It was a large event with a slightly strange presentation that emphasised how things are going to be simpler with the G3. LG have taken the circle from their logo and used it as a motif for their new phone with circles everywhere.The G3 builds on the success of the G2 and has many of the same virtues including super slim bezels, buttons on the back and a camera with OIS. All these are improved with even more of the front taken up with screen than before. The buttons are much improved with a nice texture to the volume controls and an easier to press power button though we lose the notification LED from the back. The camera now has OIS+ which includes stabilisation in all three planes.Talking of the camera, LG are employing a laser focussing system. Yes, the G3 shoots lasers out when you want to take a picture! It seemed really impressive and able to retain focus as you pan around quite quickly. The new camera software is a little simpler to use and there is a new full screen mode which removes most of the controls. To take a picture in this mode, you press the screen and it will focus and capture in one go. LG say the camera is capable of focussing in 0.276 seconds which is very very fast indeed.The G3 has the same size battery as the G2 but it is now removable which of course means the back is also now removable. Under the back there is a microSD card slot to supplement the 16 or 32gb of onboard storage.LG have improved the materials of the G3 quite substantially. Gone are the glossy plastics of the G2, replaced by plastics with a nice matt metallic finish. It is not metal. In the UK we are getting black, white and gold colours and the gold is especially nice.The biggest talking point of the night was of course the screen. It is the first 2K screen on sale in the UK and it is a stunner. The 5.5" panel is well contained in the curvy body of the G3 and the screen pops similarly to the way the G2's screen did. The bezels on the side seemed very slightly larger on the G3 reducing the overall impact of the screen very slightly, but it was very slight. On the showroom floor, it was hard to tell if the screen was better than a 1080p example but it certainly was a lovely screen.The G3 will be available in the UK from July 1st with pricing yet to be announced although our friends at Clove have the 16Gb model available for pre-order at £499.In the meantime check out our hands on below and I can only apologise for the focus issues that are prevalent in this video.What is your view of the G3?
