Decided to give windows phone a try as a change from android, I have a Lumia 735 and for the most part I like it other than the bluetooh seems to be very buggy, at least I think it's the bluetooth.

The phone is normally fine execpt for when it's in the car, where it seems to have a habit of crashing and rebooting. When in the car it's connecting via bluetooth to an IO play 2 for Handsfree and also A2DP audio streaming.

It's getting quite annoying as I tend to use spotify a lot in the car, and sometimes I'm using it as a sat-nav. Obvisouly if I'm driving I cannot enter my Pin/restart these apps untill I can find somewhere safe to stop.

Hello,

One of my friends has an Omnia i900 that cannot boot, but wants to save the contacts stored in the phone's memory. The phone tries to boot but is stuck on a green screen and when connected to a pc, it isn't recognised. I would try flashing a rom to get it working but the contents of the storage will get deleted... Is there any way to get the contacts off the phone?

Today I have installed a firewall software (ProtectStar Mobile Firewall for Mobile, downloaded from http://download.cnet.com/ProtectStar-Mobile-Firewall/3000-2094_4-10539376.html). After successfully finishing of the installation it requires reboot, I pressed "OK".

After rebooting (and by every following attempting to start), the phone freezes on the "Unlock device" screen. The keyboard for enetering of unlock code appears, but is not responding. Hardware buttons also don't like to respond. The phone is heating, and after a minute I have to remove the battery because this is the only way to stop it. Soft resets didn't help.

The phone is Samsung Omnia SGH i900, bought in 2008, with the official Samsung ROM last updated in 2009.

If somebody have ideas, please help.

Well the Lumia 1520 is a great device and for some the size is not a problem, but this is a sad tale that may make you think twice on keeping the device in a pocket.

What is a problem though is how to carry the phone. Now I have been carrying the phone in the front pocket of my trousers making sure the screen is facing my leg and nothing else gets put in my pocket.

So after taking my phone out to use the camera imagine my shock to see a massive crack, now what is surprising is the crack is on the internal screen and not on the main gorilla glass screen. The only way I can see this happening is the internal screen is under pressure and a tiny amount of stress/flex in my pocket was enough to crack the screen.

The phone has not been dropped or knocked when in my pocket so I can only guess as to the actual reason for the damage. The downside is not only visual but the capacitive touch is not working in the top left corner and it appears to freeze the screen so it becomes unresponsive, pressing the home button appears to restore it.

Problem I have is this is my only device with a nano SIM so unless I can find an adaptor I can not send the phone off for repair as I need to have a usable phone.

Nokia will repair it but it will cost £125 initially and possible more if they feel it needs more work. So can I even afford to have it repaired in the first place? not good for a 10 week old device with a two year contract.

Lumia 820(already updated) is the first windows phone which I bought not very long ago. I found out that it is easier get hot than my previous cell phones when just bought. And the battery life also a little disappoited me especially when watching non-stop media..

I know it could be many reasons since I’ve asked help from google...I think most probably is the overheating drains the battery.

I am not sure the generated heat was a result of a defective battery since my display did not set to higher levels or using the flashlight, games, heavy web and videos browsing. Sometimes these indeed suck my battery out of life very quickly. Anyway, I swap a MPJ 2500mAh battery which I bought with my Lumia 820 to troubleshoot if it was the problem of BP-5T, but it worked quite well. Also, the phone charger did not have any physical damage.

Then I tired to off the phone for one whole day and set display to even lower. After some steps indeed helped me discovered some apps that were pulling too much battery power cus after I installed these apps it stopped loosing its charge super fast. Luckily it was not a defective OEM battery but I already start in relying on quality replacement battery:)

Hi WP8 users!

I'm planning to join the club on a Huawei Ascend W1.

But before spending the 200 Euros I want to make sure all my most important Android Apps are available or replaceable by a decent alternative. Would appreciate if you could help me with this small list:

Must have:

Shazam

Line

Whatsapp

MobileVOIP

Google Translate

Jorte calendar + MyPhoneExplorer (offline sync with Mozilla lightning calendar)

Pretty nice to have:

Leo.org

imo (a messenger integrating facebook chat and skype, would love to see whatsapp, line, and maybe even sms in there)

Tripadvisor

Barcode scanner

Swiftkey

Google Maps (I know there is the Nokia thing, but is Google Maps available too?)

Period Tracker

I sincerely hope there are no issues finding these:

FlashLight

OI Notepad

Skype

Youtube

Alarm Clock Plus

And maybe a more general question: Are there many decent free apps in the Windows Store? I'm not used to paying for apps...

Cheers!

Turned on the phone today when woke up but it had a little airplane in the top left screen corner.

Apparently it's in flight mode.

I never put it in flight mode before I turned it off.

Turned off the phone then it seemd to be bricked and wouldn't turn on.

Remove the battery and now it works again.

It's been driving me crazy all week. Only purchased it on Sunday.

The first problem was transferring music to the phone on the SD Card. It would freeze up part way through file transfers..

Swapped the SD Card for one that is faster and now it seems to be working.

Did I get a dud phone?

I first considered WP7 phones but what's the deal with apps being backward compatible with it? For example having a look at the new Facebook app it doesn't seem to be compatible with 7.5. Is this something common?

Also any personal experience with whatsapp? Reviews seem to say it's pretty poor.

I am about to get a phone upgrade in a couple of days,

I am currently a HTC Sensation XL user, but I am thinking of going down the WP route,

mainly looking at the HTC 8x as my carrier doesn't really offer any other WP devices (Lumia920 "coming soon")

Anyway what I was wondering was how have people found WP8 and more importantly,

how have ex-android users found the switch?

Also does anyone have the 8x and if so how are you finding it in terms of both hardware and software?

Any info / tips would be great :)

Just wanted to hear a few opinions on the best phones out there.

I have a blackberry at the moment (you probably don't want to here that here xD) and it was the worst decision ever! I've had it for less than 6 months, I've been very careful with it. I haven't dropped it or anything it is in perfect condition and for some reason it started turning itself off and on through the night until its battery died. It's obviously got faulty hardware or something and it's being repaired (or has been for the last 2 weeks and there's still a few weeks to wait :/)

so when the warranty runs out I am not spending over £40 repairing a phone when it isn't my fault that it's damaged :|

/rant over.

I need a reliable phone. I am looking for an android phone.

I have looked around myself and I'm only young (AKA have no money what so ever) so i'm looking for something low priced, not like the HTC desire and such. (although I would if I could)

I was looking at the Orange San Francisco (or the ZTE blade), the HTC wildfire or the INQ touch cloud... any other suggestions?

Hi Guys,

Got a Lumia 800 with 7.8 on it (taken from Navifirm) and all working fine (as it was using 7.5).

However my operator in the UK (Orange) blocks teathering unless you have a special plan and pay more for it. Personally I find this disgusting as I don't require teathering per se - just ad hoc for testing the odd thing out. Therefore paying it not really an option as I don't need it on a monthly basis.

Also I feel that I pay for 1Gb data allowance - surely I should be able to use that how I wish.

When using Android, I used custom ROM's and could teather without problems.

Anyone know how to bypass operator restrictions? If I put my SIM into a rooted Android device with custom ROM it works fine - seems like Orange have some killswitch applied to the WP device for Internet Sharing which only they can remove.

Any ideas?

Thanks - Steve
