Hi,

(Great forum by the way. Just found it doing a Google search).

Anyway, this may be a stupid question, but I can't figure it out! I'm trying to set up my SPV to pick up my POP3 e-mail. However, it comes up with the following error - "You are currently Syncing your mail with ActiveSync. Disable this from the desktop bla bla..."

So, I connected my mobile to my PC (which syncs fine) and disabled the e-mail syncing from within ActiveSync on the PC. However, this message still appears. If I go into ActiveSync Options on the SPV, the email syncing is disabled there. In fact, you can't enable it from there anyway (can't tick the box).

With all this done, this error message still appears. Can anyone give me an idea of what I can do to get around this? Have I missed something?

Also, on an aside (another stupid question). Both my internet and WAP settings are set to Orange GPRS on the phone, but the mobile still 'dials' before it connects, is this correct? There is a 'G' on the bar at the top of the screen, so I assume it's okay. But I've never used GPRS before and thought it was an 'always on connection' and didn't need to dial up. Just want to make sure it's not connecting using normal GSM. Web sites appear fairly quick though, so I assume it's okay, but just want to make sure!

Firstly, thanks, glad you like the forum!

I too encountered the e-mail problem you mentioned.

I simply disabled E-Mail Sync in Activesync on my PC, DID A SYNC OF EVERYTHING ELSE, then I could set up my POP3 OK.

Yes, the SPV does say 'DIALLING' to connect to the GPRS connection. This is because, in order to connect via the GPRS connection, the OS has a normal DUN connection to a special control code. So as far as it is concerned, it IS dialling!

Just tried what you suggested, however, it still comes up with the same error. Both phone and PC were already 'in sync', so as a test I changed a contact on the PC and synced again (just to see if this would jog it somewhat!). This didn't work either. Still comes up with the same error. Is there anything else I can look at do you think?

I'll try again just to make sure. I'm just wondering if it's got 'stuck' somehow. I'm just wondering if I could delete everything on the SPV (contacts, calender, etc) and resync as if from scratch. Wonder if this would work?

At least I know the GPRS is working okay!

I would probably try the following, in the following order:

1) Delete the partnership in Activesync on the PC, then retry, then recreate partnership

2) Delete the partnership in Activesync, hard reset the SPV, then retry

3) PANIC! :wink:

Well point (1) didn't work, so I took the plunge and did a hard reset (2).

This worked!

Was going to go to point (3) as the SPV took a hell of a long time booting up after the reset (thought I'd buggered it!). But it did boot up okay. No error message this time and e-mail works fine.

By the way, can you only set up one POP3 on this? Just wondering...

Yeah, only 1 POP3 at the moment, which really sucks. No HoTMaiL either, which is ridiculous!

I'm thinking about offering [email protected] e-mail addresses free from this site, where when you pick up the account, it checks any number of associated POP mailboxes free.

I'll let the site get established for a while first tho, see how many members we get, and how active the site is!
