Hi All

My ideas for Smartphones will be:

-tell users about the different platforms wm2003/wm5 etc

-point people to understanding activesync, how Cab's work, etc

-a collection of "must have" tools

-how to get the homescreen that works for you, not just the flashy stuff

-basic xml code for beginners to customise their homescreens, plugins

-What gobbles your battery life, memory

-tips and tricks to make life easy using a SP

Surely the way forward with this (to avoid it becoming out of date daily) would be a generic intro to either a PPC or a Smartphone

I agree on that one... but split WM5 and WM2003 as there are little diferences that can lead to big problems (registry paths :)) and also programmes are becoming WM5 only (WM5torage, the upcoming Windows Live Messenger ;) )

Very useful apps that I wouldn't be without are:

Smartphone

1. QuickClose... Free app to clear all running programs with one key-press

2. QuickReset... Free app to soft-reset phone and restart it, using speed-dial

Link...to both the above

3. SmartScroll... Free app to greatly improve surfing on phone

4. Bluetooth Toggle... Free app, part of SmartTweaker demo, easy way of turning BT ON/Off

Link...to both the above

PPC

1. USBKiller... Free app that switches USB connection to pc from RNDIS to Serial, removing Active-Sync connection problems completely! (in my experience, at least!)

Link...

No expense spared in my choices, you'll note! ;)

EDIT: Added Links + Amended text ARGH! :)

specifically for PPC devices I know, but the excellent PPCProfiles fills a glaring omission in the OS.

That would only be the case for WM2003 or WM2003SE. PPCProfiles doesn't play very nicely with WM5 - I tried several times, and then was informed by the author that WM5 isn't supported (and I presume there are no plans to).

If you're going to go down the eBook route, then instructions on how to setup MS Reader or a decent eBook reader on WM5 ?

I think I'd stay away from MS Reader at this point. Everything I've read so far seems to indicate that MS has all but given up on that product (along with Microsoft Pocket Money :))...

Do numbers 3 and 4 have the same link then? Makes sense now. Sorry, it wasn't obvious from the post. :-(

I'm still getting over Operamini. It's so fast and uses so little data yet I can view pretty much any site. And its free. Apparently Orange are trialling it - partner just got a text about it, but I don't know the details.
