Hi

	I have a rooted Huawei Ascend Y330-U01.

	I tried using the secret codes (engineer mode?) to test the hardware of my phone.

	Sadly nothing works except *#06# to display IMEI.

	Any idea what is wrong?

It seems that SSD performance decreases over time, since unlike hard disk drives (HDDs), NAND flash memory that make SSD cannot overwrite existing data. This means that you first have to delete the old data before writing new one.

Flash memory is divided into blocks, which is further divided in pages. The minimum write unit is a page, but the smallest erase unit is a block. This means that as time goes on, the SSD will internally fragment the blocks among the different pages, until that it reaches a point where there won’t be available any empty page. Then every time the drive needs to write a block into any of the semi-full pages, it first needs to copy the current blocks from the page to a buffer, then it has to delete the whole page to finally rewrite the old blocks along with the new one. This means that as time goes on the SSD performance degrades more and more, because for every write it has to go through a cycle of read-erase-modify-write. This is known as “write amplification”.

TRIM was invented for solving this problem, allowing the operating system to tell the SSD which blocks are free in the filesystem. The SSD uses this information to internally “defragment” the blocks and keep free pages available to be written quickly and efficiently.

Hello there!

I'm new around, I have Huawei Y300-0100 (rooted).Last few days im flashing different custom roms trying to find the one i feel most comfortable to work with, but I always find something i dont like or some bugs so i decided to get back to stock b209 or b199(I bought my phone with b199 and updated it to b209 via official firmware).

I knew im not gonna make it if i put the "dload" folder to SD card and try to flash it with CWM but I had to try.. :D So i was trying to find some topic in the forum about getting back on stock without flashing any "Stock" Roms (lite or modified versions, I just cant find any real stock ready for flash with CWM/TWRP).I red something about "zeroiing imei" or something but nothing else.

So can any one tell me how to do it, or if its not possible to help me find some stock rom that can be flashed with CWM/TWRP?

P.S. Forgot to write that when I try to get back to stock (with update.app and Vol + - PW buttons), it's unpackin but failing ("Update failed") when it reach Step 2/2...

Thank you! :)

This is taken from the results of my own experiences found in this original thread: http://www.modaco.com/topic/366266-ascend-y300-b182-root-twrp-custom-rom-advice/

Re posting as a new topic for clarity's sake.

***********************************************************************************************************************************

I have successfully unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, rooted, and flashed a custom ROM.

Below is the methods I followed:

1. First I downloaded drivers for the y300 from here: https://files.dc-unl...BE98BC29A9C1216

Extract the drivers and launch 'DriverSetup.exe'

Wait for this to install fully.

Then downloaded dc-unlocker and install: https://www.dc-unlocker.com/downloads

2. Next, turn off your phone and remove the battery for 5 seconds. Replace battery, and hold vol + and - and the power button for several seconds, until screen goes a violet colour. If your phone just boots as normal, go into your phone settings and turn off 'fast boot'.

Now connect your phone to your computer via USB and wait for the drivers to install fully.

3. Once your phone is connected, load up dc-unlocker. In the 'Select Manufacturer' box change it to 'Huawei phones'. Leave everything else as it is (including the 'select model' box).

Click on the large magnifying glass button. This will scan the phone for its bootloader code and show the unlock code required after around 10 seconds.

Copy and paste the 16 digit "Bootloader code" somewhere safe (like a notepad file).

Close the dc-unlocker, turn off your phone (you may need to remove the battery), and unplug from the computer. Reboot your phone.

WARNING- THE NEXT STEPS WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE: IF YOU NEED TO BACK UP ANYTHING, DO SO NOW!

4. I then followed Step 2 onwards from this webpage: http://huawei-y300.t...ascend-y300-all

I also had the lovely guidance of danny19901 :)

The files needed for these next few steps are at the top of the page, or you can use the newer version which danny19901 kindly uploaded for me: https://www.dropbox....O-ROOT-v1.5.zip

You need to extract this file and follow the instructions on the website linked above (or those given by danny19901 below).

At step 11 of the website instructions, when running 'unlock_bootloader.bat', type in the 16 digit unlock code generated by dc-unlocker.

Once you have completed these instructions, all being well, your phone will have an unlocked bootloader, be rooted, and have TWRP recovery installed.

From here you can choose and install a custom ROM.

I choose FusionX (http://www.modaco.co...a-discontinued/) and this seems to have great performance and be very stable. Danny19901 recommended CM 10.2 for y300 ( http://www.modaco.com/topic/365931-jb-431-cyanogenmod-102-rom-all-nightly-builds-available/ ). This is more cutting edge as it's android 4.3. Meant to be very good but still has some minor bugs. Apparently you need to have TWRP 2.6 or higher installed before you can flash this - this tutorial installs 2.5.01 or something. I had difficulty trying to upgrade as GooManager didn't work and Fastboot also had errors so I just gave up. (If anyone can help with this issue, pls let me know).

