Guest Mysterious Stranger
Bargain indeed!!! P Yep. Add 4 x 500gb sata drives @ £40 ea from ebuyer - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141471, raid it up, whack in 8gb ram and you've got a perfect Hyper-V server for £350 ish. p.s to make clear it comes with no O.S but Server 2008's 120 day or 60 day demos can be 're-armed'...... Guest Mysterious Stranger
According to HP website.. No Hardware virtualisation on the 115.. so no Hyper-V... http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache...-0-0-0-121.html  Don't believe the website spec sheet! I have Hyper-V running fine on the previous offer model dual-core opteron G5 ml115 (£115 w/delivery but no free card) with no issues. The unit mentioned is the same board with a quad core processor. citystink decided not to bother even trying a delivery today but when it arrives tomorrow I'll install it and report back. A google search will show others who have got it running too ( some with a little tweaking needed)... I think HP are just covering their asses so they don't have to provide support for people with issues on a £100 ex vat server.... M.S edit - a review of hyper-v installed on an ml115 : http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Virtualization/Re...e-Comes-HyperV/ "I installed Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V on an HP ProLiant ML115 server with an AMD Athlon dual-core 4450 B processor. The server was equipped with 4GB of RAM and a single 1GB NIC (network interface card). Hyper-V is treated in Windows Server 2008 as a server role, but since the version of Hyper-V that shipped with Server 2008 RTM was a beta, I had to download the updated Hyper-V code from Microsoft's Web site." Guest Mysterious Stranger
Argh.. now i have to uncancel! Thanks for the feedback! Will 'Tis slightly ( coupla quid) cheaper elsewhere. http://www.probsolvexpress.com/compare.asp...no=480570%2D035 From the looks of things they are selling from the same stock though as the numbers left are suspiciously similar....also factor in the delivery cost. Not all the suppliers also stock the card and emphasise that you want both or nothing as you can't buy the card elsewhere and claim - you must make sure the card is on the *same invoice* or HP will reject the claim. Still having major delivery hassles from city stink. They bought Target Couriers and I think they aren't integrating too well being referred to as 'network one' or 'network two' - My 'before 9am upgrade' due to them not even attempting delivery yesterday still ain't here.... Guest deadphill
Hi Guys Just wondering what you guys intend using these for? Is it geeky stuff or is there a real good reason you have for using one of these?! Cheers Phill
Guest Mysterious Stranger
Hi Guys Just wondering what you guys intend using these for? Is it geeky stuff or is there a real good reason you have for using one of these?! Cheers Phill Personnally I will be doing geeky stuff using Hyper-Virtualization.... If you're at all interested in microsoft server type stuff it's a usefull test bed to play about with as you can have a virtual network of many machines running on one box. It'll also run vmware pretty well.... ....but it would also make a good, cheap, 3-yr warrantied desktop PC if you installed a decent graphics card. And some ram. It's quite small too but a little noisey at boot until the fans throttle back. M.S

Guest sjwk
Offer closed, back up to £324.75 inc vat. Shame. Could have used another! M.S Out of interest, did anyone get one of these and get the refund for the lights out card? One of my friends got both but then HP refused the rebate, claiming that you had to buy the server at full price to qualify, not at the reduced price. Which sounds a bit of a con to me, unless you really wanted the lights out card anyway... Steve.

They cannot add small print after the event. Be firm but polite and they will come around to your way of thinking... They tried to reject my claim for my most recent server/card as I had only included a print out of the online order invoice and the delivery note as the reseller hadn't included an invoice with the price on - it was dropshipped directly from HP - and 'electronic invoices are not acceptable' apparently.... However 2 phonecalls later and I forwarded them a PDF of the very same document created by the reseller and all is OK...... They are most likely paid a bonus for however many claims they reject so will possibly try any excuse however implausable.... Out-bound.co.uk 0118 976 9310 Edit - just checked my 'spam' email address I give to companies like these - after chasing and emailing the pdf yesterday at around 4.30pm I have received email confirmation the rebate cheque has been despatched today at approx 3pm - and I paid the cheapo prices. Claims have to be in by end of the month btw. HTH. M.S Edited January 15, 2009 by Mysterious Stranger
