Help! Sorry, super offtopic. Don't know where I can ask for help.

For some reason I can't access any search engines... Google.com, Ask.com, Search.msn.com, etc. I think it started when I clicked an ad for INFO.COM. Just so you know, info.com is a search engine, searching through search engines. Gets? Anyway, that's the only search engine I can access now. I think there's some sort of spyware with info.com's ad, but it can't be detected by adaware... Or it's probly something else. And I want my google back...!!!!!

i bet she's using a PC man...

open your task manager... look for a suspicious program in there and end that applications process off.

you may try other spyware detection engines like spycop. better yet update your adaware lookup file and run an anti virus software.

try going to internet options> programs> reset web settings on your IE browser.

remember the settings you have before doing this, it'll bring it back to its dfault settings.

@sweetyls

if youre using IE6, i think its default settings are still on high security. Some cookies are not allowed. when you enter the google.com address what happens? as in no page is downloaded?

@runabout

i already flushed my cookies and history and temp files etc., pero wala pa rin.

@sonborj

i get redirected to a page saying "There is no website configured at this address". The page is maintained by cPanel.

feeling ko kung sa SAP "when all things fail, do a Hard Reset!" ako ngayon, "when all things fail, SYSTEM RESTORE!" haha.

Try to check the windows "hosts" file under:

C:WINNTsystem32driversetc

Baka naglagay ng DNS entries for yahoo, etc. Alisin mo lahat ng entries pertaining to the search engines you can't access.

***Edit* I forgot to mention. The path above pertains to WINNT, WIN2K and WINXP OS. For WIN95 and 98, if I'm not mistaken, the path is:

C:Windowssystem32driversetc

For win9x, the hosts file is located in

%systemdrive%%windir% (usually this is C:WINDOWS)

127.0.0.1 localhost is the default entry

how about personal firewalls? Zonealarm, norton? have you checked it?

did you try pinging google or other search engines?

if you can ping them its probable na ang browser mo ang me problema

go to the command prompt.

(that's STart>Programs> Accesories>Command Prompt)

then type:

ping www.google.com

then wait.... you should see a bunch of numbers... if you see numbers then it means that you can reach google, and that the problem is within your browser. If you see that there is a "request timed out" or some other message then it is probable that your browser is not screwed and that the problem is somewhere else.

try changing www.google.com with other sites

BTW... you have a new avatar ... heh heh

@sweetyls

Try to go to this link:

http://66.218.71.86

It's the IP translation of www.yahoo.com. If you're able to connect to it, info.com must have installed a plugin into your browser that redirects you to their site instead of the "real" IP translation of yahoo and the other search engines.

If that's the case, you're right, you need to reinstall IE.

I hope this helps :)

Can IE be re-installed in XP? maybe you can update it by going to the Microsoft website. Do you have the Service Pack installed?

Pag ayaw pa rin... You can reinstall XP (or your OS) from scratch.... or just install another browser.. Try Mozilla Firebird (I use it, a lot more stable than IE) www.mozilla.org

@sweetyls,

check if you have any proxy server entries in IE.

go to tools, internet options, lan settings to check.

if here is a proxy server entry, disable (uncheck) it first and try to browse www.google.com
