I used as a base this ROM:

These devices are not supported because they are missing at the current moment in DFT team. Please don’t even try to use this release with them – it may brick your phone or make it unusable.

Basic stuffs to know:

SPL is Secondary Program Loader. It allows to flash ROMs to device.

Without working SPL device is fully bricked, you can’t restore it. It’s why all operations with SPL are dangerous.

OSPL is Original SPL. This SPL comes with stock ROM and doesn’t allow to flash custom stuffs.

RSPL is Reloaded SPL. It load only to RAM, so it doesn’t persistent. It’s enough to soft reset device to get OSPL back.

HSPL is Hard SPL. It’s permanently flashed to internal device memory and replaces OSPL. After soft reset you still have HSPL instead of OSPL.

This release consists from RSPL and HSPL wizards.

For regular users, who flash ROMs rather rare, it can be enough to use only RSPL.

For advanced users and ROM makers, it can be useful to install HSPL.

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Before doing any operations be sure you have battery level more than 50%!

Sometimes in SPL mode WP7F devices DO NOT charge. You may got a cold brick if it power down during SPL or RADIO update!

2. Stock RUU ROMs have two NBH inside, SPL_Signed and RUU_Signed.

So it's not possible directly flash stock ROM, you need extract files and remove SPL_Signed.nbh at least.

3. Rememeber if you have HSPL and you flashing stock RUU_Signed.nbh you lost HSPL!

4. Supported OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.

Warranty Issues

Be warned, using RSPL may void your warranty.

If you need to send your device to a Repair Centre, make sure that it looks like stock! Install stock official ROM before go to Repair Centre.

Hey there,

I got the HD7 as soon as it was released as I was under the impression that HTC were still the main manufacturer of Microsoft smartphones but I'm guessing this is no longer the case.

The LG Optimus 7 is clearly a much better spec handset, apparently containing a Tegra 2 chip, although I seem to find conflicting information on that one, but it has augmented reality functionality and DNLA support. How on earth did LG manage to get a device out with more advanced functionality than HTC? This confuses me and just suggests that Microsoft are working closer with LG now.

I'm actually considering selling my HD7 and getting an unlocked LG Optimus 7 now, various reasons besides the couple mentioned above, I also regularly get weird graphical glitches and have to restart the device, seemingly after listening to music.

Anyone else feel the HD7 has been a let down?

Comparative Review of HTC Desire HD and HTC HD7

Desire HD

For

		- Great Feel and Fantastic Build

-	Great Camera

-	Amazing App Choice

Against

-	Android is bloated

-	Software feels like miss mash of ideas

-	Poor Battery

HD7

For

-	Fantastic WP7 that feels more Apple than an iPhone

-	Speedy and never feels bogged down

-	Amazing keyboard

Against

-	Poor Battery life

-	Feels less solid that Desire HD

-	Camera adequate but not as good as Desire HD

Overall Choice:

I would chose the HD7 as despite its build not being up to the Desire HD it is a slicker smoother easier to use OS with more games and a better user interface than Android. You use WP7 and come away feeling like everything is easy and beautiful in life. Add in Xbox Live games and Zune streaming/downloads and it is everything you can want in a phone. You can still use your Gmail account with WP7 and have the benefits of a keyboard, which is on par if not better than the iPhone’s standard-bearer.

Critical Comparison:

I chose to pick the high lights for those who don’t want to read lots… but I have many more thoughts that I didn’t get into.

I just love picking up the Desire HD. The feel of the metal unibody and weight feel just right in my hand and I long for an 8MP camera that is has compared to my iPhone and the HD7’s 5MP shooter.

Both phones have battery issues and HTC seem to have put the smallest batteries into the biggest most powerful phones they can find… Both will run out if you use them all day and there is definitely a market for a battery company to produce a more powerful battery for the phones.

The Desire HD has the newer second-generation QUALCOMM processor which should power it along smoother than the HD7 but it doesn’t feel that way. Android doesn’t freeze or stutter by any means but it feels like there is always something going on behind the scenes than can cause a problem… and occasional bugs do pop up. The Desire HD also supports flash 10.1 and it is a delight to see videos on pages pop up.

The Android market is packed with pretty much every app you could want despite a dearth of games there are hits like Angry Birds present but so are apps like Spotify which WP7 currently lacks. Due to the huge number of android phones on the market lots of banks and online sites now have android apps and it no longer feels like you are missing out not having an iPhone… yes the quality and quantity isn’t quite there but it is so close now that you won’t notice it.

The WP Marketplace on the other hand is missing lots of niche apps and company apps and right now is sparse. Yes the big companies are there – Facebook and Twitter and Spotify is coming soon but right now you do notice the lack of options in the marketplace compared to the Desire HD.

Windows Phone 7 feels so smooth compared to Android that you feel like you should be using an Apple phone. What WP7 lacks in user definable settings (such as VPN) it gains in slickness and good looks and ease of use and the keyboard is fantastic as surprisingly is Bing search. It works very well and brings up more useful search results than Google on the Desire HD. That is not to say Bing is a better search engine than Google as it is most definitely not! But the way it has been implemented on WP7makes its more relevant and useful to use than Google search on the Desire HD.

If HTC could take the build of the Desire HD and put WP7 on there it would be the perfect phone right now… better than my iPhone 4 that I love. Yes WP7 lacks some important features but they will be coming in the short term and very quickly you may see people choosing WP7 over an iPhone if they use it before purchasing.

Of course if Apple update their UI and improve the camera on the next iPhone as they definitely are expected to then they will be back out front with the best combination but right now I am definitely considering not carrying my iPhone 4 about as the HD7 does everything it does… the only reason to keep it right now is the better app support.

Taking us back to the HD7 vs. Desire HD – both phones are great phone and neither would be a bad choice but being lucky enough to have both and have an iPhone 4 as well I can afford to sacrifice some features that WP7 does not have and chose that as my choice of phone out of the two prize fighters.

I'm having a right dilemma over which device to get. It's between the Omnia and the HD7. I really like the sound of the SAMOLED screen and I suppose that's the only tipping point for me. I've had the original HD and more recently the Hero and Milestone so am tempted to go back to HTC for one special reason; ROMS.

I suppose it's only a matter of time until somebody gets Custom ROMS running on WP7 and I know the HD7 will probably be at the forefront of them on XDAs. The Samsung though will probably be left behind or with far fewer to choose from.

Why am I posting on here you're probably wondering? Because I'm looking for somebody to say "yeah, go with the HD7! The screen isn't ALL that different" lol.

So is anybody else having a similiar indecision? I'm currently with Tmob due for upgrade on 24 Oct though was thinking of canceling, buying the HD7 sim free and using a giffgaff sim @ £10ppm. Don't have to agree to any ridiculous 2 year contracts then (which by the way - when the hell did that happen!) compared to the 12 month one I'm almost finishing.

Thoughts?

Found a site that listed the HD7 as unlockable, most don't mention it in their handset lists. Entered my IMEI, computer said yes, paid my $25 by paypal (about £16 ) and a whole 8 MINUTES later got my code emailed to me. Tested on t-mobile PAYG, handset works fine, even prompts to update operator settings.

Hi, today my phone started suffering from "screen tearing", flickering across any graphical elements. It is not so noticable on screens with just text but anything that has a picture such as the tiles screen is badly affected. Found a couple of threads on the MS Social forums, here and here. Both suggest but do not confirm there is a product recall for affected units. Just wondered if anyone at Modaco has heard of this issue and can confirm what HTC or O2 (in the UK) are doing to solve the problem?

Cheers.

my HD7 became faulty within 3.5 weeks of buying it sim free from the O2 store (I am on t-mobile) - battery became very poor and weak without internet, calls or texts (lasted 4 hours after being fully charged with FULL signal bars)

I bought an unlock code from htcimeiunlock.com to unlock the phone and worked great!

