Sorry for one of the constant 'V.s' threads but I really can't make my mind up between the 2...

HTC Touch Diamond 2 Pros:

Defiantly getting an official 6.5 upgrade and there is lots of rom support

Available now on contract (I don't want sim free)

Very positive reviews meant to be quite snappy.

I had a bad experience with the first omnia (which I then sent back)

Samsung Omnia 2 Pros:

Bigger screen for easier typing

Faster processor so better video playback?

Better battery life

Better cameras

Your opinions would be welcome please, especially if you have used both.

OmniaII I8000 vs Diamond2 comparison

Omnia II over Diamond2 :

Larger and better 3.7 AMOLED screen

better CPU 800 MHz on OmniaII vs Qualcomm 528 MHz on Diamond2

Camera 5 megapixel with dual LED flash vs no flash on Diamond2

Very good battery life (1500 MAh) on Omnia 2 and due to the AMOLED screen (energy saver) vs Diamond2 battery (1100 mAh) which sucks

TV-out on OmniaII vs Diamond lacks that

Excellent video playback performance on OmniaII vs poor video playback on Diamond2 due to Qualcomm MSM7200A and drivers issues

standard 3.5mm audio jack for OmniaII vs Diamond2 lacks that

microUSB charging port on OmniaII which is the standard phone charging port in Europe now vs miniusb on Diamond2

Diamond2 over OmniaII:

Diamond2 is more pocketable due to smaller dimensions

** TouchFLO 3D UI on Diamond2 is better than TouchWiz 2.0 UI on Omnia2 which is laggy somehow

Diamond2 has a nicer design than OmniaII (in my opinion)

Internal slot for stylus on Diamond2 vs no slot for a stylus on OmniaII

Better community support for Diamond2 due to xda-developer

** you can install PointUI , Spb Mobile Shell 3.0 or other available UI on OmniaII instead of Touchwiz UI and maybe the touchflo 3D will be ported to OmniaII in future

Hope from this comparison you will find the winner ?

Another very good feature of OmniaII The Alarm auto power-up which sets the device to automatically turn on and sound the alarm at the designated time if the device is turned off

I don't think this feature available in any WM phone... Remind me of my old Nokia :)

Great topic, was wanting to start this one since i will be in the market in the next few months for the latest and greatest.

--Even though the responses may be a bit biased being on the i8000 thread, i want to know what made some people go for the omnia instead of the diamond.

--i keep going back and forth on the two. depends on if i see a video on one-then that's the one i'm in to.

-aside from the processor and screen differences, it's the UI and navigation throughout the phone that pushes me more toward the diamond. i really wish samsung went further on this.

someone correct me on this if i am in the wrong, but their contact management, sms, mms, etc. is really great. how is the omnia in this area? i also would like the option to use TF3D or 6.5 at the drop of a hat. now, i know that may be ported to the omnia, but i have it right now on my omnia 1 and it's not perfect. i would like a stock, non-buggy version.

In a nutshell, I looked at HTC Touch Diamond2, HTC Touch Pro2 and Omnia II for a long time and then decided that my next phone will be either Omnia II or Omnia Pro because I want a decent camera and decent battery life in one phone (with HTC it seems to be always one or the other) and a fast processor. The advantages that Touch Diamond2 has over Omnia II are mostly cosmetic (e.g. slick UI) and, as with Omnia I, you can work around them. It would be nice if you didn't have to, but sadly handset manufacturers seem to be incapable of producing such a thing as "the perfect phone" and from what I can see so far Omnia II is a huge improvement over Omnia I (which I chose over Touch Diamond1 and Touch Pro1, for the same reasons) in almost every aspect.

After long reading your reply, the last conclusion was a bull eye.

You can read my very long OMNIA-2 review + multiple benchmarks here,

My 850 Mhz long review +multiple benchmarks

in Traditinal Chinese though, think you can at least see some benchmark numbers for comparison.

New dilema:

-Verizon's diamond 2 is a version based off the htc touch hd and has a 3.6 inch screen. didn't expect this. haven't compared anything else though. this may turn the tide a little for those with verizon.

