Can any one help me with this? i feel like a dunce!!!

basically i want to change my homescreen to the way described, having smaller customised links on my homescreen. also i want to get rid of the web links to news/gallerysport/downloads (as is on the orange layout 1) i also would like it to show the date as well as the time on my homescreen.

i guess to start with i need to make my own version of that plugin.. i know what to put in it to get my shortcuts up but what do i rename the text file to and where should i put it?

      :?:

hehe i like having gadgets that require some brainpower!!

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

Homescreens are XML files that reference plugins in their code.
Other than the built in homescreens, custom layouts need to be placed in your IPSMApplication DataHome directory on your phone.

The built in homescreens are located in your Windows directory of your phone. An example would be "ukmspim.home.xml"

Copy these files to your desktop as examples and edit them in notepad or a xml/html editing program.

There are many examples of homescreens on this site, especially in the customization section. Try to find one that's close to your needs and work from there. Editing existing homescreens is a great way to learn how to make your own.

Oh...and welcome to the site! :)

Hi Chris. I am no programmer - but I too want to change the 4 home profile links that have been provided by Orange Layout 2. So is there any special program I need to change those 4 links only and were exactly do I go to change them

I was having some real difficulties getting the MRU plugin provided by AT&T for the MPx200 to show icons/shortcuts that I was interested in.

I tried to re-code as shown above and I also tried the registry tweak listed elsewhere but I was never able to get it to work. I searched the registry and found an alternate location which seems to have the desired effect:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAT&TPluginFavorites

[Value]: Order

As with anything, proceed at your own risk.

As shown in the registry tweaks section, edit it to your desired shortcuts.

It has been working fine for me for the past day, and I've rebooted and sync'ed a few times just to check it.

Hope that helps.
Ron.

Ok I'm a bit new to this all - even though I've had my SPV for almost a year - how do u enter these plug-ins? U provided all the codes, but I have no idea where or how to put them in, in order to use them!
Thanks
Sameer

Hello,

I am a definately new to this area so some of this makes sense and some does not. I also want to thank everyone that has contributed to putting together this info.  I have a few questions regarding the code posted by Chris B.

First, each plugin begins with the word "plugin". Is this like defining a function that will be referenced in the .XML file? If so, each different plugin would have to be named differently.  As for the code, do you put it  directly into the XML file? If so, does it matter where in the XML file you put the plugin code segment?

Second, If the new homepage is located in the /IPSM/Application Data/Home directory and not the /Windows directory how does the phone know to use the file I created rather than the original one for the homepage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What is the 'Cell Broadcast/SIM Toolkit Plug-In" supposed to do? I was hoping it would provide the cell location information that I've noticed other phones can pick up. However, I added it to my home screen, and nothing appears. Can someone enlighten me?

Bump, what that guy ^ said.

Also, does anyone have any details on how the screen scrolling works in home screens? I've picked apart a couple and couldn't grasp the basic mechanism thru all the crud that was happening simultaneously.

TIA

Nik

That's what it's supposed to do- sometimes it will show the dialling code, sometimes it will tell you the name of the area you're in, sometimes it can even tell you the street name. However, it's completely dependant on the country/network you're on, and not many networks seem to support it. (Orange are amongst those who don't. )

Basically, if all the plugins come to a total height of more than 200 pixels, then it won't all fit on the homescreen, and it will scroll if you go down past the bottom. (As far as I can figure out, the plugin at the top of the screen will always be shown in full, so that dictates how much it will scroll at a time.) The background image won't scroll though, as it's just a fixed background image, but you can play around with this by setting a different background image when certain plugins are selected- however, these will only be the size of the plugin itself.

If you're over 18    then this is a good one to pick apart to figure out the workings of scrolling home screens...

My (slightly out of date!) guide to the MPx200 (including customising the homescreen and Media Player):

When this thread was first posted was about two years ago, consequently some of the initial information is now out of date.

Does anyone have an updated set of settings for Windows Media Encoder? I don't appear to have any of the ones that are listed here in my WME, ie, Audio Codec version is not present etc.
Edit: that is, if there's a better set than in the FAQ section.

Also I can't seem to get advanced-mediaplayer.zip working. When I user Smart Excplorer to unzip the file and copy the resulting files into Windows I get an error saying I can't write the s.kn to that directory.
Am I missing something?

TIA

Nik

Hi,

The message-plugin doesn't display on my Orange SPV (Netherlands). If you leave out the part wich should display VMail it only displays E-Mail and SMS. If you want the plugin to display E-Mail, SMS and MMS you should change the id of the plugin into :

<plugin clsid="{FC0658FA-388E-45d3-9C23-957496F4775B}">

But still leave out the part <unreadVMail/>.

Hi there

Nice graphics. I downloaded the media player stuff and when I tried copying into the windows directory in my phone, as per the readme intructions, my windows explorer alerted that the storage is insufficient or its a read only file or something.... like its protected. I am extremely sure that there is room there...

Any ideas what is happening? Please help, cheers!
