Just got my bill, and the £6.00 GPRS Promotion pack IS on there for MAY, as we hoped/suspected. Obviously we don't know how long it will carry on for, but it's nice to see it in writing that I've got a least one extra month ;) :) :D

Phone up Orange and ask them to stop the package :)Phone up Orange and ask them to stop the package ;)

You're right Mono - you'll have to tell them at least twice :)

Not quite sure what people were "suspecting". It was fact that the promotion would last until 30th April and stop then. Simon Desser, how do you know the promotion is on your bill for May when it's not the end of April yet? Must admit I only look at the bottom line figure so does it have an estimate for next month?

The information on the O website says that the SPV pack can be signed up for up until end of March and will run until the end of April, but I'm sure someone said that these dates has officially been extended by a month. So, sign up for the promotion is due to end at the end of this month, but the promotion itself is set to run until the end of May, so bills will include billing for the GPRS pack from (say) 28th April -> 27th May, etc...

It's only when people whose billing period runs from 1st May (or later) start getting their bills that anyone can actually say that the promotion is continuing further!

Maybe I've mis-interpretated the situation, but my bill shows the SPV promotional pack from 17th April - 16th May @ £5.11 + Vat.

I (perhaps wrongly) assumed that if it was ending on 30th April, as originally stated, then I would be billed from 17th April - 31st May and charged an amount pro-rata accordingly?

I would expect the 17th May to 31st May portion to appear on your bill for that period (i.e. your next one) and for you to only be be charged the pro-rata amount as you say.

Certainly, when I got my SPV, I was charged for something like two days of SPV promo pack before my next billing cycle had started (i.e. I got my SPV 2 days before my normal billing date!) So my bill showed promo pack charges from 13 Dec to 15 Dec and then 16 Dec to 15 Jan (or something like that)

Not saying it isn't so, and like I said I rarely look at the details for a bill, but does the bill charge up front or in arrears? It looks like it's a month up front from what you're saying. Must admit I thought it was in arrears (i.e. you make your calls then you pay for them, similarly with the line rental and promotion packs, you use it then pay).

Simon, if it is like you say then it could indeed be that the promotion has been extended. Nice of Orange to tell people. Then again they were running adverts in the cinema saying free MMS when the promotion had run out 4 days earlier.

SirGaz; no part your pay line rental etc up front and calls/txt in arrears - you really should read your bill more carefully  O could be overcharging you or anything

(and yes i regularly find errors in my bill ;))

I spoke to Orange CS this morning, because I was told catagorically by Orange staff when buying the phone, that the GPRS bundle would be replaced by something of 'equal or better value'.

The CS staff know nothing about the promotion except that it is due to end on April 30th, and they have not been told of any replacement.

Since the current GPRS bundles are $2 for 1 MB, $4 for 2MB, $8 for 4MB etc - if there is no replacement bundle offered, I intend to cancel my GPRS (which would really p*ss me off!) and write a very strong letter to Orange CS about their staff trying to defraud me initially with unfounded promises!

Infact, I may well use it as a reason to cancel my contract with Orange, and go to O2 or something - coz if staff make a promise like that which is not fulfilled, then they have broken terms of contract, and I am within my rights to terminate it.

I certainly wasn't :?

I was told that at the end of the promotion i would be offered a GPRS bundle based on my average GPRS usage over the promotional period; which to be honest is the way i think they'll do it and the fairest way (you don't have to accept the bundle they offer either, you'll have the option to choose any other GPRS bundle)

OK, so the calls are in arrears and the line retal up front.

So as an aside, Orange (and I assume all the other operators) must offer the first month line retal free as I didn't pay for a month when I bought the phone and the first bill wasn't for 2 months line rental. I know when you buy a phone it's not an issue as the line rental can be absorbed within the cost of the phone, but what about the free phones. Makes the deal that little bit extra.

And as for looking at the bills, I always look at the bottom line figure and as I rarely use the thing to make calls it's easy to spot mistakes. Usually it's within £3 of the line retal (yes I use it that little).

I think I'll be stopping the GPRS as well, can't afford some of the tariffs they are banding around. Might sign up to the 1/2Mb a month one just in case though.

Richie M -

I agree - they shouldn't have told me that!! Especially if it's not going to happen!

It sounds from the comments in the forum that lots of people were told various different things! Personally, I think that the cost of GPRS is prohibitively large (even the current promotion pack is extortionate $6 for 'unlimited access' which actually is limited to 10MB per month!), and if O don't do something good, then I would like to see a large no. of pople just stop using it. It would p*ss me off, but I'm not prepared to be blatently ripped off, as orange seem so keen to do!

Surely they are making good money from the GPRS swindle, so if we all tell them to stick it - they'll have to do something!

Long live the revolution!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW Richie - I'm liking your new avatar!!

Cheers.

Simon.

That is v.misleading, definately shouldn't have told you that. Was it a sales person in a shop? Did you get the sales person name? If not I fear you won't have a leg to stand on if they want to dig their heels in about it. Your word against whoever it was.

Cheers drblow, it's not just the Avatar tho ;)

I seriously doubt tho that i'll continue with a GPRS after the promotion pack, as i just don't use it enough to justify the cost (i think tho that they do a PAYG system on GPRS so i'll probably do that). One thing that really gets me tho is that Orange Update and Orange Backup use GPRS so much for "free" services

I've been told by Orange that the promotion will continue until the June billing date, and I'll then be changed onto a £4 a month "bundle"

Not sure how many mb I get for my £4 though. Anybody know? :?:

My bill came yesterday and I'd used 57meg. I may need to cut back

This is what I understood.

*The purchase of the SPV phone is subject to connection to the SPV promotional pack providing 10MB web browsing a month costing £6 per month on top of your existing Service Plan.

At the end of the promotional period you will automatically be changed onto an equal or lower priced GPRS bundle with a megabyte cap.

I was just looking at this page at Orange.
