paul, whether it be Bob, John, or TinkyWinky.... at end of day, Root is Root, no matter who it comes from. Your not giving away his work, as he has already posted and expressed/explained how he has done it... So anyone can do it if they want. Your just providing a means for others to gain Root (maybe, even at an easier way of doing so, for those who dont have a Linux rig at hand).

So all in all, your just providing a means (beit easier) to something that already exists, and without people like You, or GlossyWhite, Paul and anyone elese who has contributed.... Then we may as well not have this forum, and the product will die of support (much like the Blade V is... such promising hardware, yet hardly anyone has developed for it yet).

So please DON'T close the thread, or give up... Simple edit your first post, and provide a link...  You've asked, waitied, done all you can... without any movement, the product won't gain any further support/development...

To all those who have contributed, namely who I listed above, and others I may of missed... Keep up the good work... Forums need continual drive like you!! :)

Cheers, Lister

So... Is there going to be a rooted ROM or not? It would be very useful because i don't have an Linux system at home; if i mess up my Hudl i have to create an Ubuntu bootable USB and get it set up, which is a lot harder than it sounds... Then i have to go through the process of rooting the device inside the terminal which is way to difficult for someone like me, who has very little experience in the Linux environment. It took me many stressful days to get everything sorted out when i first rooted my Hudl. If we had ROM already rooted for us, things would be so much easier! Come on guys! :)

It shouldn't be too hard for you - you're the Tesco hudl - you execute Linux code every millisecond!

Well Ok here you all go........

I have tried to contact Paul, but he still hasn't replied.

I have been working on my project some more (with help from ROM Guru 900supersport over at  Freaktab).

I now have a Fully Rooted image, I've also added a Custom CWM recovery that I bulit. Thanks to glossywhite for his list of apks to remove.

Try here. Flash via Pauls method in OP

Thanks for sharing :) will have a look at your CWM if I can get it out of there, and see if there's a way to get it onto my Hudl without flashing the whole rom :)

Thanks very much!! I might flash this ROM tonight because my Hudl's memory is full and it desperately needs clearing up a bit... I didn't want to reset the device in the settings because i worried i might loose my root access and all the other little mods i have done. :)

Cheers, and well done on finally posting it up! :D

EDIT: Surprisingly quick download on my Internet connection too, i was expecting a couple of hours at least, but it's only gonna take 30 minutes which isn't bad going!

Hi Hal2710,

Awesome work my friend, you have done a FANTASTIC and extremely useful work here dude...  Perfect timing too, as mums Hudl arrived last night, just started configuring but not made to many changes yet.

So will flash this, and make my own mods too it... (for mums benifit).

Does the CWM in it work really well, in that I can make Backups in it, and restore from it...?? As once I built it, I will backup in case mum messes it up... lol

Cheers, Lister

Hi Lister,

Because of the way the Hudl internal storage is set up, CWM cannot MOUNT the sdcard.

BUT........YES you can make a full CWM backup to "external sdcard" AKA Full Nandroid backup.

You have to restore from "external sdcard" but I normally do this anyway incase of a bad flash on the update.

Hi Hal2710 / Mick,

Oh right, that's cool... Yeah thats how it use to work on the ZTE Blade too.... As it had limited storage, unlike Hudl.... So we had to save onto external SD Card.

Where as my Samsung, I can save to either local or external. Thankfully the local still stays there even after a factory/wipe... ;-)

But yeah this method (thank you so much) will enable me to create the perfect setup, and than make a snapshot of it, in case it gets messed up due to unfamiliar Android user ;) (aka, my mum).

Cheers, Lister

That's great.  Can I second Hippy Dave's views?  I would be really interested in a means of installing the Custom recovery without overwriting the whole ROM as I have already spent some effort making it the way I want it - and of course SWMBO wants the bloatware left in place!

Very impressive hal2710 I'll have a play with this - any chance of a future TWRP version?

Hey, no worries, this will do for now :ninja: , maybe those multicoloured hen's teeth I bought the other day are bringing some good vibes to the hudl  :D

We wouldn't be where we are without you guys on this forums support and inspiration.

Yeah here's a third for that as well.

Posted a query on Ian's thread related to big differences in image file size between this one and Paul's stock image. Just not sure which of the two threads was the best to use - not intentially cross posting

I managed to extract hal2710's CWM recovery.img from this rom, and install it using rkflashtool. If hal2710 doesn't mind I can share the .img and give instructions that will work for people who managed to use Paul's original root method.

Thanks again hal2710 for the CWM :)

Why could they mind? It's open source.
