I am going to try the ROM update on my E100 and hope it works. Apparently its got a built in file explorer plus extras that are on the actual rom!!!! Fingers Crossed............ Guest nixy Posted August 29, 2003 Report Share Posted August 29, 2003 Its 1am and I have just finished installing the i-mate rom update and its fine. There is no extra software on it which is a shame. I had been told there many be sp,e kind of file explorer but there isnt. T9 is in UK english which is great. It would be great if I have found what so many other users have been looking for whilst we all wait for the orange update. But I wont hold my breath. I hope the resident experts Monolithix or Paul MVP can do their stuff and verify exactly how valid this update is as I am not too hot on technical issues. I just like tweaking my spv ect. Guest nixy Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 Its the next morning now and having just played with the E100 for most of the night since the rom update only 1 bar has gone down in 5 hours. I have made a point of using as must battery as I could. I have played several rom games on snes emu, used iMov messanger and made two 5 (aprox) min calls. 18 text sms messagers. (I set the B/Light timeout off for testing) My menus are faster and I've seen a vast improvment in overall usability. The Speed at which programs start is faster than that of my Eurotel rom exploits too. Previosly I found I had to wait a while for iMov and for the spv system settings to load up.But iMov is near instant and settings are certainly quicker to load. I havent noticed much difference in the startup of my E100 but it has not made it any worse for sure. The dreaded "clunk" is gone from my sms contact selection although I need to try it a few times to be sure. BTW: NO FIXED ROM SETTINGS SUCH AS OPERATOR GPRS OR MMS ARE SETUP AFTER THE ROM UPDATE (or company/operator logo(s) This is a welcome result as I simply needed to input the orange settings and I was done. And just to be sure: I may use any unlocked (and decertified) Update for Tanager Smartphones (which is same as QTek 7070 or E100) with any Tanager Smartphone from any Network Provider? Guest nixy Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 I have not tested the sim unlock yet myself but on the website where the software rom came from it does state that it is unlocked from both sim and applications I will say that I believe yes is the answer though because there is no settings placed onto the phone after updating which would explain why its likely. The only logo I have now is the refreshingly different i-Mate logo on startup. the only applications unfortunately are IA video and camera software on rom. Games remain defualted to MS Solitaire and although I was originally told from my friend with an i-Mate there would be a file explorer preinstalled on rom......."there isn't!" All in all it is nearest to next best thing and best update I have personally updated to. I am on the Orange network in England UK so for me and others like me this update is great as the T9 is untouched after updating which has been a real headache for many of us. I think you will have to try it out regarding your question about language. The rom is "100%" decerted and DOES NOT need unlocking to use any software. HopE this has been of some help. regards..... I AM NOT AN EXPERT ALL I WILL SAY THOUGH IS THAT I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ROM UPDATE AND HAVE INSTALLED IT ON MY E100 TANAGER ON ORANGE NETWORK. My SPV has remained SIM unlocked and de-certified out of the box. It also has IA Album in-ROM. It does have support for the German language and locale. Yes you can install an Tanager-based update on the SPV or Tanager, officially you shouldn't as each one is tweaked speciifcally for the networks they are supposed to run on. Guest nixy Posted August 30, 2003 Report Share Posted August 30, 2003 If you have problems updating please seek advice from MoDaCo main Help and Advice forum as there are lots of users who know a lot about what to do and whether updating is nesseccary for which version fo rom you are using. I was unaware that any spv came preinstalled with rom 1.50 but I am not well up to date myself so dont want to give out advice wrongly. I would sugest you leave message for one of the regulars such as Monolithix or the boss man Paul MVP who will know what to do in which situation. The I-Mate looks good, but i'd wait for Orange UK 1.6 to be honest, again, officially you shouldn't install updates from other operators on your phones. However due to the nature of HTC's updaters there is nothing to stop you doing so.... Anyway, I-Mate is good, the Orange will be better. I'd hold out personally :) (NB: for those having invalid ID issues, you need to run update from the tri-colour Canary (bootloader) screen, press and hold record then power on, press any key that isn't action, whack into the cradle and run the update). You only need to downgrade the bootloader if you intend to SIM unlock the phone. If you have already done this then there is no reason to downgrade. Everything seems to run a bit smoother and the battery life is IMMEASURABLY superior. So until 1.6 appears :roll: I heartily recommend the update. Guest nixy Posted September 1, 2003 Report Share Posted September 1, 2003 well.......its a bit later on now...........the update has been on my phone for long enough for me to say that I am chuffed. The battery life really is noticably better than the previous rom incarnation (Eurosmell...with the nasty boot logo) I have installed several progies as well as been out and about....not a single problem to date. Programs definately start that reasuringly faster and steadier than before. Not that its turned it into a super computer all of a sudden, but it IS better. btw...really looking forward to the general release orange 1.6 image. Its long overdue if u ask me. But I imagine its gotta go through some serious testing before it'll have an Orange seal of approval on it and be available.
