How to root your HTC One X Tegra3 (for Windows, Mac and Linux)

In order to root devices with unlocked bootloaders, I normally post a 'superboot' image. However, at the time of writing, the HTC One X (Tegra3) has an issue with it's bootloader whereby it is unable to 'fastboot boot' images, so this is not possible. The superboot is posted below for when this is resolved, however for now I have also included an alternate method.

I am currently working directly with HTCDev to solve the 'fastboot boot' issue.

Your bootloader must be unlocked via htcdev.com to use these solutions.

EASIEST ROOT METHOD - 'RECOVERY + SUPERSU'

The easiest way to get root is now to install the official ClockworkMod release and then flash the latest SuperSU zip file. This approach is highly recommended (I also recommend running a backup as soon as you've flashed clockworkmod!)

ALTERNATE ROOT METHOD - 'INSECURE BOOT AND ROOT'

This zip file contains an insecure boot image to flash to your device and a script which will then push the root (SuperSU) files to your device. This is only tested on 1.27.401.2 / 1.27.401.7. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

How to use InsecureBootAndRoot - Windows, Linux and OSX

- Download the InsecureBootAndRoot zip file above and extract to a directory
- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume down' button pressed to enter the bootloader, then press the power button again to enter fastboot.
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-insecure-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-insecure-mac.sh' followed by './install-insecure-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-insecure-linux.sh' followed by './install-insecure-linux.sh'

The device will now flash the new boot image and reboot. Keep the device attached to USB and when it has rebooted, ensure USB debugging is enabled - the SuperSU files will then be installed.

CONVENTIONAL ROOT METHOD - 'SUPERBOOT' (currently not functioning on shippping devices).

Superboot is a boot.img that when booted, will root your device the first time you boot (installing su and the superuser APK). No need to flash any partitions, no need to mess around with ADB, no messing with the contents of your data partition, no overwriting the shipped ROM on your device, just boot the boot image using the instructions below and you're done!

The superboot image is also 'insecure', allowing you to use 'adb remount' as well as having full ADB root access to your device until such time as you reboot after running this process (it's a non permanent ADB root as it's a 'fastboot boot' and not a 'fastboot flash' but it IS a permanent root in all other regards!).

How to use Superboot - Windows, Linux and OSX

- Download the Superboot zip file above and extract to a directory

- Put your device in bootloader mode - Turn off the phone then turn on with the 'volume down' button pressed to enter the bootloader, then press the power button again to enter fastboot.

Interim ClockworkMod Touch Recovery for the HTC One X (+stock download)

Hi folks!

Until such time as an official ClockworkMod recovery is available, I have created an interim (non official) ClockworkMod Touch release. Please note that the One X doesn't seem to enable access to USB when booted as recovery (proven by flashing the recovery partition with the insecure boot), so you will not be able to use ADB etc. at this time.

INSTALL AND USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Your bootloader must be unlocked via htcdev.com to install this.

To use, either flash via fastboot ('fastboot flash recovery r1-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-endeavoru.img') or boot directly ('fastboot boot r1-modaco-recovery-clockwork-touch-endeavoru.img').

I have also uploaded the stock recovery should you wish to flash it (e.g. for OTA).

Not streaming html 5 video in browser or streaming video from streaming apps.

This problem occured after I accidentally turned off the phone mid video. Upon turning the phone back on, any kind of video streaming won't start even with full 3g/wifi signal. The loading circle just disappears as if it's about to start the video and then a dialog box pops up claiming the video cannot be played. I can play locally stored files through both the default player and mxplayer so I was wondering if I could fix the issue by clearing data and cache from the streaming player app that is included in android but I am unable to find it in the app list.

Some of the apps I have tried streaming video from which all previously worked: Crunchyroll, Netflix and Web Based HTML5 videos in Chrome.

Help would be greatly appreciated and I would love to try and avoid a factory reset if possible <3

Have a lot of music downloaded on spotify and a couple of very large game.

SOLVED: I tried watching a video through internet pass-through which worked after a minute or so and now I can watch stuff on 3g/wifi again.

In light of kennethpenn's little exploit for the AT&T One X, I figured it was probably about time I looked for the same sort of solution for the Tegra 3 One X.

This is a good root technique that a lot of vendors seem to miss, i've rooted a bunch of devices this way (including the Huawei G300, various Archos devices of old etc. etc.) but in the past it's been only of limited use on HTC devices due to their S-ON partition locking.

Sooooo... I found an exploit and i've packaged it up. It works on my bootloader LOCKED device, but I do have S-OFF, so it's hard for me to test properly. I've also only tested the script on Mac at this time.

To use, download the zip file below, extract and run the appropriate script for your platform. You use this at your own risk! Worst case scenario, you'll have to reflash with a RUU (make sure you have one handy!)

[help] Earjack not working properly

Hello,

Since some time the earjack of my HTC one x stopped working properly,

When i insert my headphones or speakers the phone doesn't recognise the jack (not displaying the headphones in status bar) nor will it play music over them.