First post here ;) ...supppa newbie :)

back to topic,

im glad that no one talked about any difference in the device builds.

HTC has been making pda's for ages and the pro II and diamond II are among the best they made. if the Omnia II matches these, wow !

Too bad HTC as of today can "only" send the Diamond 2 in the ring, since they are so way behind their initially planned release schedule. They saw the Omnia II coming, but are still working on the upcoming HTC Touch HD Pro, confirmed by Microsoft, with the release planned just a little under a year after the release of the original HD. Advantage will be that it can start with WM 6.5 and Manila/Touchflo 2.5 right out of the box.

I was able to get my hands on an Omnia II but I didn't like it that much. I still prefer my i900. Somehow, I'm leaning more towards the Diamond2 right now or maybe it's just me wanting a change of pace again. TouchWiz 2.0 is just a bit laggy for me but as what with the others say, hardware wise, I think the Omnia II is much better than the Diamond2. Maybe windows 6.5 would improve the Omnia II more but until then, I might be purchasing my diamond2 within the next few weeks and then upgrade once the B7610 comes around (with winmo 6.5 of course).

i havent tried the omnia ii but i've used the diamond for some time now and i find it very very smooth in terms of performance and ui + touchflo3d 2 is quite attractive and covers up wm more than omnia ii would. the diamond2's size is perfect for my liking and still does videos and all that perfectly, its only drawback is the lack of flash.

+1 on the diamond2

Errrm. You said you have not tried the Omnia II yet but claimed that Touchflow3D covers more of the WinMo interface than TouchWiz 2.0?

@amahfouz - I think that touchwiz 2.0 covers more winmo than touchflo 3d, although I haven't been able to get a hands-on on the diamond2 but other reviews I've seen says touchwiz 2.0 does a better job of covering up winmo than touchflo 3d. However, I think that's one of the things that turned me off the Omnia II in the first place, it just covers up too much winmo to the point that it's EXACTLY like the Samsung Jet. I wish they've used a different graphical UI on the Touchwiz 2.0 on the Omnia II

If the AMOLED screen (and consequently battery life) are very important to you... it's Omnia II. software/ROMs will come and go, this is something you cannot replace. For me, that's likely going to be the deciding factor. The debate of TouchWiz vs. TouchFlo 3D... it's a matter of preference. Both are very good, but quite different. The whole debate here is too subjective. That said... Wait until Manila 2.5 (next version of TouchFlo) is stable, it will make it to cooked ROMs, and then you'll get your choice. Personally, I like the cooked ROMs for the Touch Diamond 2/Topaz (see xda-developers.com). There are some really good ones. Back to the point... HW is the boss, SW can be replaced... in time :) Unless you are comparing stock-to-stock. And Omnia here wins hands down. Sceen, battery, video, camera. 'Nuff said.

OmniaII I8000 vs Diamond2 comparison

Omnia II over Diamond2 :

Very good battery life (1500 MAh) on Omnia 2 and due to the AMOLED screen (energy saver) vs Diamond2 battery (1100 mAh) which sucks

microUSB charging port on OmniaII which is the standard phone charging port in Europe now vs miniusb on Diamond2

Good comparison and I agree with most of the point except those two above.

I get two days of battery life out of my Diamond 2 with moderate use and towards the evening on the second day I usually have 10-20% left. I say this is quite good for a smartphone and as comparison I had to charge my Diamond every day to be sure. Maybe the Omnia II is even better, but battery life on Diamond 2 does NOT suck IMO. On the contrary. :)

Also, a microUSB plug fits right in the HTC so-called "miniUSB" jack and works for both charging and syncing.

I'd also like to add another point in favor of the Omnia II. The bigger screen and TouchWiz is more finger-friendly than TF3D on the 3.2" screen of Diamond 2. Just comparing between Touch HD and Diamond 2 is a big difference in finger-friendlyness with the same UI, and the Omnia II is almost like the HD in size.

Actually, a comparison between the Touch HD and Omnia II would interest me much more - they are more similar than Omnia II and Diamond 2.
