It's showing me the error: Third Party Installation not allowed. I never ever faced this issue when downloading Mobdro APK application from Google Play Store but as soon as I download any app outside Play Store, I get this error.

So you want to root and install Custom ROMs. The previous way to install custom ROMs was to flash a fastboot ROM, but not anymore. I've knew about this method for a while, but never tried it, but I tried it and it works, so here is how to do it.

First of all, if you haven't, update to Android 2.1 either using LG's official update tool or KDZ Updater.

Next, you need to root your phone.. I recommend Z4root, as it's simple, automatic and done right on the device. (For people using the V20C software, please use "SuperOneClick" instead.)

Download z4root.1.3.0.apk from here.

Put the file on your SDcard. Then, using a file manager (for example Astro) or APKInstaller, install the file. Open the app and then select "Permanent Root" Wait for the phone to reboot.

Congrats, your phone is now rooted.

Now, we need to flash Recovery, which will allow us to install Custom ROMs. Download the recovery image of your choice (I recommend that you use ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.1.8 which can be found here.) and put the recovery_clockwork_x.x.x.x_swift.img on your SDcard (Rename it to recovery.img so it is easier to work with.)

Next, install YaffsExpert from the Market. (It's free ;)) Open it and in the first dropdown box, choose "Restore" and in the next, select "Recovery" press "Browser" next to the Operation File field. Select the recovery.img file. Make sure the "Target Device Model" is set to "All other" then press "Operation" wait for it to finish.

Ok, so Recovery is installed, Now we need a ROM to install. Select ANY rom you want, and download it's Recovery version (Either a recovery backup or update.zip) and install it in the normal way.

NOTE: If the ROM you want is only available in fastboot format, take a look at my guide on turning Fastboot images into recovery backups.

Instructions

1- During installation, all your data will erase (contacts, configurations, data and applications installed), but if you dont want to lose the information, you should make a backup using an app for backup from market.

2- To install Android 2.3.7, you need to first have a fastboot rom installed on the phone. If your phone already has a rom with fastboot skip to step 11.

3- Install msxml.

4- Then install the necessary drivers for your GT540 to be recognized, for this installLGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver1.0_All_Win7-Vista (you can use this for XP, Vista and 7).

5- Run KDZ_FW_UPD. Change “Type” a “3GQCT” and “PhoneMode” “DIAG”. Browse europe open rom V20A_00.kdz and clic Open.

6-In your phone ABLE DEBUGGING USB, Settings>Aplications>Development> USB Debugging

7- Plug the cable into your phone and PC, and wait to be fully recognized by the drivers.

**** Note: When you connect the phone, just connect and you do not activate Mass Storage.

8- Now clic “Launch software update”, DO NOT USE THE PC TO THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE. THE PHONE WILL REBOOT WHEN FINISHED THE PROCESS IN KDZ. (The process takes about 15 minutes in KDZ).

9- In your phone ABLE DEBUGGING USB anew, Run KDZ_FW_UPD anew. Change “Type” a “3GQCT” and “PhoneMode” “DIAG”. Browse romfastboot.kdz in KDZ Updater folder and clic Open.

10- Now clic “Launch software update”, DO NOT USE THE PC TO THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE. THE PHONE WILL REBOOT WHEN FINISHED THE PROCESS IN KDZ. (The process takes about 15 minutes in KDZ).

11- When this process completes, the fastboot is now installed on phone.

12-UNPLUG OR DISCONECT THE PHONE FROM PC.

13. Turn off your phone, press the camera button and power button while pressing do not leave until the FastBoot mode is activated, you will realize that it is activated when there appears nothing on the screen just stay with the backlight on. CONNECT THE PHONE TO PC.

14- Run Android237GT540 and follow the steps of the installer. (DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE)

*** NOTE: Run the installer (Android237GT540.exe) somewhere on your drive C: / from your PC, ie run it on the desktop, my documents, etc..

15- NOW YOU HAVE ANDROID GINGERBREAD 2.3.7 IN YOUR PHONE. Change the language in Settings. Then reboot.

