I cannot find a sim unlock tool for HTC Alpine or O2 XDA 2I

My Alpine facing problem with "Power" button recently.

When it hung, I pushed stylus in RESET hole & I didnt knew that POWER button was STRUCKED

So, I have hard-resetted my Alpine instead of soft reset

And lost my DATA.

Then I decided to dis-assemble my alpine to fix the strucked power button.

I've gone through previous post for dis-assembly instructions & my noobness I didn't found clear steps to dis-assemble my Alpine.

Then I've no choice but to take a risk & dis-assemble my Alpine.

Yes, I did it successfully & Fixed power button too.

Here I wanted to share those dis-assembling pics with you people.

First, a note of caution. This is a *guide* you follow at your own risk. If you are in any way unsure, don't try it.

THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY so only do it if you REALLY have to, for example you need to replace a smashed LCD. Remember kids, crying to HTC won't help if you can't get it back together again

You'll need a good torx T6, a small philips, a small flat blade screwdriver and a plastic tool to prise open the case.

( I am working on the phone face down for reference to directions )

The most difficult part of this is removing the aeriel cover in one piece without breaking it. The clips are very shallow so you have to get the small flatblade screwdriver almost down flat in the battery compartment pushin up into the catch release areas. Once they are release there are also 2 locating lugs that you need to lift clear of the main chassis before you can edge the aeriel cover away from the base. Take your time.

Once that's off, remove the 2 torx at the bottom of the chassis frame ( 1 is under the void sticker ), and the two either side of the aeriel, remove the aeriel and then remove the 4 small philips screws from under the battery area.

Next, use your case opening tool to prise the bottom chassis away from the top. Start with the headphone socket side as there are only 3 clips - there are 4 or on the other side.

To removed the main board, disconnect the screen ribbon from the middle right ( some are gates, some are push fittings depending on build date ), and remove the small philips screws in the top right, bottom left and right of the main board. Use your case opening tool to lever the board up from the screen assembly.

The screen itself is held in by one bracket at the top with 2 small philips screws. Thise also holds the speaker in place.

Re-assembly is the reverse of this process. Nothing too difficult if you managed this ok - lots of room inside there!

I'll do a board level comparison with Himalayas when I have chance. There are major differences in the location of most componants so I wonder why they re-used the casing design?

At the moment, it's just a basic device specification, but later it'll be padded out with device specific tweaks, guides and all the other goodies :P

However, if you feel it could be improved, you can by all means go ahead and edit it or post some suggestions for guides etc here :D

Orange say that the M1500 is `java enabled`. Do I need to update the version of java on the M1500? Change an internal setting? Any help gratefully appreciated.

i am in the uk atm, and i bought the phone over at greece (i live there, i study here) so the service center there is not an option.

where can i find a screen for it? is it easy to replace it on my own or it requires soldering or anything like that?

as of yesterday i accidentally dropped a jack splitter (like this one.. (click here)) onto my pda2 from 1 meter above..

at first i thought everything was okay

but then i realized that the touchscreen was not working.. the buttons are working..

though i hesitated that it'd never work again, after taking my iMate apart and after i put it all together it worked for 10 mins.. then it stopped working again.. this morning it did the same, worked then stopped..

so my questions are:

1. can it be something other than the touchscreen? there is a small dent on the screen but the image on my today screen is displayed correctly..

2. if i really have to change the screen where would i buy 1?

Does anyone know what is the maximum size SD card you can put into an SPV M1500?

I remember reading other topics where people complained that their M500s / Imate Jams wouldn't accept certain brands of SD card or would alternatively only accept a particular maximum size :?:

With the advent of ever greater capacities, I think the current max is 2Gb for around £100, it would be great to carry around enough music and movies to only have to re-sync every 2 weeks or so.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have found the forums here really informative but I am stil undecided about which phone to go for.

I just ordered the M1500 which will arrive on friday on select 500 £25 with 1000txt, i snapped the guy's hand off for a free upgrade knowing it is usally minimum £50 upgrade from the online upgrades feature.

I didn't think at the time to ask about the M5000 thinking it would be about £100 but seeing the other threads i think i could have had it for far less or free.

(I know that i am what they class as band 5, which is the top band for upgrades)

With all the problems i have read about the m5000 i'm not sure what to do...

a) Should i go for the M5000 instead?

;) does anyone know how much it costs to return an upgrade?

Incidently i will probably not be using it primarily as a phone and will keep my C500 or get a C550 also to ring/txt from.

Decisions, decisions...

Basically, on start up GPRS connects finew, but once it is disconnected it won't reconnect unless you reset or go in and out of flight mode.

I've seen this reported with the M500 and remember the problem with my original SPV back in the days.

