You need a proxy for WAP and also to set IE to auto. There's another set of US T-mobile GPRS settings in lower half of page2 which should be everything you need. Others have used it with success. I dont have the SPV anymore so I can't check but you could try changing your IP from 050 to 50 at the end. Probably doesn't make a difference but I think I remember having just the 50. I deleted all the SMART settings and went in fresh to enter the t-mobile settings. but now how do i add back in the MMS settings, there seems no way to add that setup screen back after i have deleted it. (I'm more interested in getting GPRS working though). I have set IE to automatic so i cannot figure out what i a missing. whenever i try to connect to IE, it says "dailing" at the top left of the screen; should it be doing that. Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 14, 2003 Report Share Posted June 14, 2003 I don't know if the SAMRT phone has the same MMS setup screen as the SPV but there is an icon in the programs listing called MMS Setup. It may not be on the SMART phone so someone else may need to conform. As far as it saying DAILING....do you have a connection under CSD connections? If so this is your dial-up coinnection and needs to be configured as well per the settings listed on this site. When you first go into data connections make sure you are connecting thru your GPRS settings (names T-Mobile GPRS or something like that) and not the CSD settings. GPRS should point to the T-Mobile GPRS settings WAP should point to the WAP settings. I dont have the phone anymore but hopefully someone could give you the correct verbage. Keep trying...the T-Mobile settings work great here on the east coast and probably everywhere else. Try this to test each GPRS connection seperately 1 Create proxy connection for WAP. Description : T-Zones WAP Proxy The Internet, WAP Network, 216.155.165.50, WAP 2 Create GPRS connections for T-Zones WAP Description: T-Zones WAP The Internet, wap.voicestream.com 3 Create GPRS conenction for internet Description: T-Zones GPRS The Internet, internet2.voicestream.com 4 Make the following data connections Internet connection= T-Zones GPRS (uses HTTP for HTML & WML pages) WAP connection = T-Zones WAP (uses WSP for WML pages) Check connections (use menu-refresh to re-load page if needed) 5 Int.Explorer - de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=The Internet. 6 Successfully access http://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to confirm Type=WML and protocol=HTTP 7 Int.Explorer- de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=WAP Network 8 Successfully access wsp://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to confirm Type=WML and protocol=WSP 9 If both connections are successfull then goto Int.Explorer - tick 'auto detect settings' to allow either protocol to be used automatically. Treat your phone as if it were a PocketPC not a Motorola mobile. (at least I couldn't get to t-zones, I could be wrong). It will either use the WAP APN or a seperate APN like 'mms'. In either case you want to create a new GPRS connection for MMS and point it to the MMS software (MMS connection) which will allow you to receive as well. Associating the MMS setup data to the GPRS WAP connection will give the right APN for transmitting but the receive will be incorrectly connected to WAP software (the WAP connection). I can connect to T-zones using wsp://www.t-zones.co.uk You have to register though to use some services like e-mail. I think with voicestream WAP they want you to register too. More importantly Cornaglian said I dont have the SPV anymore so I can't check :shock: :shock: What happened ? You're a MoDaCo + member now so you can't NOT have an SPV - its unthinkable. I get sms messages. i am in the NY metro area. i just cannot imagine what i am doing wrong. i am going to deltee all the entries in the 'data connection' and start from scratch once again. question - why do some of the US t mobile settings show an entry in the DNS while another has them all as 0.0.0.0? Guest supersha Posted June 14, 2003 Report Share Posted June 14, 2003 Ok - Martin, i put your settings in exactly after deleting all the previous entries. still nothing. i get a big 'ERROR. unabale to connect. verify network coverage and try again.' it's really bumming me out. i don't understnd why my spvx says at the top left 'dialing'. is it trying to dial out. the 'g' on the top right flashes while doing so, but in the end i get the error message. sha ok - how about this. i can get on to wsp://wap.smart.com.ph/ (and i have deleted all the smart settings, only the t-mobile settings are on my spvx but nothing else!!!what am i doing wrong????? ok next step- i got martin's wsp google site to work. so why can i not get hhtml working. It may be that you need the apn internet2.voicestream.com activated by T-mobile. ok - how about this. i can get on to wsp://wap.smart.com.ph/ Are you saying that you CAN connect to this WAP site using WSP://. Can you connect other WAP sites using WSP ? I think these are the DNS addresses you are talking about. I think for NY you can use 216.155.175.170, 216.155.175.171. Guest martin Posted June 14, 2003 Report Share Posted June 14, 2003 I forgot to say that to see dialling is normal although you are right to question it because you don't actually dial into the GPRS network. The user simply does a GPRS attach to the serving gateway node and establishes a logical connection. The dialling refers to an IP conection being made to the internet. You mentioned that you are coming from a motorola phone which wouldn't have use for GPRS unless you were using it like a modem. If not, you can sign-up for UNLIMITED GPRS for $19.99 from T-Mobile. WSP (wireless session protocol) is part of WAP and is a protocol used for the access of WML pages only. You have the WAP APN activated bt T-mobile which isn't surprising as everyone is given it (you'll get WAP given by default on any network). The APN for internet software which gives access to HTML pages is a bit different and you may have to ask T-mobile to activate this service seperately. They will call it something like internet or web surfing. Internet and WAP are two different software applications that process different pages being HTML and WML. Try changing the DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 99.99.99.99 and it will probably still work because the networks will more than likely create a fixed DNS address at the SGSN so your DNS settings in the phone won't actually do anything.