We would like to suggest a path for the future development of the LG Optimus GT540 smartphone.

Recent developments on the Android platform have made the 2.1 version of the OS outdated and might render that version obsolete in near future. Most of the current products sold by your competitors are running Android 2.2 and some are already getting updates to the new 2.3 version of OS software.

Optimus GT540 hardware specifications is impressive and should be able to run newer OS version and be more competitive overall. Sadly, the hardware is extremely limited by current software, preventing us users from utilising the full capbilities of your device. Furthermore, we are unable to make use of many applications available to other Android users, since the 2.2 system version is the minimum requirement for them.

Qualcomm recently announced official support for full Flash for MSM 7x27 processor, which the LG GT540 Optimus features, however full Flash requires Android version 2.2 or higher to run. This is one of the many reasons to upgrade our LG to Froyo.

Such update might also generate higher sales of LG smartphones. About camera recording, live wallpapers etc. All will work with new adreno props I have but thay need kgsl 3.8(I have 3.0), porting that will take some time… After that I will update CM to 4.0.4 and give you an RC build. I merged the new audio hal from CA and it sounds soo badword better, test it It should fix all the sound issues. Test the BT headset, I made some changes that could fix that. The last thing I want to do with audio is to fix the third party remotes, like apple headphones and Beats by Dre. I work on native fm radio – stay tuned.

EDIT 1: Managed to go to Emergency Mode.

EDIT 2: KP500-Utils-EN is asking for some URL after I entered my S/N and IMEI. What URL?

EDIT 3: I thought I'll try and put the .kdz URL. Right now it's saying "#R&D SVCProcessing..."

EDIT 4: Apparently even in Emergency Mode the phone isn't connected to the computer. So now I'm stuck at "Emergency Mode" screen. Oh and under devices, I can see all three drivers. The "LG Android Phone", "LG Android (Modem)" and "LG Android (Serial)".

EDIT 5: All the drivers disappear when I click on "LG Android (Modem)".

Fixed : All right, fixed it. Had to try a few times, but I manage to flash the phone with KDZ_FW_UPD.

IM POSTING MY VIEWS ON THE NEW JELLY BEAN 4.1.1 THATS BEEN RELEASED FOR THE LG GT540

I have just (with-in 30 minutes) downloaded and updated my LG GT540 to the new jelly bean and so far so good. Straight away i have noticed a major stability change from the ICS i had put on a few months ago. The issues i had were that great i reverted back to gingerbread 2.3.7 as i knew this to be stable and very reliable.

Things i have noticed other that which have been stated as bugs are as follows!

1:: Certain setting appear not to work

i.e:- Device

Storage -- This sends you back to home screen

Battery usage -- This is somewhat inaccurate but only seems to be minor at the moment

Apps -- Doesnt seem to read all apps stored

everything in personal, account and system seem to operating just fine

2:: Gallery does not seem to work either but with no camera i can not take photos to be able to test properly so anyone that does already have photos if you can leave a comment please do

3:: Home selector appears to be missing

4:: The ability to adjust the cpu outage appears to be missing (apps are available for this thought)

So far these are the only effects that have i issues on. As time goes on no doubt there will be more but it appears to be quite stable. The effect of this will be tested in due course. i will be downloading a game on which i can test the stability of this OS.

!!Games are a great stability test of android systems angry birds is a perfect one because of the size of the app whilst running!!

Right now the misfortune of the bad side of the OS known as jellybean i'm going list some of the things ive noticed that i like.

1:: The smoothness of screen change.

2:: The layout of the settings menu.

3:: The overall look of jellybean.

