Hi everybody! I have a motorola Xoom and I was wondering if I could upgrade my device to jelly bean, so I searched the internet but I couldn't find any ROM that works with my device's version. Does anyone know anything about it? I read that it's needed a particular version of JB because my xoom has wifi AND 3G.

Thanks!

P.S. Great forum, I have a Galaxy Nexus and I always find everything I need here :D

Hi folks like most people I will be looking to flash a ROM to allow me at least some updates ,perhaps even "gedify it" If I can find the NOOBS guide (seems to have vanished?)

I have always understood that my UK MZ604 was WIFI only i.e. wingray so you can imagine my surprise when I used

Smart System Info app from the play store to which tells me the following under DEVICE;

MOTOROLA MZ604

Brand MOTO

Code Name wifi_hubble

CPU ARMv7 Rev 0 (v71)

IMEI/MEID

Hardware Stingray

1) So if I want to Gedify OR apply a new ROM which do I need Singray or Wingray????

2) Am I not understanding wingray/stingray?

3) Is the app in error?

An help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks in advance

Has the workhorse Xoom reached the end, just barely picking up JB support from Motorola and a handful of enterprising repositories, i.e. CyanogenMod, AOKP, and TeamEOS? Or, do you foresee any future support for the Xoom?

I still own and use mine every day. In fact, I prefer it in many ways over my Nexus 7. Even though it's showing its age (perhaps slower by comparison to the N7), it has never really let me down.

Of course you realize this is just a thinly-veiled ploy to ask for a Modaco Custom ROM to support my Xoom and, thereby, extend the life of a perfectly good device for years to come. ;-)

Hi All,

I'm after a power source for my Motorola Xoom tablet that's cheapish but will do the job. Most of the ones I can see are genuine ones that cost £15 and don't even have the right pins for the UK (Travel adapter or something).

Anyone know where I can get these for under a tenner?

Cheers!

It ssems to protect the device quite nicely but disappointed you cant charge the device or use its stand while charging or using usb.

Hi All,

I had the experience to use the Archos 101 G9 and I wasn't impressed at all. Loads of issues and not stable at all.

So now I'm in the market to buy another tablet and I found out that there are more than one version of the moto xoom so I'm a bit confused which is which, the following what I'm considering to buy

h**p://www.carphonewarehouse.ie/Product/strong-Motorola-strong-Xoom-WiFi-Tablet/238307/328.0

some of my questions are....

Is this the moto xoom 2 or just the moto xoom wifi?

Does it read sd cards?

Is the problem of video calling with Skype fixed?

Is it fully compatable with the latest flash (video playing such as BBC iPlayer).

Are there any mayor known problems with this model?

and the last and most imprtant question do you suggest the moto xoom wifi or the Toshiba AT100 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Many thanks,

Anyone found a port yet so I can see what all the fuss is about? Failing that, anyone got any rumours about when the tablet version of OnLive might actually go live in the UK?

Just seen on Techradar that Xoom owners are already getting access to 3.2.. When accross the world 3.1 lagged behind in some markets over others.. Seems odd, but that is how uipdates go I guess!

Hi All

I purchased my Xoom yesterday. I exchanged it from a Advent Vega.

I had a full 16Gb sd-card which I want to use with the Xoom. It does recognize it. But my problem starts when I want to update the sd-card. My Xoom won't mount on my Powerbook using OSX 10.4.

Is there anyway to enable USB slave mode. The Xoom comes with one usb cable.

I know there is an app Tranfer Files, but it requires OSX 10.5, which my Powerbook wont be able to sustain. Only a 1.3 Ghz.

If not, I will have to depart with the Xoom.

I was wondering if the Slave/Host app created by Corvus for the Vega could work. Someone mentioned that it does work with other products like phones. I tried but not working. Maybe the Xoom should be rooted.

Thanks

I was fed up with motorola not updating my uk xoom to 3.1, so I flashed the US ROM so I could receive the 3.1 update. So I made a howto guide on my blog:

http://twon23.blogspot.com/2011/07/flashin...-wifi-xoom.html

Suggestions/feed back are welcome.

EDIT: Honeycomb 3.2 is now out! So once you have flashed the US ROM you will receive it.

Nearly a month after Motorola released Honeycomb 3.1 to its US customers, the so called (by Moto) "Non-US" customers are still waiting.

1. Motorola refuse to answer any questions relating to the update, other than to say "we're working on it" and "check here for updates". No time scale, no reason why the delay, no explanation of why the "Google Experience" means different builds for different countries.

