Guest rockdoc Posted August 28, 2003 Report Share Posted August 28, 2003 noticed yesterday that I have a couple of small scratches on the screen of my mio 8380. Just figured out what caused them I think. The four corners of the screen half of the clamshell have wee rubber stoppers inserted in holes that presumably are there to lift the "lid" off the phone slighty. I think they are recessed too much. This AM I tried the phone in an old carrying case I had for my SE 68m which was a tight fit. When I took the phone out there were several smudges on the screen that correspond to positions of keys on the phone. I guess the keys pick up some grit from fingers and that is transferred. Also I noticed that two of the rubber stoppers had a small piece cutout of them....aha the screen must move ever so slightly in a lateral fashion. If two much pressure is put on it and it slips sideways.....voila...scratch city!! I am now contemplating cutting up an old writeright screen protector and seeing if it doesn't hurt the screen visibility. Anyways word of caution....don't use tight carrying cases. Had the phone for two weeks. What I want is some studs to place on the backside so that I can place the phone on any surface without it getting scratched. Having looked at the SPV screen I don't think the curvature is too much to create a huge problem. The writerights are fairly cheap so it probably is worth a go.
