Think I'm noticing better battery life already, although it was really quite slow immediately after rebooting, now seems to have settled in more. I've just had notification from Motorola to say that they are preparing my phone for the update and asking me to ensure I have the Motorola Update Services app installed. Guest eLJay Posted March 7, 2015 Report Share Posted March 7, 2015 (edited) I had a similar notification saying it needed to prep my phone for a new update and I already have Motorola update installed. Unfortunately I was at a gallery exhibition opening and was on 3g and my phone rebooted before I had a chance to check it out. Hope that it did all it needed to do. The most significant thing I noticed was that, unlike previous 'new OS updates' you don't lose anything; all system settings, storage contents and downloaded apps are retained. There is no need to register on Google (and sync contacts, etc.., input WiFi details) or re-install apps from Play Store. After the install the visual appearance of the initial home screen is exactly the same, wallpaper, apps on home, everything is just the same. I haven't found any problems yet. Guest jazzuk777 Posted March 10, 2015 Report Share Posted March 10, 2015 Have to say my 2nd gen G seems to have slowed down with 5.0.2 and quite laggy - often seems to stop when loading Email inbox from the lock screen and require re-opening. Had bad lag on a few other occasions too, including with the camera which is really annoying when you want to capture the action! Now just stuck in boot, showing the Motorola textured blue logo with rippling water effects over the top. Boots showing the new lollopop "powered by Android" screen first of all, then goes through the colourful worlds. Then just sits in that mode. Left it 10 minutes in that state, then powercycled. Same outcome. What next??! Edit - I take that back - after leaving it for another 10 minutes it has now popped into the "Android is upgrading" process and is busy optimising my apps. So the moral is, it takes longer than the 15 minutes suggested (well, it did with mine anyway!), and just have patience! I thought I'd been sufficiently patient, obviously not! I'm still waiting for it to tell me it has the download. Just read the post about lag, mine was already laggy and now I'm wondering if I should bother with it or wait. Firstly I'm running ART as it stopped a lot of issues I was having in 4.4.4 plus I was already running google now as my launcher. I also cleared the apps cache. I did get a message that it needed to update Google play services which it didn't handle but after shutting it down and restarting it updated it after a reasonable wait. Guest MickJack Posted March 11, 2015 Report Share Posted March 11, 2015 (edited) Just updated original Gen 1 Tesco Moto G from kitkat to Lollipop 5.02 Took about 50 minutes including the download, install, update of apps & play, all seems good, still have everything as before (Nova launcher, bubbles wallpaper etc) just a bit snappier, but early days. Seemed to sit for a long time on the bootloader screen halfway, patience and a cupper :) Edit: I am finding the compass and star maps much improved, I use Field Compass, Google Star Map and Stellarium Mobile or should I say I can now use these apps without everything jumping around and glitching. I did have to do a factory reset after the update installed, as I was unable to switch mobile data on through any of the channels available (e.g. toggles or the settings menu). This was fixed with a factory reset and I installed all my usual apps again manually from the Play Store. On this clean install, I haven't noticed any particular performance improvements or degradation over KitKat either way. I have more storage space available, but that's probably more to do with not having any media on there yet, a few apps still to be installed, and the cache for apps like Facebook to be rebuilt. I think the handful of small gripes I have at present are more a question of getting used to the new OS; retraining the old muscle memory to swipe up at the lockscreen instead of horizontally; having to swipe down twice to access the toggles from the notification menu...that kind of thing. Also a couple of my apps behave very differently now (BBC News app and LinkedIn Pulse). I don't know whether that's because they are designed differently for Lollipop or just a coincidence that they happen to have been completely overhauled since I last updated them (probably less than a month ago). I am slowly getting around to setting it up the way I like it. Only time will tell whether there are any issues/improvements with things like battery life, random resets and that kind of thing. If you use a 2-fingered swip the toggles menu comes down with one action2. I've installed the excellent "notification toggle" app by j4velin which puts a toggle-bar on the bottom of the full notification menu, and which appears with a single swipe - This toggle-bar is customisable so you can add all the things you find most useful - wifi, torch, Bluetooth etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