The Motorola support forums are unsupportive, Motorola are burying their heads in the sand with Xoom early adopters returning their Xooms to stores due to the lack of communication by Motorola.

I'm actually happy with my Xoom, but Motorola are showing their "Non-US" customers utter contempt.

I will never buy another Motorola product again and would advise anyone outside the US considering one take a read through the official support forums before deciding.

Hi all,

Got my Xoom WiFI delivered yesterday finally!

When browsing the Web, the content always switches to mobile view which is HIGHLY annoying.

You can change by putting "about:debug" in the URL bar and then you can go to settings and change to Desktop/Android/iPad/iPhone/FroYo

The issue I have is that on Desktop mode; the browser keeps on crashing!! And when it crashes, I can't use it again until I reboot. Anyone else experiencing this? I tried Dolphin HD but I don't like it as much as the native browser... and it also crashes on me a lot!

Otherwise I absolutely love the device. How anyone can say the iPad 2 is superior to this is beyond me. I only have the iPad 1 but it does not compare to this at all.

Plus on the market I noticed that all Android apps are accessible... shame some of my purchased apps haven't been updated to run full screen on the Xoom yet though.

Went & bought a Xoom yesterday after choosing it over the ipad 2.

All I can say is I'm not disappointed. No lag, good apps with more to come, feels nicer than the ipad, more sturdy/solid.

Honeycomb is very good. It's replaced my laptop already!

If you're in two minds... BUY ONE! :)

The bad news is that Apple didn't increase the resolution. ... The iPad 2 sticks with the same 9.7-inch screen with 1024 x 768 pixels. ... The Motorola Xoom sports a 10.1-inch panel with 1280 x 800 pixels. Still, we prefer the iPad 2's screen because it has wider viewing angles ... and does a slightly better job resisting fingerprints. ... It's still a mono speaker. ... [it] has plenty of audio oomph, but the Xoom's stereo speakers are more impressive. ... The camera quality isn't great. ... Don't expect great video quality ... You also don't get a flash, which the Xoom has

Ipad 2:

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

XOOM:

If you stick with H.264 Baseline Profile, you can achieve up to 1920x1080p at 30 fps at 20Mbps.

Baseline Profile means:

- No CABAC entropy coding.

- No B frames

- No 8x8 transforms (DCT)

- No Weighted Prediction

For 1280x720p at 30 fps, you can go up to 20Mbps and Motorola XOOM should still be able to handle it. More Realistically, depending on the content, you can get away with 4Mbps and up with varying degrees of quality. If you are tight on space, use 4Mbps. If you want something to look good you can use 10/12 Mbps. At some point though the higher the bitrate will only translate to decreasing amounts of quality improvement. In other words, 20Mbps will probably look as good as 15Mbps, but will just use up more space. Ultimately, there is really no one size fits all solution and it may take a little experimentation to find the settings that work best for the content you wish to view.

(Tips: we always use this Blu-ray Ripper to rip Blu-ray DVD movies onto iPad 2 and Xoom)

Additionally your device does not have a limitation on certain types of B frames (Main profile tool). So you can add in B frames and not affect performance that much. If you are using a encoding tool that uses B frames, such as QuickTime Pro, you should be able to achieve main profile encoding.

If you are using a lower resolution that 720p (such as 720x480 resolution size) in order to encode longer length video , you can get away with using more tools (High and Main profile tools). However, encoding become more complex and may require more experimentation to achieve acceptable results.

In general, if you are concern about performance, use baseline tools and possibly b-frames (with no weighted prediction). This will give you the best performance.

Also as side note, if you are upscaling from a DVD to 720p try to use the best upscaling algorithm provided and don't expect to get true 720p quality from upscaled DVD.

Looks like Xoom is a tad bit better in terms of supported Hardware video decode capabilities.

In terms of GPU - it seems that the Ipad 2 may have a bit of an edge with the new power VR 543 - though this is not official as there are no direct comparisons yet.

So, only one topic in this forum? Really?!

Are there any fellow pre-orderers for the Xoom on Modaco?

I'm eagerly awaiting mine, which ought to be arriving within the next two weeks... I did consider cancelling and ordering the Eee Transformer, but having played with the Xoom in the states, and compared the specs, I think I'll stick with the Xoom (I don't think Asus's customisations will be good either, so I'd rather have complete stock - but the price is alluring!)

What about people who are considering pre-orders?

Or people who've cancelled their pre-orders?

Would be interested in hearing other people's opinions!

Hi,

Just wanted to drop in and let you know I just updated my game (see signature) to work on the xoom. It works fullscreen and includes large native graphics.
