My joystick is dying :(

Recommended Posts

My joystick is dying :)

It periodically stops working downwards, if i push it really hard it works for a while then goes back to normal - i have to push it 3 or 4 times sometimes to go down. I was just wondering if this is a common problem (like dust on the 500!!!) because I'd like to get it replaced/fixed under warranty - I also assume this counts as a warranty issue?

Thanks

Mine does the same but on the UP, let me know if they agree to swap it and I may see they'll fix mine too..

Have to say it's bl**dy annoying...

send it back.

mine went on the down move on my joystick, and sent it free with orange phone repair at there shop.

they claimed that my case was the first, but that seems a bit untrue.

get the phone replaced because it will go completly, and you can only scroll the opposite way.

My joystick is failing too. I thought my handset CPU was being overloaded when some menu actions seemed to be slow to respond, then realised that it was a failing 'south' direction on my joystick. If I press quite firmly I can make it work but it is clearly faulty.

Mine's going too - it started with the "down" going, then "clicking" it started to fail, and now the "2" key is being tempramental.

When I get round to it I'm going to send it back to Orange, as it's clearly a handset fault.

My plan also, but as it seems like a design fault I am not too encouraged to return it if it is only to be replaced with another bad-by-design product, so I may wait for the maximum allowable time before returning it (provided it is manageably working) so that the unit is replaced by a unit that has properly addressed the design defect.

worth a try but I doubt it  :?:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I bought 2 c550's PAYG for me and the wife for Xmas. Mine is fine but my wife's has always had this fault. We bought cases and hers doesn't fit as well as mine and we thought it was the cut out for the joystick not allowing it to kove down. She took the case of but it still has this problem now and again. I rang Orange last night and explained the problem and the nice man has arranged for a replacement to be delivered today even though it was blatantly after the 14 day return period. He didn't seem shocked when I told him about the fault so I guess there are a few going back. Give them a call and they should replace it.

PS we live 15 miles south of John O Groats which makes next day delivery all the more impressive!!!!!

Exactly same problem. I bought it from the orange website about 2 months ago. Any chance of them doing anything now?

ps my c550 has been in a stream and it didnt do any damage at all. ;)

If I want replace another one, should I send my phone back first?

I have no Orange telephone number, so I can't call the Orange Customer Services.

(Customer Service on 150 from your Orange phone or 07973 100150 from any other phone.)

I had tried to ask the Orange shop in my town, the man seems just permit me to get it fixed.

1.Do everyone could tell me which number I should dial if I want to replace my c550?

2.How long is the deadline to replace the phone?

3.If they sent a new c550 to me, where should I return my old handset to? Bristol or the Orange shop in my town?

well,

woke up this morning and my joystick doesn't move down, left or select anything (push centre)

I have tried everything to get the thing to work but alas, no.

The fact that the main function of the joystick is to 'select' anything from text message contacts to menu selections means that the phone has become barely usable at all.

Has anybody managed to get a replacement from orange, and if so has the new handset got the same problems?

thanks

K

My wifes replacement phone arrived as promised the next day and (touch wood) has been perfect so far. My phone has so far avoided this problem so I guess your either lucky or not.

As I see it Orange should replace the phone up to a year after purchase as your statutory rights usually cover you for this period regardless of what Orange say. It was over a month after I receievd my phones that one went back so I guess if you shout loud enough then they will hear!

Paul

PS. If you shout the right words aswell then they give you a £20 credit aswell ;)

OK, so i called Orange at 8pm last night and explained the issue with the joystick.

The guy on the phone explained that the Orange warranty period is 6 mths and the manufacturers' is 12 month (although the phone needs to be sent to HTC). Luckily only got my phone 3 months ago, so it was covered by orange.

I was told to prep the phone by removing all contacts etc as i would need a replacement.

I was asked to hold onto everything except the handset itself (even the battery cover) and to give it to the person who delivered my new (not refirbished) phone at 9:15 this morning (i called at 8pm!!!).

So far so good, and i must admit i am a very happy orange customer today!!..

PS. Paul, i was prepared to shout the right words when i called but was so surprised by the co-operation and service offered that i forgot all about having to re-install all my apps, contacts, themes etc and was happy to just go with the flow.

Well done Orange UK.

Your contract is with the shop, not the manufacturer so they would be liable for the 12 months.

got my c550 back from being repaired t'other day and they put a whole new keypad in and got rid of a few specks of dust that crept in (only about 5). very pleased with the service, turnaround was 9 days.

my replacement handset has developed the same problem as before, only difference is i can make 'down' work by pressing pretty hard on the joystick.

called orange 5 mins ago.

Second replacement in one month being delivered tomorrow between 9 and 1

fingers crossed.

I'm a bit miffed, but i can't fault the service from orange at all.

i'd still recommend the handset for somebody who knows what its capable of.
