<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Wow, so this is really a O2 limitation? I have pay&go, and have been trying to GPRS working properly since I bought my SP5, but no luck. Started a few threads here, but no help.

I thought that the phone for some reason wasn't "compatible" with O2 pay&go, but you are telling me that this is the case with every device?

How the heck can O2 get away with this?

These are my settings for getting O2 PAYG GPRS and MMS on my SPV c550 and they work!

Important, don't forget to 'reboot' (switch off, switch on) your phone after putting in the settings and after any changes you make. It is Windows afterall.

O2 GPRS and MMS settings

GPRS works MMS works (24th March 2006)

both the specific phone (c550) and the account (O2 Pay As You Go Online)

Now got it setup like this;

1) Start>Settings>Data Connections>Menu>Edit Connections

Dialup connection:

Description: o2wap

Connects to: The internet

Phone number: +447712927927

User name: o2wap

Password: password

Domain: blank

Proxy connection:

WAP connection: o2wap

Secure wap connection: o2 MMS (not automatic)

Start>Messaging>Media Messages>Menu>Options>Account Setup>Media Messages

Menu- Edit connections - Menu- Add

Not got this on c550 only Start>Messaging>Media Messages>Menu>Options>5 Account Setup> then 1 Display 2 Sending 3 Edit My Text 4 Signatures 5 Account Setup 6 Import SIM Messages so tried;

Start>Configurations>MMS Settings>Menu>MMSC Settings

Description: o2 MMS

WAP Gateway: 193.113.200.195

I thought it was my phone at first vodafone give you full internet access but don't offer any thing like free texts with your topups like o2 do.

i have been ringing them once a month to get them to open up access i have even tried seeing if the new i mode settings can be used, but alas they can not.

O2 state that if enough people requst full internt access on PAYG they may offer it most people are happy to take out contratcs (thats cos they have no bloddy choice)

anyways ring O2 pester them maybe they will listen atleast internt explorer can get access its just the rest of the stuff that we are limited to not be able o use

so thats no weather no currency rates no time synching no MSN no Smartphone really might aswell go back to a plain dsimple phone for the lmitations they are enforcing either that or take a contrct but the prices dont compare to what i pay now.

at least you now know its not the phone and you have options.

any suggestions?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have various pages saying "This file cannot be viewed on the device", yet they used to work, coolsmartphone and bbc work. I don't know what the problem could be.

I cant even see coolsmartphone!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

What address are you using?

I have;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/pda/index.shtml for the BBC;

http://mobile.coolsmartphone.com/ for Coolsmartphone

www.yell.com for yellow pages could do with a mobile version though

I can't get these working

http://bahn.de for european (inc. UK) trains times

http://o2.mytrains.kizoom.co.uk/ for UK train times

Perhaps some posts of working addresses would be good

Is it possible to set up the C550 to use GSM WAP instead of GPRS? I have an older O2 sim that gives 300 WAP minutes rather than the newer one which gives 1mb GPRS. I think the former would be more useful.

nevawlkalone;

daft question, but you do have GPRS enabled with O2 don't you? Have you ever accessed any pages ever? Try wiping your temp files if so.

GeoThermal;

you can have your free 300 free wap minutes swapped for 1mb of GPRS wap. My O2 sim is actually an old Genie sim, and I swapped to GPRS as WAP is sooooo slow.

I'm not sure how to change the settings to use WAP, and to be honest I'd rather not try it, it took me ages to get the GPRS and MMS working

That is a good point actually. It took me ages to get it working on the C550 and I never did on my old C500!

I may just bite the bullet and go with the 1mb GPRS option. What sort of usage does 1mb GPRS give?

ok people let me clarify GPRS is type of connection

you cannot on O2 PAYG view the internet via your phone

you can how ever view wap sites

ie any web site starting HTTP:// can not be viewed

any website starting WSP:// can be view

such as WSP://wap.o2.co.uk

you can view some web sites by changing the HTTP:// to WSP://

such as www.ttcode.com for registering your tomtom if you try

HTTP://www.ttcode.com page will not load how ever

WSP://www.ttcode.com will load be warned though it can be damned expensive

I'm pretty sure I was able to view my own www website on my SPV C550 via O2 PAYG.

some http web sites have the ability to detect what device you using to browse so you get sent off to a different website such as modaco and hofo

but any that fail just oopen the adress bar swapp http for wsp and it should work

it was easier to fool the settings on oolder phones newer phones are getting harder and harder to del with the data restrictions

please note O2 PAYG is the only PAYG I know that does not offer internet access (web) they do offer Imode and wap

ring customer services if you like to confirm

hence you will find with O2 PAYG you can not access email in messages nor can you sign in to MSN messanger

I have been badgering o2 for months to get them to offer it to payg customers and all i get is

"if o2 customers wanted web access they would take out a contract our customers are happy with the service we offer them"

yes becouse they have no bloody choice

o2 should understand PAYG customers want the same services provided to us that contract customers get

vodafone provide web access but no free texts for topping up

orange provide web access as do T mobile

O2 do not so you have to find a worj around that works on your phone or change to contract

or badger the hell out of them till they give in and give us what we whant

what we should do is start a thread where O2 PAYG customers can have there say about the denial off web access then we should email O2 customers services weekly to show them its a much wanted and needed service

alternative change provider or use a ghost sim and have O2 as calls and text and another provider for web acccess

My personal site doesn't have any detection script etc to send viewers to a wsp version, it is a bog standard website. I'm pretty sure it opens fine but will check when I top up next! :)
