Guest Paul [MVP]
Hey guys! I've been given permission by Orange to let you know that the moderators and I are currently carrying out testing of a new update for the UK. The update, to be branded 1.6, has no firm release date yet, but will probably be within a few weeks. It has the same features that are being seen in, for example, QTek 1.5, but with the very latest radio stack and other bits n bobs. We HAVE noticed battery improvements over e100 1.5 :) The phone is that little bit more responsive as with every update, the SMS counter WORKS (woohoo!), so all in all, good stuff... Guest Mr_Protozoa
Huzza! And about time too!
Guest Crispy
This is really getting frustating! ... Why "secret" testing??? ... Are they afraid that we might ruin out phones? Since when did they start caring about that? ... Or is just fun with all that secrecy? :? On the other hand I think its a very good to let the mods/admin here test, if anyone! They most be the most competent people on the entire internet! PS: They did'n say anything about the Danish update, did they? It must in beta stages too now. Guest blewer
Thanks for the update Paul, sounds promising.
Guest Vector
So this update is newer than the version that is currently on the E100 right ?
Guest Paul [MVP]
Correct, newer than the e100. It's either we get to play with it, and can give you a little info, or you just wait until it is signed off and it arrives. Which would you prefer? We don't have a huge amount of feedback into the process, but if there were any new huge glaring bugs, I think we'd find em :) P
Guest amo
I think the "secrecy" thing is ridiculous, its not as if its a matter of national security or anything, its _Just_ a phone update. why not release a beta available saying orange will not be held responsible blah blah, care invalid
Guest Paul [MVP]
It's not as simple as that amo. The release has to be signed off by various different people (as i'm sure you understand). Normally this process is behind the scenes, O have been kind enough to get us involved. If they did release a beta and it killed some phones, it (a) doesn't make them look good, and (:) people would claim on care anyway! P
Guest morpheus2702
Good to know something is on the way and that the Orange bods have recognised the battery problem... but not going to hold my breath waiting for it, like the SPV update that was due in July :? Guest Vector
Whey not just stop complaining and be thankful that Paul and Orange have been kind enough to give us this nice little piece of info :)
Guest amo
Sorry David...Just my opinion and Im entitled to it. The fact that Orange can't tell us themselves their working on an update is ridiculous, I simply dont understand why there is such a need for secrecy. (And personally - im not too fussed about or in great need of an update)
Guest Simon Desser
:) Could a "Newshound" be classed as a Moderator in exceptional cicumstances Paul?
Guest Crispy
Whey not just stop complaining and be thankful that Paul and Orange have been kind enough to give us this nice little piece of info :) I guess you're right! ... Orange could do much worse! ... Im just p*ssed that I don't have it
Guest Paul [MVP]
NO Simon! ;-) Isn't it 'a given' that Orange are working on updates amo? P
Guest Simon Desser
"]NO Simon! ;-)P Worth a try  Anyway, in my opinion, Orange will probably try and release the update just before the MoDaCo meet. That way the Orange representatives who are present, will avoid an ear bashing from MoDaCo members demanding SMS counters etc. etc :) Didn't they make the OTA unlocking Developer's site available just before the last meeting, which softened everyone up, and avoided any arrests at the meet :?: :o
Guest Palindrome
I'm glad that Orange have had the good sense to include Paul and the Mods in their beta testing contingent. That way we know that us forum members are going to be represented and our needs and wishes will be heard.
Guest awarner [MVP]
And they do listen and ask questions, The positive side of this is we have more chance of hearing of any official Orange updates on this site before the rest of the net. Also there is a chance we could kill our phones and yes I'm glutton for punishment  but I would not wish a dead phone on anyone else. Guest Gorskar
So can I try it then? I can understand why you wouldn't want riff raff like Simon  to try it, but I'm bonafide :)
Guest Pagemakers
Has the GPRS sticking issue is fixed, else you may as well throw the thing in the bin. How about T9? Are the saved words remembered for more than a week? Does the inbox have a delete all function? Is there an alarm icon on the today screen? Oh, let me guess.....errr dunno, no, no, no. Whoopeee (this is not a dig at Paul, just a kick in the nuts for all those who have been responsible for the general smartphone update fiasco). How long have we been moaning about the SAME bloody issues? A week?, a couple of months?, no, nearly a year! It's not rocket science to make these things work, and if it is they are using the wrong scientists!
Guest
Glad to hear that you guys are in the testing loop. I see it as meaning that problems raised here will get a look-in. Nice one, and look forward to hearing how you get on.

Guest Richie M
Strange, why is everyone making such a fuss :? Personally, i'm glad the big O have decided to include the guys in the Beta. as for the "secret" part people are moaning about, most software is Beta'd in secret and most Beta testers have to sign a non-disclosure agreement :? so whats the fuss? Did you think O were just gonna release an update untested? Everyone should be glad knowing that an update is coming soon and it has been tested by people we know and trust :)
Guest Rob.P
Best bit of news I have read on the site for ages, quality stuff and good job Paul, says a lot about you and the moderators that you have been pulled into the loop for the updates, good for us as well cause we can now get reliable info on how the update is and not just hearsay.
Guest Paul [MVP]
I know it's not what you want to hear, but I tell it like it is, the 'DIALLING' problem is NOT fixed in the update I have at least. I HAVE however raised it with Orange at the highest level, and hope to be able to post an official response soon... P
Guest Pagemakers
Can you give us a simple list of what is new and what is fixed? Without sounding too pessimistic I bet the list is not very long.
