mpx200 - free with double minutes for upgraders

A friend of mine has upgraded to the mpx200 for free direct from orange a good 6 weeks before his contract was due to end. He enquired about porting to 3 and got the usual sales pitch. Whereas orange wouldn't match 3's priceplans they did offer to double his talktime on the cross net 200 talkplan(£30) to 400 minutes. Not a bad deal considering his average bill spend is around £35.

grrr.. this really annoys me! i went in to the orange shop the other day and they refused to upgrade me, even though my contract expires in 10 days. they tried to call the upgrade line and they refused to authorise it and didnt seem too bothered about losing me to 3/t-mobile.

why do other people manage to blag these deals and not me!!!

Try calling 150 from your orange handset select the 'thinkinig about leaving orange option' and speak to someone regarding getting a pac number. It very much depends on who u talk too but i hope u have better luck this time.

I tried returning my faulty handset within the 7 day return window. Orange suggested i claim it on my insurance and fork out £15 for a return i am legally entitled too as stated upon my receipt!!!

Hi

I followed your advice and rung Orange retentions department, I got a new phone free of charge, 3 weeks before my contract is due for renewal. I rang orange last week and they said they couldn't do it until end of my contract and they said the phone would be £50 to upgrade.

It pays to speak to the retention department as they have more clout when it comes to doing a deal.

I also called about "terminating my contract". leaving for 3 etc...

On the first atempt they said i would have to pay a £75 upgrade fee due to my contract not fininshing for another month.

A week later i called 150 and followed the option for "Leaving orange" and managed to get the mpx200 for free, no upgrade fee and double mins.

The only thing that sucked was that i had to wait 2 days for it to arrive.

When you speak to them demand the pac number because that is what is required by another mobile network so that they can port you old mobile number over. I think it makes them think that you are serious about leaving.

Excellent phone.

Would be nice if AT&T did similar deals for those of us here in the US...

instead you have to pay the full price of the phone to upgrade...no deals at all except for the occasional $50 mail in rebate (this is online...where they give new customers $150 instant rebates)

this is just one of the reasons I'll be leaving for T-Mobile when my contract ends on the 9th...mpx200 should be here anyday now...ordered from amazon...

(btw...sorry about the dollars...for those who need the help exchange rate is $1US=0.581037 UK pounds as of 12/1/03)

I'm pretty sure it is option 6 then option 3 then option 3 again.

Had called up OCS a few times with no help and being told to call back when contract expires....today was the day so i dialled 150 and spoke to CS and advised wanted to end contract. He put me on to upgrades after i'd said they had been no help in past and explained to guy had seen similar deals elsewhere and wanted to cancel.

He put me on hold and then i spoke to someone in Customer relations....i said i wanted mpx200 ( which is free on upgrade - i was on Talk 200)....and as last 3 bills were highi wanted to move to Talk 400...BUT i wanted free text bundles that were kicking about.....she offered me 500 free texts per month for 12 months, phone to be delivered in 2 days and new talk 400 contract ( which i was going for anyway) and I dont have to change my number either

Cant wait for the new mpx200 to arrive now !!! =D>

What contract were you on ??? You could always get one free from onestopphoneshop with new number and then change current orange talkplan to OVP Virgin Mobile and forward any calls onto your new number...i think its free and their is a thread on this somewhere in this forum.....what talkpan do you have ??? It must just be pot luck on who you get as i was adament i was leaving....

I'm on talk 200 and i generally spend about £50 a month. I think I just got the wrong person. I can still get it for free, but I wanted a good deal like the free sms's you get as a new customer. I'd rather not change my number...

Not fair, wish I had looked here yesterday. I had orange call me and ask if I wanted to upgrade, I stupidly just said yes. I got a free MPx200 and nothing else :D

still I got a great phone to look forward to

I got similar prob... I signed up for a new contract on orange.co.uk coz of the texts, and now need to cancel my old one... if i'd have known i'd be able to keep my number I would have done that instead!

So my options are:

a) send phone straight back (if orange still have the 14 day getout clause) and then swap old contract to new one with txts if they'll do it.

 convert my old contrract to OVP Virgin (no monthly fee if I understand correctly) and drop on an appropriate answerphone message

Probably going to go with :D but it'd be nice if orange were just a bit more honest about it in the 1st place.

No need for the answerphone message, call orange everyphone and forward all calls to your new number, won't cost you anything other than the call to everyphone.

My contract was due for renewal next Friday (12th)... but have had my eye on this phone for a few weeks now and have been itching to get hold of one :? . Saw the post on this forum this morning - called Orange Customer Services, and went to the section about leaving the network. (entering 6 - 3 - 3) on the menu and spoke to a representative. Made up some BS about wanting to switch to 3-mobile, but would prefer to stay with Orange. Bloke instantly offered me the phone for free as an upgrade - back of the net! :D

Should be getting it by the end of the week (and a week earlier than I was expecting to get it). Really can't wait now. Thanks for the tip!!

Cool.. I didn't know that... reading in the press it sounds like they are phasing it out, so i'll probably start using the new # anyway, but it's nice to have it in the transition anyway. I take it there is no way to know whether someone has called through the old # or the new one though?

YAY success..

Called 150-6-3-3 and said i wanted to get a pac number as 3 talk 500 was better value, she initially offered me a nokia 6610 and 400 minutes and a one month mms/gprs bundle at no extra cost, and then i said that i'd seen the mpx in store and quite liked it - so she said i could have that if i preferred with the 400 mins, but no mms/gprs bundle. i accepted - she ordered it. 2 days by courier.

WICKED!

Success here too.

Just called 150-6-3-3 said I was planning to move to 3 talk 500 as I'd been paying far too much that year. recently moved to yourplan 300 (300 o to o and landline for £30) from the old Talk 60. She asked me if there was any phone that I wanted. I said either e200 or mpx200. she offered me mpx free or e200 for £100.

Said I wanted a tariff that gave me cross network and more minutes. She offered me free mpx 2 weeks b4 my contracts up and gave me anytime/anynetwork tariff 200 minutes doubled to 400 free and 30 free texts messages per month free. She said my mpx should be here within next three working days

looks like it's working out ok for most of us now... must say it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that we have to barter for these deals... i'd think that once you've been with orange for 5 years (as I have) you'd automatically qualify for the best deals going!

Been with Orange for 6 or 7 years and can't recall ever having a free upgrade, but thats what happens of you want to keep your number and like new phones

Anyway, just been on the phone to Orange and for a fiver more than I currently pay have an airtime, text and data package I am really happy with. And of course the MPX200 for free.

I thought I'd try my luck and see if I could blag a free MPX200. My monthly phone bills are only £22ish, so I prepared myself for a battle, but there was no need - nice bloke on the phone, who himself owned an SPV, offered me straightaway a free Moto, to be delivered on Thursday.

As with others on this thread, I called 150 and then options 6, 3 and 3. I said that I had noticed that O2 were doing the MPX200 now, but before I ask for the PAC code and change provider, I wanted to see if O could do me a deal. Worked for me :)
