Hi there!

I've had my smartphone for 3 weeks now and I must say its a love hate relationship. I find it a very good product but find it too slow and limiting especially for wireless access on the web.

I might be off topic here but anyone here has first hand experience with other smartphones? Palm has the Tungsten C which is also running under Pocket 2002. The Treo series and the Siemen SX-45.

Another concern is if it is better to have a real PDA (Compaq, Palm, Asus, etc.) and just use the bluetooth of a regular cellphone to connect to the net rather than have a hybrid do it all like the Tanager?

Hope to have some brainstorming here.

@ BizMaster: First of all the Palm does NOT run on Pocket PC 2002, The Tungsten C is a Palm product and will never run any Microsoft OS in it.  The Treo also runs on Palm OS.  The SX-45 is a bit dated... It isn't even a Pocket PC Phone Edition.

The Smartphone is what it is... primarily a phone (although it performs more like a PC).  A Pocket PC Phone Edition device such as the O2 XDA/Qtek 1010/Siemens SX-56 etc are primarily a PDA with phone functions.

Don't be disappointed with the slowness of the GPRS browsing of the SMART Amazing Phone.  All our telcos seem to have slow connections.

The Smartphone 2002 devices are not designed to replace the PDA... It does work well along side the Pocket PC though.

Palm is NOT under a POCKETPC 2002 OS...it uses the Palm OS, not the Windows CE.

IMHO, it is better o browse the net using a PocketPC and cellphone (like my T68i) combo via bluetooth connection.....or using a PocketPC Phone Edition such as the Qtek/ O2 XDA..... because it has wider/bigger screen, and it uses touchscreen/stylus, and you can have multiple IE window and browse many sites at the same time.

Only disadvantage is that its a bit bulkier and you have to use two gadgets (unless using the Qtek/O2) to do the task.

My mistake. It should have been "TUNGSTEN W", not the "C". The "W" runs under the Microsoft OS which Globe is now offerring for P30,000 plus.

The Treo series are Palm OS based both offered by Globe and Sun.

Anyways, I guess the bottomline is there are other smartphones available in the market besides the SAP. What I want to find-out is if these other hybrids are worth a second look based on other people's experience with them.

Also, I kind of like the new HP iPAQ h5450 that has the biometric finger print, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and all the works for the same price as the Tungsten W.

Another booboo! Maloko talaga ang mga taga-Globe. Sila ang nagsabi sa akin na kung gusto ko daw ng Microsoft OS, yung Tungsten W daw ang available. But after your comment na Palm OS based ang W, I double checked their website and true enough, Palm OS nga pala talaga!

hehe all Palm PDAs...Tungsten W, Tungsten C, and Treo run on Palm OS...NEVER on Windows OS  

ONLY POCKETPCs run on Windows CE os

BTW, if Smart have the Smartphone, then Globe also has a Windows-based phone...its the Qtek.

Its actually a PocketPC Phone Edition. But its a great device too. Just a bit more expensive but reasonable...

yup. the QTek unit is actually identical to the O2 XDA available at avsurfer in Power Plant Rockwell.

I think they're selling it for 36k. Yoiks!

I have a Smart amazing phone and also a Palm Zire 71. Different devices for different uses...

Of course there are integrated units like the p800 and the O2. but i usually read ebooks in bed, then doze off to sleep.

so i would prefer to never have a PDA with a radio antenna as i'd like to minimize brain exposure to radiowaves  :wink:
