RapiDroid Alpha 3

Half a year after I bought a Defy+, I made my first ROM. :) As I used to did with the Omnia 2 ROMs, I made this one for myself also, but I share with the community, because I'm such a nice guy. :D If you want, you can give me advices or ideas.

The base of this ROM is the official DFP-231 rooted Gingerbread ROM. I removed some stuff and added apps and features what I missed from the official one. The ROM is a smooth and relatively fast ROM with additional features.

I don't want to change the World with this ROM and it's not a competitor of the big ones (CM, MS2G, etc.) either. It's mainly created for speed and battery saving.

Language support:

EN, DE, GR, ES, FR, HU, IT, NL, PL

Removed:

The ROM is ~90% "DeBlurred". Some apps stayed, like BlurEmail, Youtube, etc.

Google Quick Search Bar

All types of "social" stuff (Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo...)

Swype (so you can install a newer version)

Added:

Notification Toggle

Blur Music is removed and instead separate Blur apps added to music and FM Radio

V6 SuperCharge Update 9 RC9

720p video and panorama

Deep Sleep support

USB modem support

JPEG compression is 100% (for better pics)

Keyboard backlight fix (Brightness can be set here: system/etc/init.d/08backlight)

MMCFix (SDcard handling issues)

All WiFi channels are enabled

callrecording support (you can use any callrecording app)

Moto Home swicthed to Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Launcher

ClockworkMod Custom Recovery (2ndInit Recovery)

10 fingers multitouch support

Reboot option added to power menu

Di.fm app

FlashLight

Newest (19.09.2012) Gmail, Google Maps, Google Play, Youtube and SuperUser apps

i know what your thinking, not another bloody rsd lite wont recognise their defy. but hold on a second. i have literally tried everything. ive had to start using the macgyver hack cuz i drained the battery. im running rsd as an administrator, ive tried putting my phone in bootloader and as per the rsd user guide just with m logo showing. ive downloaded the driver software and reinstalled that. i have searched many threads and seen lots of people who's phone has been recovered but for some reason none of these seem to work for my phone. this all started with a basic slip of the finger. i had just installed miuiandroid on my phone and was going to make a backup, just in case. i know, ironic huh. i shut the phone down and went to reboot but held my finger on the vol up instead of down and got thru to the bootloader. i pressed the power button to turn it off and start again but it just went blank. i pulled the battery and found myself stuck at the m logo. its been about a week now, i'm running out of ideas. please can anyone help me save my defy.

Can someone help me, I trying to install the call recoding libraries as destail in the XDA post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201070)

Sorry very new to Android less than a day.

So as I understand it:

1) Root my Defy (straightforward)

2) Install CWM. Is this the easiest way to do it --> install ROM manager ("https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en")

Now here is where I get confused:

Can you tell me if the libraries work on: Version.34.177.3.MB525.Orange.en.GB?

? Do I place the zip containing the libraries on the sd card and use CWM? Is that all I have to do? ((http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201070)

)

What I don't understand is why I have to install CWM, can't i just extract the libraries, use a root explore and replace the libraries manually?

Not keen on CWM, might brick my device.

Thank you.

Anyone who's had their earpiece go kaput on them, & got it repaired, is it happy ever after, or has the fault returned?

I have read that these faults were simply due to the flimsy terminals loosing contact, quite possibly using the headphone socket repeatedly may have caused this. I also read of some people actually swapping them out for K850i earpiece, having better terminals / fit. I think someone had to file the plastic sides slightly to make a perfect fit, but then it was actually an improvement on stock.

Anyway I digress... I wouldn't like to do this myself, so... does it fail again after being repaired?

Thers's only so many trips to repair centre I'm willing to put up with....Great phone

====

EDIT

No the fault hasn't returned. Great phone. I think something to do with the old earpiece having flat terminals & losing contact. New ones with springy terminals that remain in contact with the board.

I have updated my Defy's software using the official Motorola Software Update software. The update process passed through but at the end the phone not booted.

The error message is the following:

Bootloader

09.10

Err:A5,69,35,00,27

Battery OK

OK to Program

Connect USB

Data Cable

I have browsed the forum for some help but found nothing. I have even tried to reset with: Vol Down + Power + right down tap. But the small droid doesn't come up.

After that I brought the phone to the official Motorola service. They dropped the two-year long warranty!

They say I have illegal software installed on the phone. How can it be? They promised a free repair if someone from Motorola support reply in support forum and clarify that this error message doesn't mean illegal software!!!

