Actually, "2048" is the clone here; "Threes!" was released first (and is of far higher quality, due to the superb soundtrack, subtle animations and cute voices... and, well, it's THE ORIGINAL)... and then, as with Flappy Birds, along came the clones:

If you only care about "near enough" then "buy"(?) the clones, but if you care about supporting the developer of the original, high quality game with all the nuances and detail it brings, then you'll pay the mere pittance that is "Threes!". 

 

To put the price in context, it's roughly the same as half a pint of beer, a bag of chips or a single local bus fare - it's really not worth sweating over the irrelevancy of the mere £1.49, and helps the developer feed his/their family/families, and encourages growth in an industry crammed full of "me too" crappy effort apps. You get what you pay for, and if you pay nothing, expect not to get quite the same experience.

I stand corrected, the original author of the 2048 game created the game for free I did not realise he created it a month after the other game.
