How to remove the screen cover and make your SAP unique

I found an easy way to remove the screen cover of the SAP (HTC Tanager);

1) Insert a plastic knife or just your fingernail into the gap between the infrared window and the top cover (Figure 1) lift it up very carefully, don't force it or you may break it, the cover is held down by doublesided adhesive tape.

2) Carefully slide the plastic knife or your fingernail around the sides to detach the cover from the doublesided adhesive tape that is holding it (Figure 2) again be very carefull.

3) Now you have the separated cover (Figure 3 and 4) now to think of what to do with it, use your imagination...sandpaper it and paint it any color you like and best of all the carrier logo is gone ;)

4) You may also lift up the screen cover (Figure 5) just in case after long use in dusty conditions some dust particles get inside to clean the screen :wink:

I beilieve this should not void your warranty as the seals will still be intact :)

Now to think of what color to paint my screen cover, any suggestions?

ngeks. anyway, if you guys really want to paint it, here's my suggestion:

1. clean and sand the part with a very fine sandpaper.

2. buy a polyurethane primer. available at workshop, etc. it's colored gray and polykote ata brand or something. apply a thin coat of primer and let dry.

3. go to banawe or some other car paint center and choose a color you want basta polyurethane. Have them "load" the paint into one of those aerosol canisters called "DO-IT". DO-IT is a "blank" aerosol canister usually used for touching up cars' paintjobs. You can load it up with whatever paint color you want.

tada! good luck!

you could also paint the battery to whatever color you painted the front screen frame so that they'll match. don't forgot to prime the surface first.

My suggestion is to paint them Vespa yellow. hehe....

Thanks for the advise 'grifter', you are right should use polyurethane paint as laquer may not last long :)

Vespa yellow.....seems to be a great color, I may try it and your suggestion to also paint the battery is cool :wink:

I will post the picture here after I paint my phone ;)

now that the screen cover is off,is there anything that you/we can do to stiffen the left/right soft keys?i mean, something to reinforce them with, para hindi na lumubog.

Unfortunately no, what I was able to do was just remove the screen cover, the right/left soft key is only accesible when you open up the case which will void your warranty.

You can bring your phone to Brightpoint to have the softkey repaired.

@spv_dman

well, you just have to be firm with brightpoint that you did not open your phone and you just painted the screen cover while it is still attached to your phone.

I don't think you will void your warranty doing it, kasi hindi naman nating na break ang seal ng Smart and also hindi naman natin binuksan ang unit para galawin, we only open the screen cover frame, don't lift up the screen lens na para you won't be itroducing any dust or whatever to the LCD .... Iam now painting my frame and will be posting it within the day pag tapos na :)

tnx pre! cguro naman it won't void the warranty kasi it was open naman from the top and not from the bottom were the warranty stickers are... hehehe! ;) post your work after painting ha! i'll also post mine if i make up my mind and paint my SAP.

Iba naman siguro ang pag-open line kasi ginalaw mo na ng software, anyway just in case you can always borrow an original screen frame and replace your painted one when you need to send it for waranty claim :)

Anyone from Smart or Brightpoint listening in please comment.