When i reboot (from reboot menu NOT by just shutting down and powering it on again) it recognises the jack and works great, untill I take them out. The phone still thinks the headphones are inserted (not pausing my music when i take them out) and also im not able to take calls on the phone without my headphones in or turning it to loudspeaker.

When i reboot my phone again without the headphones inserted it returns to original state (with headphones not being recognised when i connect them)

Anyone suggestions on how i could fix this?

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Download ROM zip

2) Place zip in your phone's sdcard.

3) Extract boot.img from it onto your computer

4) Move the boot.img to the folder where your fastboot files are

5) Press Sift + Right clock and select 'Open command window here'

6) ON your phone, bootup to the bootloader screen and select fastboot

(Should change to fastboot USB when connected to your computer)

7) Type in "fastboot erase cache" (Without Quotes) And press enter.

8) Type in "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (Without Quotes) And press enter, make sure command goes through.

9) Type in "fastboot erase cache" (Without Quotes) And press enter.

10) Go into recovery on your phone.

11) Make a full wipe, wipe data/factory reset; wipe cache partition; wipe dalvik cache

12) Install ROM from sdcard.

13) Boot up

14) After the first boot, you can go into recovery and flash any mods or the Blade AROMA package

About MoDaCo Custom ROMs (MCRs)

MoDaCo Custom ROMs are based on official ROMs - either shipping or leaked. A MCR release is designed to feel as far as possible like a stock ROM, with optimisations, tweaks and complimentary additions that enhance the user experience. The aim of a MCR is to be ultra reliable for use on an everyday device. MoDaCo Custom ROMs include online kitchens that allow the user to choose between stock ICS or Sense style for most features on the device!

About MoDaCo.one

The MoDaCo.one ROM is available for the HTC One X (Tegra 3), HTC One X (S4), HTC One S and HTC One V.

Requirements

In order to use this ROM you must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed - this can be installed using ROM Manager from the Android Market.

The ROM is installed at your own risk. The ROM should be installed using ClockworkMod. A wipe is NOT required to use this ROM if you are coming from either stock, or a previous MCR release.

Installation

To install this ROM:
- Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and copy to your the internal sd card (/sdcard/)
- Restart your device in recovery mode
- PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU
- Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to the internal sd card!
- NOTE: If you are using a S-ON device (you probably are!), in line with other ROMs you need to manually 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' the boot image from the update zip due to HTC's restrictions.
  If you have problems with Market licencing, check your device date!
  
  First boot may take a while - be patient while it carries out it's pre-dexopt. It's worth it! :D

This is a Work In Progress project, and the main goal was to make something different from the usual Sense UI rom but with the powerful Sense camera and other Sense goodies. Htc one x wifi issue

My one x has just developed the infamous poor wifi issue that HTC fixed in the middle of June 2012 by modifying polycarbonate casing, and by pasting four polycarbonate pieces on to affected one xs that went for repair.

After obtaining the official htc fix document my options are:

1. Send to htc and hope they do not break anything.

2. Solder the problem

3. Use tin foil and hope it does not short circuit my one x.

Will see what htc say first.

It has been a few updates after release, and I am glad to see improvements here and there. However, there is no improvement regarding the camera performance - too high compression, too low bitrate, too low framerate. At the beginning I thought all should be software problem and can be fixed easily, however after a few updates, they are still being neglected. (actually, it has been years since I was using Desire, the problems were already there) Especially for HTC One X, if it can do slow motion video capture @ 60 fps, why it cannot do normal video capturing @ 30 fps?

Is it really only software problem? Or capped at kernel level? Anyone hear anything from HTC?

I picked up a One X on T-Mobile yesterday and noticed the ROM is already out of date compared with the official HTC release.

Is it possible to debrand it and get it back on the HTC track?

I'm assuming i'm not the only one who has this problem. it seems after data connection has been on for a while, it suddenly dissappears and it won't turn back. The only way to get it back is to reboot the phone.

Is there a fix for this?

Hello,

I have set my cpu to 102-860 mHz. But when i look into CPUSpy 1400 mHZ is also used like 30% of the time.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Ive already switched between different roms and kernels. Right know i am using EternityProjects rom and kernel.

Working:

Mobile data will take a lot of time to correctly connect, there's not much you can do about it just wait untill it correctly connects. I'm investigating this issue currently. When it is connected is stable, it will not disconnect this happens only after a reboot or after initial setup.

Menu key is remapped to recent task button, long press home brings up recent apps.

This rom doesnt include gapps you need to flash them seperately.

Installation instructions:

- First flash the boot.img manually via "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

rom wil superwipe everything 2 times no need for manually wiping (system, data. cache will be wiped!!!)

Sort of Boot Loop After Update and Restore

I have a 3 UK HTC one x and I received the latest update this morning. I couldn't apply the update for some reason, so regressed it back to 1.26 then the 1.28 and then the latest one. I then flashed my nandroid backup which I took before updating. It is now boot looping and gets to the lock screen then reboots. I cannot reflash with the latest update as its now not on the phone.. is there a way of getting another nandroid backup to it or the ota.. I looked at adb but can't seem to get a connection as it doesn't list in devices.. as I was going to push some files across... have I missed something.. or any advice? thanks in advance