Installing Custom ROMs:

To install a custom ROM, download the file and copy it to the root (ie not in any folders) of you phone sd-card.

Turn off your phone and restart into TWRP by holding vol + and power for several seconds.

Once in TWRP, go to 'wipe' and swipe across to wipe the phone system caches (this won't erase your sd-card).

Then go back to the main menu and click on 'Install'. Scroll down to the ROM file you copied to your sd-card and click on it. Follow the instructions on-screen.

Once this is complete (maybe a minute or so) reboot your phone.

Fingers crossed you should have successfully installed a custom ROM!!!

I would like to thank danny19901 for his help with all this and below are links to the websites I used for other guidance:

	Hi,

	I just got a Y300 and I am completely new here, so I have a couple of questions:

	- Which rom do you recommend? (I want something stable and fast as possible.)
- Do you have a tutorial that your recommend for unlocking, flashing (mainly getting the right drivers) or anything that is Y300 specific?

	I want to install a custom rom, because the one that is on there is full of bloatware (EA Games, etc.). I want something as lightweight (will install smallest GAPPS), so I can install some apps. Currently I can only install 1 app on the phone.

	Thanks!

All right straight to the point. I was changing ROMs earlier, from CM 10 (by kratos) to CM 10.1 (by zuitanes). After installing CM 10.1, I decided to revert back to CM 10 (I made a backup for it before I flash CM 10.1).

Now, the restoration was glory, then I rebooted the device. Waited for about 10 minutes and still stuck at the CM Boot Animation, and I started to panic. So I removed the battery and tried to boot into recovery (via VOLUP+POWER) but no luck, it still booted into the CM boot animation. I tried it again and again and still nothing happened. So I tried to put it in fastboot mode (via VOLDOWN+POWER), still no luck.

Is there any way to unbrick this device?

EDIT: Tried ADB and worked...

I've installed AICP on my huawei y300 and it works fine, obviously laggy, and with bugs but I liked it, since I haven't seen improvements on the video hardware decoding thing which doesn't allow us to play videos, I just wonder if there will be a nougat version.

I managed to repartition my G330 to 450MB /cache, 5MB /cust, 1.1GB /system, 1GB /data and 930MB /storage/sdcard0
without losing any data. My installed installed SlimKat 9.0 still worked after this.
(I have no clue how much /cache one needs, maybe less iss enough.)

Note: Below, I have posted a reduced guide if you only want to increase /data at cost of internal SD size.

This is how I repartitioned my G330:

Prerequities:
- installed CWM 6.0.4.4 (others may work, I just had this one installed)
- adb (from Android SDK)
- external SD card with >4GB free space
- "resize2fs_s" from https://github.com/moddingg33k/android_kernel_y300_general/blob/master/ramdisk/synopsis/sbin/resize2fs_s
- accepting that this may permanently brick your phone
- being able to read & doing exactly what is written here
- courage!

Note1: I don't know if it's just my phone, but it spontaneously rebooted several times
while in CWM (idle, copying files in phone or between phone and PC).

Note2: I didn't check this guide. I just wrote it up after doing all this to my phone.

Step 1: Planning the partition layout

Boot the phone to recovery.
Run "adb shell" from command line
run: fdisk -H64 -S32 -l /dev/block/mmcblk0
to print the current partition table

The last lines are (I added the mount points on the right hand side)
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
[..]
/dev/block/mmcblk0p15            201         392      196608  83 Linux    -> /cache
/dev/block/mmcblk0p16            393         472       81920  83 Linux    -> /cust
/dev/block/mmcblk0p17            473         984      524288  83 Linux    -> /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p18            985        1624      655360  83 Linux    -> /data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p19           1625        3728     2154496  6b Unknown  -> /storage/sdcard0 ("internal SD card")

"mmcblk0" is the phone-internal flash, and the "pXX" suffix enumerates the partitions in this flash.

"Blocks" is in 1MB units. You can see /system is only 512MB

This is what we are going to do:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p15            202         649      458752  83 Linux    -> /cache
/dev/block/mmcblk0p16            650         659       10240  83 Linux    -> /cust
/dev/block/mmcblk0p17            660        1799     1167360  83 Linux    -> /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p18           1800        2799     1024000  83 Linux    -> /data
/dev/block/mmcblk0p19           2800        3728      951296  6b Unknown  -> /storage/sdcard0

Note 1:
Make sure that each new partition is big enough to hold the current content.
For p15-p18, you can use "resize2fs_s -P" (see step 3) to get the minimum required size.
For p19, mount the phone as USB storage, then check in Windows how full the internal SD drive is.