4:: Some native wallpapers are interesting

The guide is from a forum post at the android forums,it is NOT my work, the added bits are mostly what I have found from browsing here and from asking questions. While I can't be held liable if you mess your phone up having done so myself I thought this could helpa few people and save them searching various threads for answers so hope it helps ;)

The guide

To install this ROM you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. If you have Android 1.6/2.1 installed from LG, then fastboot is not enabled. I will explain how to enable fastboot on your phone (this involves re-flashing/replacing your currently installed firmware):

KDZ Updater CarphoneWarehouse Unlocked.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash to Android version 2.1 with fastboot (Carphone Warehouse Unlocked)

KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip - A link to a zip archive with all the files needed to flash toAndroid version 2.1 with fastboot (Europe Open)

Download the version that best applies to you, if you live in the UK, I'd recommend you download the Carphone Warehouse Unlocked version, whereas if you live in Europe, I'd recommend the Europe Open version (simple right? )

I live in the UK and used the open rom from Europe as the Carphone Warehouse rom would not install

Now, how to flash these versions; I'll explain in detail how to flash the ROM's from starting with backing up.

Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:

1. Before you start, make sure you backup all your data by installing the z4root.1.3.0.apk file onto your phone, then open it and choose 'Permanent Root'. Your phone will root and reboot. Then go to the Market and install 'MyBackup Root', open it and do a backup of your apps and personal data (contacts, sms, call log etc.) Once this is done, go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card, a notification in the notification bar should appear saying 'SD Card safe to remove'. Remove the battery cover and remove the SD card and store it in a safe place. Then continue to step 2.

2. Extract the .zip file you downloaded to your computer (e.g. your desktop). Open the folder and install MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser (msxml.msi).

3. Once that has finished, install LGAndroidDriver_WHQL_ML_Ver1.0_All_Win7.exe which are the drivers so your computer will recognize your phone.

4. Next, open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe

(i) Change 'Type' to '3GQCT' *THIS IS A MUST, THE UPDATE WILL NOT WORK OTHERWISE AND YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE*

(ii) Make sure 'PhoneMode' is set to 'DIAG'

(iii) Browse for the 'V20B_00+Fastboot.kdz' file.

5. Prepare the phone by enabling USB Debugging by going to Settings>Applications>Development>Enable USB Debugging and connect the phone to the computer via USB cable and wait for the drivers to install for the phone.

6. Click 'Launch software update' and do not use your computer until the update is complete. The update will take roughly 10-20 mins to complete.

If you have a problem with this try a different rom, this guide offers two to choose from.

Instructions to install CyanogenMod:

Once the update is complete, your phone will reboot, what you need to do is power off the phone and whilst the phone is off, press and hold the 'Camera' button all the way ANDpower on the phone, make sure you hold the 'Camera' button. The phone will display the LG logo and disappear, then display a blank screen. The phone is now in fastboot mode!

Now you want to download this file: Flashing CyanogenMod.zip and extract it to a folder called 'Android' (without the quotes '') on the C: drive (you'll probably need to make this folder yourself.

1. Now open CMD with administrator privileges (Search for CMD in the start menu and right click on 'cmd' and click 'Run as Administrator' )

2. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable and wait for the necessary drivers to install.

If when connected with a usb cable the computer says "waiting for device" and nothing else happens try installing the fastboot drivers a helpful forum member posted and which are included as an attachment in this post. You can do this by going to the control panel of your pc, from the Windows start menu, opening the list of devices and where you see the one representing your phone (likely, as was the case with me, it will say android and have a yellow exclamation mark over it). Different versions of Windows do things slightly different but what you need to do is simply update the driver by choosing the icons properties box choosing UPDATE or INSTALL DRIVER and when asked pointing it to the folder where you unzipped the drivers.

3. Then go back to the cmd window and type:

4. Your phone will now reboot with CyanogenMod 6.1.1 (Android 2.2.1). The first boot might take longer than a normal boot.

If your phone stays at a blank screen you simply forgot to do one of the above steps, in which case simply repeat them. It is likely if that happens that you simply forgot the flash boot image instruction.

5. You can now re-insert your SD card and go to Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Mount SD Card

The instructions for flashing both the firmware with fastboot and flashing CyanogenMod are included in the zip archives called 'Readme'. I'll update the links so that you'll always have the most up to date version of CyanogenMod available for download, note that if you choose to update your phone you will loose all your data including apps etc. so backup before you update

And that, with a few comments added by myself, is the guide.