Surely after three yesra they have fixed this problem?

Orange recommended i return the phone, but where does that leave me?

Do i switch to another phone that may have the same problem?

As a work around, how long do the M1000/2000's batteries last if you hack it so that GPRS stays connected permanently?

Here are the instuctions on how to do this.

Take the HTC Alpine and Press the Stylus into the bottom left corner hole(on the side of the device)

Then press and hold the Power Button in.

(Simple instructions:

Press stylus into hole at bottom left side of device, Press and hold power button in at the same time.Device will turn itself off, this means your all done)

The device will now turn off and when you restart your device it will be on factory settings.

Hope this helps people if they run into trouble.

I did get free upgrade after i kicked off about the fact the m500 would have been free and they wanted £75.99 off me for the m1500 :?: , i wore them down in the end ;) .

Any way, anybody know where i can get sat nav for it ?

Im way ahead of all my counter parts with the motorollas etc. I was pretty ahead with my spv c500, but i seem to like the m1500 at the moment, but i also hate it!

Its a nice phone outside of the leather case provided by orange, but as soon as you put it in a case you might aswell say "Hey Mr Chav/Robber, come steal my brand new phone". The size of the phone is well ridiculous. Measuring in at over 13cm(130mm), its massive. The operation of the phone is not exactly great either, as it takes two hands to do anything, and when making a phone call it looks like a really really big 3G phone your holding up to your ear.

I like the functionallity of the phone with word and such like, but its onboard keyboard is slightly offputting as frankly i want to text quickly, and using slang is pretty important for students who wish to use "u" and "hey how r u?", which the predictive text both using the stylus and onboard keyboard is pretty good at not working with slang. I really dislike the awkward menus this phone/brick/object imposes to the user. It took me at least 20 mins of playing to figure out how to make a phone call, and even discover how to work my way around the phone menus in general.

I really like the phone, but the battery is well, not that good at all, it loves to drain the complete phone batter in one days use, which i find pretty poor, as i want my phone to last a lot longer than that(and i thought the SPV c500 was bad with 3 days battery life). The PDAness of this phone is great, but its still larger than my dads GPRS/PDA, which i find very poor from HTC. My dads is a GPRS/PDA but has no phone, but it still manages to be smaller and well, useable, very unlike the m1500.

Also when making a phone call you keep hitting the camera button during a call, which is a real pain as you want to hang up then well leave the phone alone once it is on lock. But oh no, you have to exit the camera and any other program you accidently tap while on the phone which is very annoying.

The camera is 1.3MegaPixels, which i find excellent, and i love the camera as it fits the massive screen very well. This bouns is a reason for this phone to be great, but its bulky-ness of the phone really lets it down.

The confusing menus are pretty confusing to work at first, but it gets easier as you learn how to use this phone/pda/brick.

You will notice im calling it a brick quite a lot, its well because it is! I must stress that this phone is massive. Imagine the SPV m2000, its not as large as that, but its pretty close(when the keypad is concealed). Its quite a bit of bulk in a pocket, and can be spotted a mile away from any junior thief or professional.

It seems to attract a lot of attention from people in the street, which can be a bouns, but on the other hand its difficult to text people while on the move, which is a real shame for the phone to be two hand oriented. If you like to whip out a phone and text rapidly then put it away, or just a quick phone call, then the m1500 certainly isnt for you as it is rather confusing and pretty poor at being a phone in general.

If you want a proper phone with all the functionallties(i refer to this very lighty, as you cant have a small touch screen phone((at the moment)).)

The Windows Media player is a good little tool, and the sound quality on the head phones are excellent, this makes another bonus, but dont be fooled(you cant have your phone on silent and use the WMP at the same time(like i do on my SPV c500), you have to adjust the sounds on the phone to full to experience the sound, then as soon as you want to stop using the WMP, turn the WMP off and the sound all the way down. This is pretty bad especially when say im in a corridor or going into class and i want to just stop and pull the headphones out, as the phone remains in "Loud mode" thus making it possible for me to get into trouble if my phone goes off in class.

In an overview(albeing a pretty basic overview) i find the HTC Orange SPV m1500, very advanced as a PDA/Phone, but in features its top notch, but on real phone capabilities its very poor, but its backed up by the awkward useage of the phone in writing messages/emails/notes, as it constantly requires two handed operations which is a real downfall if you wish to make fast short texts a real problem.

Hope this helps some people in that showing this phone is good if your a business man, but not as a "Joe Bloggs" or as a "Student". Its just to big for pocketablilty which is real downfall as HTC could have made it smaller and more usable like the m500.

Sadly it looks like i will send this phone back to wait till the SPV c600 is released(hopefully this month, October).