Note 2:
The partition layout is somewhat inconsitent/corrupt if the first few partitions.
To avoid problems from overlap, I chose to recreate /cache starting at 202, not 201.

Step 2: Preparation

Copy resize2fs_s to your external SD card root dir.

On phone (under mounts & storage), mount /storage/sdcard1 (your actual SD card) and unmount /cache.

Copy resize2fs_s to root partition & make it executable
run: cp /storage/sdcard1/resize2fs_s .
run: chmod a+x resize2fs_s

Step 3: Make a backup of all relevant EXT partitions

You need to do this step for all partitons you want to keep.
Other partiton content will be lost.
Suggestion:
- backup /data and /cust
- backup /system (unless you want to do a fresh ROM install after repartitioning AND don't need a fallback)
- skip /cache (just format them in CWM after repartitioning)
- skip /storage/sdcard0, this is a FAT partition and we need handle to handle this differently.

We're resizing the partitions now to make them smaller (example is p15 = /cache here):
run: ./resize2fs_s -P /dev/block/mmcblk0p15
This gives you the minimum partition size for mmcblk0p15 (=/cache)
"Estimated minimum size of the filesystem: 14170" (in 4KB blocks)

Now shrink to some size that is ~10% larger.
run: ./resize2fs_s /dev/block/mmcblk0p15 15000

Then copy to shrunk partition image to external SD card.
Partition p15 goes into a file "p15". Specify the copy size accordingly.
run: dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/storage/sdcard1/p15 bs=4K count=15000

Step 4: Make a backup of InternalSdCard FAT partition (/storage/sdcard0)

In CWM, select "mount USB storage".
On Windows, copy all files from internal SD card partition to some directory (e.g. "InternalSDcardBackup") on PC.
(You should first enable display of hidden files, in case there are some)
"Eject" both phone drives in Windows, then leave "mount USB storage" in CWM.
In CWM unmount all partitions except /storage/sdcard1.

Step 5: Change partition layout

run: fdisk -H64 -S32 /dev/block/mmcblk0

Delete all partitions to be changed:
(Enter d, then the partition number to delete)
do: d [enter] 19 [enter]
do: d [enter] 18 [enter]
do: d [enter] 17 [enter]
do: d [enter] 16 [enter]
do: d [enter] 15 [enter]

Create new partitions (automatically numbered in order):
(Enter n, then the start block number, then the end block number)
For the table above, it would be:
do: n [enter] 202  [enter]  649   (for p15 = /cache)
do: n [enter] 650  [enter]  659   (for p16 = /cust)
do: n [enter] 660  [enter] 1799   (for p17 = /system)
do: n [enter] 1800 [enter] 2799   (for p18 = /data)
do: n [enter] 2800 [enter] 3728   (for p19 = /storage/sdcard0)

Change partition type for p19 to "6b" (it was like this before, and recreating the partition changed it to 83):
do: t [enter] 19 [enter] 6b [enter]

Check that the new layout is what you want:
do: p [enter]

Write the new layout to flash:
In CWM, make sure all partitons except /storage/sdcard1 are unmounted, otherwise you'll get an error here.
do: w [enter]

All partitons are now it the right size, but without right content.

Step 6: Restore partition content.

In CWM, make sure all partitons except /storage/sdcard1 are unmounted.

For all EXT partitions you made a backup in step 3 (here for example p15 = /cache):
Copy shrunk backup back into new partition:
run: dd if=/storage/sdcard1/p15 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 bs=4K

Enlarge file system to full partition size:
run: ./resize2fs_s /dev/block/mmcblk0p15

Repeat step 6 for all EXT partiton you want to have restored.
For skipped partitons (except p19 = /storage/sdcard0), format the partition in CWM.

Step 7: Restore InternalSdCard FAT partiton
In CWM, go into USB storage mode.
On PC, format the InternalSdCard partition (default settings). Windows will ask for it by itself.
Copy files from InternalSDcardBackup to this empty partition.
Unmount phone drives in windows, then reboot phone from CWM.

	Hey, my sister gave my this phone and I've been flashing several roms since I first got it. I'm not sure about how much the battery life of this phone is but it doesn't last much in my case. How about yours? Which rom do you have on your huawei y300-100 and how's the battery life? I only use whatsapp, instagram, fb lite and messenger lite, that's all. I'd play videogames but not all the time since my battery seems to be damaged. Is it normal that in normal use the battery lasts around 1 hour? I don't think it is, but maybe ''since it's a smartphone''. Tell me about your experience with the battery life, I really need to know (I'm buying a new battery for this phone depending on your answers) Help.