But now I have had to give it an instore exchange/swap (O2 policy) - I now need another unlock code. Do I have to purchase another one?! That would be unfair as no one knows how long it will take to find it if the device gets faulty! in this case for me...3.5 weeks ;)

Hi

I have just acquired the HTC HD7 as an upgrade to my previous HTC S710 running Windows 6.5.

Well what can I say? The phone’s fine a good size for portly fingers. Well that’s about it.

On my ‘old’ 710 I had alternative Sat Nav’s loaded, a Genealogy programme, Handy Safe for storing info and it could sync straightforwardly to my PC’s and wife’s Nokia.

OK so you can get around the non availability of its direct sync capability. However there doesn’t appear to be any available Sat Nav for WM7, the company who made the genealogy programme are holding back developing a WM7 version. So what security software is available? Kaspersky have yet to offer a WM7 version. I see there are a few apps for storing passwords etc but how reliable are they?

In addition to acquiring some useful software along the lines of the above has anyone stumbled across any apps which would show whether you are roaming, wifi connected and what network connections/speed you have?

TIA

OK, I've just been abroad to the middle east due to family reasons. I took my WP7 (HD7) device.

in the UK, im on t-mobile. I don't make many calls or txt messages or even email to be honest. Just a normal avg user.

So here, it takes around 1.5 days before I need to fully charge my batt again.

However when I was abroad, 4 days later its around 20% with the same usage (and a few international calls being made and received from, in addition to some email syncs, maybe around 2 times a day?) - whats going on here?

seems like the UK Carriers are for whatever reason, doing alot of processing/signals and sucking up the batt where as abroad, not so much!

any ideas or theories?

Hey guys, I recently bought an unlocked T-mobile branded HD7 in the states, It works well in the country I live. But now my question is. If I got my HD7 debranded or if I flash another firmware on it, will my device relock back???? I'm really unsure if I want to flash my HD7 in the future when updates pops out.

Replies really appreciated.

It seems like a conspiracy, but all the new windows phone 7's have fixed memory. There is no option for your micro-sd card and you have only the choice of 8 or 16Gb devices.I can only guess Microsoft has restricted memory size too.

Microsoft believe in freedom and liberty for all so long as your WM7 phone does not exceed 16Gb :P

If microsoft are hoping to compete against Apple then they have failed before they start. Apple offer 8-16 and 32Gb devices.

I hate Zune, and why no compatability with outlook! Only way around it is to copy all your outlook files and transfer them to windows live.

OK It was pretty easy to personalize my HD7 but for one thing!! Ringtones, yes they give you a choice of a few million :D but I want my own mp3 ringtones. Why no mp3 editor or facility to put in your own ringtones.

Maybe Microsoft have left it out on purpose so they cannot be charged with aiding and abetting copyright infringement while I trim up my new ringtone from some chart hit :D

Build quality is as expected! Great! just a shame they did not follow through with a metal battery cover like on the HD2.

Hey Guys,

People at Chevron Wp7 have found a way to deploy custom ringtones to WP7

The whole procedure can be found under the link below, I tested myself and it works fine.

As far as I know there is no way to remove the custom ringtones, so some of you guys might rather wait Microsoft to deploy the Mango update by next year once it will enable the user to apply custom ringtones, those like me who cant wait have the benefit to use the app below.

Check it out, cool!

Is anyone working on a SuperCID or HardSLP unlock for the HD7?

Would be nice to Flash the Euro Rom to my network blocked device.

Or does anyone know of a way to mod the generic HTC rom without getting invalid vendor id?

Curious if the battery life is as poor for other as it is for me?

Initially I thought it was due to virtually no signal with O2 but now I am on Vodafone during a normal day with very little use, no games and about five minutes of video the battery towards the end of my working day is being shown as about 1/4 left.

I know the battery meter is not an exact science with the one that is part of the OS but compaired to my Omnia2 which lasted for days, I'm not too happy.

Anyone else find the same?
