Mad Catz are a well known third party gaming peripherals maker who are now branching out into their own first party console hardware. They showed off their M.O.J.O. all the way back at E3 in June and they have finally announced pricing and availability of their micro-console as well as the full specs.

The M.O.J.O. will come with a 1.8Ghz quad core Tegra 4 T40S processor which should provide plenty of gaming oomph. We often bemoan the relative sluggishness of the Tegra 3 but it has always performed well for gaming, so this is a sound choice for Mad Catz. Backing up the Tegra 4 is 2Gb of RAM and 16Gb of storage which is expandable via a microSD card. It outputs video via a standard HDMI port at 1080p and supports the usual range of connection options including WiFi and Bluetooth.

Running Android 4.2.2 at launch, Mad Catz are providing a USB dongle to allow for Bluetooth L.E. support which is a major part of making the bundled controller work with extremely low latency. Indeed, the vowel-less C.T.R.L.R is a major selling point which makes the M.O.J.O. a viable classic games console.

The M.O.J.O. also has full Play Store access which is a massive plus allowing you to use it both as a games console but also as a media streamer and more connected to your TV. You can access the full range of the Google Play ecosystem from your TV.

Most interestingly, Mad Catz have said that the M.O.J.O. will be updated shortly after launch with the ability to stream PC games to your TV. This could be a killer application for this curious but quite funky looking piece of kit.

With all these interesting features comes the one downside which is the price. It is set to be on sale for £219.99 which in our opinion is a tad high. We will reserve judgement until a review unit comes our way - this could finally be an awesome Android based media streamer as well as a great little console. If you are interested, the M.O.J.O. will be available from December 18th.

Are you going to be picking one up?