Here is my motorola support post: Motorola support forum

12-Oct-2011 FIXED!!

This post explains why, provides the files and instructions on how to fix it:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15341774&postcount=8

---------------------------------

Here's the sad sequence of events. I thought I'd upgrade my wife's Defy from UK T-Mo/Blur to anything newer. They were good intentions, I tell you.

1. Installed defy-recovery, a nice port of clockworkmod so that I could do a full nandroid backup

2. Copied a cyanogenmod zip to SD card (no flashing performed at this stage)

3. Factory reset/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache

3. Installed the CM zip

4. Everything looks great!

5. Realized I needed to get gapps installed, so copied them onto the SD card, but then my troubles started when I...

6. Reinstalled the recovery partition from (1)

7. Result: Hangs on initial splash screen on reboot

From here on, I've been learning about RSD Lite (you need 4.9 not 4.6) and flashing everything I could lay my hands on.

First I flashed UK T-Mo 2.51, but this resulted in no boot screen at all, a truly scary moment. Luckily, RSD Lite could

still flash.

I then flashed UK T-Mo 3.4.2 (Froyo 2.2?), but then couldn't get root with ZRoot (later learnt how to do it manually).

Then I flashed this:

    JORDN_U3_97.21.51.rar

from this thread:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14762402&postcount=143

At this point, this is the *only* SBF I can flash now to get a working phone. Even if I use that as a starting point and apply

updates from the SD card, I end up with a hung boot screen or a boot loop. Even when I restored my original backup, I end up

with a boot loop.

So, you see I've got myself into a bit of a pickle. Is anyone able to help? Please?!

Edit: I should be clear about what I'd like to do! I'd like to be able to either get back

to where I was, or to 2.2 or 2.3. I definitely want to get away from the "JORDN_U3_97.21.51" build. Thanks!

Thanks

I've sent my Defy in for repair twice now and they have failed to fix it on both occasions. The issue is that when I connect to wifi it doesn't connect to the internet, and sometimes wifi will turn itself off with no reason. Please don't suggest fixes for the wifi problem, I've tried everything I could find on the google and xda.

Basically I want to know if I am within my rights to demand a new handset as it is still within warranty. It costs me money to send it to them each time, and I'd rather not send it back to them again, only to have it returned with the same problem.

Cheers.

If anyone has any questions, go ahead and ask, I also took a few ropey pictures; I attached final result, have a few I took during the process.

Screen ordered from here: www.sourcingcat.com, took 10 days to arrive

Followed instructions here:

(BTW, no affiliation with either of these sites, feeling pleased with myself and want to share)

I now recommend using an app call "SetVsel" available on the market developed by Inteks, as it is specifically for the defy and does away with the need for various apps Original Thread

Not my work, just posting up here. Props to trickyhenry over at XDA for bringing this to my attention and of course the guys responsible for bringing the Milestone-Overclock to us and adding support for the Defy.

Google Code link: http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclo...es/detail?id=63

So as per the above overclock is now available for Defy. Rooted phone is needed for this to work.

Download the Milestone-Overclock.apk and install.

Open the app and click on load module, then use the slider to select your overclock

QR code for direct access to the apk:

link removed due to a better solution being available

My girlfriend updated her T-Mobile UK Defy to Official Motorola Froyo yesterday. It was a pretty effortless upgrade and it seems all her system settings were preserved except the screen lock password, which was wiped.

Go here and follow your nose to download the software which you install on your PC and then run, with the phone connected by USB, in order to update the phone - http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/update/. 24 hours on from installing the update everything still seems to be fine.

I have read all the guides I know how to use RSD lite and 2nd init. But what I can't find is the stability of these ROMs obviously I don't want a 2.1 ROM and I like the look of MIUI but I'll settle for a speedy 2.2 ROM.

So any suggestions?

Hello. I'd like to go back to 2.1 for repairs (another victim of earpiece failure, depite having the supposed "safe" code under the battery  ). I'm getting conflicting information on the net wether this is possible. In my case, flashing 2.1 made a brick, had to MacGyver the battery overnight, today RSD finally let me flash, but the only thing that comes back to life is the same Froyo leak that I'm trying to downgrade from!

So.... Is it possible? I really need to get back to stock (& maybe update OTA the 'official' update).

Should I just send it in anyways? How much would an out of warranty earpiece repair cost?

I'm really dissapointed as this is one of me favourite phones, encouraged to root etc, then part failure :(