Once you have set your phone up the way you want power off your phone. Hold the HOME and POWER buttons down while the LG logo appears and you will see a menu appear on screen.

Using the volume down key to navigate the different menu choices, and the camera button to select an option choose the BACKUP OR RESTORE option and from the sub menu that it will give you choose BACKUP.

This will make a backup of your phone AND all your data, if you ever mess up an update or think you have damaged your phone in the future simply holdthe POWER and HOME buttons down and when the menu appears choose the RESTORE option :)

The update for GT540 (RC5) doesnt has Lg Keyboard, only has stock android gingerbread keyboard, but if you want install LG Keyboard, follow next intructions.

then KDZ_FW_UPD and reflashing with the rom but it didnt work. AFter the phone restarts by it self it still stuck at the android logo.

Posto ste napravili nadogradnju na 2.1 slijedeci korak je identican 1. koraku s tom razlikom sto sada flashamo 2.1 ROM sa Fastbootom.Poslije uspjesnog flashanja Ponovno ista stvar, ali sada flashamo Clockwork Recovery ROM. Kad ste gotovi potrebno je prethodno skinuti "Android SDK" raspakirati na sistemsku root particiju "C:\", uz to iskopirajte prethodno skinuti "recovery.img" takodjer u "C:\".

Potom, desni klik na "My Computer", pa "Properties", pod opcijom "Advance system settings", nalazi se sa lijeve strane prozora ( Win 7 ), pod tabom "Advance" kliknite na "Environment Variables" gumb, te unutar okvira "System Variables" pronadjite stavku "Path" te dvoklikom urediti putanju na: "C:\android-sdk-windows\tools\" naravno bez navodnika :-) Sada je potrebno iskljuciti mobitel, iskopcati USB kabel, ukoliko je ukopcan, te kad je mob ugasen pritisnite prvo "power" tipku te odmah poslije "camera" tipku, te drzati pritisnuto par sekundi, prvo ce se pojaviti "LG logo" a potom odmah i nestati, a ekran ce ostati zacrnjen, sad ste usli u fastboot :-) . Sada je potrebno ponovo ukopcati USB kabel u mob i pokrenuti "cmd"-command prompt sa administratorskim ovlastima i unjeti slijedecu komandu: "fastboot.exe flash recovery C:\recovery.img" bez navodnika. Pritiskom na enter pokrecemo flashanje "recovery.img" slike te ce te dvaput vidjeti "OKAY" sto znaci da smo uspijeli. Iskopcajte USB kabel i izvadite bateriju iz moba.

NAPOMENA: Ukoliko vam se desi da kod ukopcavanja USB kabela Windowsi izbace gresku da nemogu instalirati potrebne drivere ( mozda ce se desiti kada cete ukopcavati USB kabel kada je mob u fastbootu-zacrnjeni ekran ), za razliku od nekih metoda sa rucnim unosom potrebnih drivera, ja sam iste skinuo preko Windows update, znaci naredio sam Windowsima da traze drivere za mob preko neta ( vidjet cete u "Device Manager" stavku "Android", znaci to je uredjaj za kojeg trebamo drivere, pa dopustite da Windowsi pronadju odgovarajuci driver preko neta ).

3. Nadogradnja Android sustava sa 2.1 Fastboot+Clockwork recovery ROMom na Black Quarx modificirani ROM

Ukoliko je mob ukljucen, iskljucite ga i iskopcajte USB kabel, ukoliko je ukopcan. Drzite odgovarajucu kombinaciju tipki: "power"+"camera" par sekundi sve dok "LG logo" ne nestane a ekran bude zacrnjen. Prethodno skinuti "Black Quarx ROM" raspakirajte na "desktop". Otvorite folder "BlackSystem" na "desktopu" i pokrenite "flash.cmd" datoteku sa administratorskim ovlastima. Sada ukopcajte USB kabel u mob i pocinje flashanje ROMa. Mob ce se resetirati i imati cete instaliran "Black Quarx 2.1 ROM".

