Why is MoDaCo wearing american flag colors ?
It was a good will gesture to welcome the new US Smartphone users. You should only see it with a US IP address.

Be careful, in some countries those colors tend to attract bullets

And our reaction is usually to shoot bigger bullets right back at them!

It could be mis-interpreted in a large part of the world.

Not sure placing politically-charged symbols on this technology-oriented website is a "smart" idea...

Now do you get the joke?

You really need to lighten up. It's a Smartphone site. Not a Pro-American site. Let's not make it an Anti-American site.

Do the colors red-white and blue enrage you? They're pretty common colors.

They are common colors, right... It's not the colors that bother me, it's the stars and stripes and what they represent for some people.

The US flag on MoDaCo bothers me about as much as when I see people parading with an american flag (or any other sort of national flag for that matter).

Do you really need to remind americans that their flag looks like that ? (they should know already!). So what's the point ? Maybe I could understand doing that on the 4th of July, like Google does...

Yes, so I see no reason for the american flag... Why is it there ? It *is* politically charged. It's not a joke.

I can understand that while living in California you can become blinded by the freedoms that this country offers you, wheither you are a citizen or not. While basking in democracy and enjoying the fruits of capitalism you may not have heard that there are plenty of planes leaving the country for destinations outside of the US where you can enjoy a friendly AmericanFlag burning with those who share your sentiments.

Unfortunately all of this discussion is not good for your business or this site. So I will cease this discussion now. I need to go and delete my copy of PocketTV from my phone.

Enjoy your evening.

You misunderstood me.

I am not anti-american (nor pro-american either), but I just felt that politics should stay away from this site. That's all I was trying to say. You don't agree with me.

Sorry to hear that you reacted this way.

I don't feel I expressed anything that would hurt our business or this site, but maybe I did, if so, fine, since I have principles that are based on moral, not just profit-making.

I know this was not *intended* to be political.

But you cannot show a flag - especially this one - and say it does not have any heavy political strings attached!

I know that it was to make americans welcome on the site... but why just welcome americans, not the rest of the world too ?

Sorry, maybe it's just me, but I would prefer not getting this (or any other) flag in my face each time I come to this site, but maybe everyone else loves it... I know, if I don't like it, I should just go somewhere else, then...

As mentioned above, you should only see the US flag if you are resolved to a US IP.

So PocketTV, connecting from PACBell.net, you WILL see the US flag, as you are in the US.

I understood that part already.

If I don't see it anymore it's because it's behind a post-it

Yes!!!!

But PLEASE, only for UK-based IP addresses!

Hey, since MoDaCo changes it looks based on the IP address, I wonder what else changes... I'll be in Europe next week, maybe MoDaCo content is different from there ? Who knows...

We have to be proud to see software versions of both the Quran and the Bible advertised here without any argy bargy so I think you guys should chill a bit.

Surely the American flag stands for more than just the current fiasco of a regime ?!

Certainly the symbolism is tricky but the intentions are honourable.

Hey The PocketTV Team,

Since the moderators can't tell you this, I will.... If you don't like seeing the flag there, then don 't come to the site. It's as simple as that. There's plenty more Smartphone sites out there for you to go to and the lost of one irrational person will not hurt modaco.

So for those of you who don't believe in Halloween, did you get this pissed off when on Oct 31st, when MoDaCo turned into a vampire...? doubt it.

Bet I can guess why some are annoyed, even though I'm American.

My home isp is Virgin, so no flag. My work is in a big US bank -- completely run here by British people for over 100 years. At work I get the flag. I only know of 3 Americans in our building.

Let's see: US companies, US movies, US politics... it used to wear on me when I lived in the US. I find people here quite tolerant of it, but I think I can understand some irritation sometimes.

Maybe trying to identify IP's this way doesn't really fit the intention.

O:)

Of course, but a vampire or a pumpkin are not politically charged symbols...

no but the could be religiously charged symbols, which in most cases is much more a touchy subject then politics. Take for instance, some devote Christian who believes that Halloween is a celebration of the devil, or all devil's eve.... again if they are offended, they can leave the site and find Smartphone news and help elsewhere. For someone that lives under the protection of US laws and freedom, you sure sound like you are against the US. If you are going to be here and partake of the freedoms, then you should at least support your team. Otherwise, there's the door....do let it hit you where god split you.

All is relative, naturally. But the US flag may bother more people than a vampire.

I am not "against" the US, but does that mean I have to be "for" everything they stand for and like everything they do ?

> If you are going to be here and partake of the freedoms, then you should at least support your team.

The US is not "my" team. It's not my ennemy either.

> Otherwise, there's the door....do let it hit you where god split you.

In the US, I noticed a lot of manicheism (and people keep mentionning god, too, all the times). For many americans, things are are either "good" or "evil". You have to be "for" of "against".

Sorry, I don't fit in this model. And my understanding is that the US claims to be a democracy and to welcome people of all opinions (and all faith). I hope it is true.