4.Nadogradnja na App2SD

Backupirajte sve sto Vam je bitno sa SD kartice na sigurno mjesto na lokalnom disku. Na mobu prilikom ukopcavanja USB kabela jednostavno "moutajte" karticu tako da joj Windowsi mogu pristupiti. Pokrenite MiniTool Partition Wizard. Pronadjite pod izlistom diskova vasu SD karticu. Desni klik pa odaberete opciju "format". Formatiramo u Fat32-primary partition. U lijevom gornjem uglu prog. kliknite na "apply" i dovrsite radnju. Potom desni klik na SD karticu pa odaberete opciju "move/resize". Na slijedecem prozoru kliknite na desnu strelicu unutar pravokutnika koji oznacava cjelokupnu particiju, te odvucite "slider" u lijevo promatrajuci redak "unallocate Space After" sve dok ne dobijete vrijednost 500MB ili nesto tome najblize. Stisnite "Ok". Ponovo stisnike gumb "apply". Sad je potrebno novo kreirani prostor formatirati na "ext2----primary" particiju, a to radimno odabiruci desnim klikom "unallocate space" pa "format" na "ext2-----primary partition". Gotovi se s pripremon SD kartice. Iskopcajte kabel i ugasite, te ponovo upalite mob. Udjite na mobu u "settings"--"Applications"--"Development"---oznacite "USB debugging", "Stay awake" i "Allow mock locations". Unutar "autorootapp2sd" foldera nalazi se "autorootapp2sd" batch datoteka, pokrenite ju. Izaberite 2-english jezik. Izaberite -r- za rootanje moba, kad se postupak zavrsi restartajte mob. Ponovno pokrenite "autorootapp2sd" batch datoteku, no sada odaberite -4-full app2sd, pricekajte zavrsetak postupka, te resetirajte mob opcijom -6-quit and restart the phone. Imate instaliran App2SD i sve daljnje aplikacije instalirati ce se na SD karticu.

---About BackUp Before Install---

>>Do not recommend backup apps because it will change into a completely different version, the better once you have installed Android ICS, download it from the market. .

Before any procedure, make sure you have good level of battery. And removed from your SD card folders that say Android, Android Secure, Data.

---Section 1---

1-. Go to this tutorial CLICK y has todo el lo que se indica, eso es porque al final de la instalacion, se instala la rom, pero tambien se instala el Recovery que sera necesario para que instales Android ICS.

2.- Una vez hecho el tutorial que indique arriba, continua en la Seccion 2.

---Seccion 2---

Para empezar, descarga el Android ICS desde el link de arriba. Despues copia el zip a la tarjeta sd (no extraigas el zip).

1.- Con el telefono encendido, oprime el boton de POWER hasta que aparesca el menu de apago, selecciona REBOOT y despues selecciona RECOVERY, el telefono se reiniciara en Menu Recovery.

2.- Selecciona "wipe data/factory reset" y dale "yes".

3.- Selecciona "wipe cache partition" y dale "yes".

4.- Selecciona "advanced" despues "wipe dalvik cache" y dale "yes".

5.- Selecciona "install zip from sdcard"' despues "choose zip from sdcard" y busca el archivo zip que descargaste y seleccionalo, por ultimo dale "yes".

6.- Espera a que termine la instalacion, y aparecera un mensaje que dice "Install from sdcard complete."

7.- Selecciona "reboot system now" y el telefono se reiniciara.

8.-Ya tienes Android Ice Cream Sandwich Instalado en tu LG GT540.

---Solucion Facebook App en la Beta 4---

En la Beta 4 existe un problema de que no se puede descargar, utilizar facebook, aqui tienen la solucion:

1.- Descarga el appfix DESCARGAR (no extraigas el zip)

2.- Con el telefono encendido, oprime el boton de POWER hasta que aparesca el menu de apago, selecciona REBOOT y despues selecciona RECOVERY, el telefono se reiniciara en Menu Recovery.

3.- Selecciona "install zip from sdcard"' despues "choose zip from sdcard" y busca el archivo zip que descargaste y seleccionalo, por ultimo dale "yes".
