downloading 'boot.img' ...
How long it will take? I wait ower 30 minutes and nothing change. When I push back button on my hero i get
downloading 'boot.img'... FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
On my hero I get 2 options:
<BACK> FastBoot Mode

First of all tell me what's the build no. Of your phone, It is there in 'Settings - About Phone'

If it is something like this 2.73.xxx.x then go here

theunlockr.com/2009/10/18/how-to-downgrade-your-htc-hero-so-it-can-be-rooted/

If it is something like this 1.76.xxx.x then go here

http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-root-your-htc-hero-in-one-click/

This is the first step to De-brand your T-Mobile phone (Install a Custom Recovery Image)

My built is 2.73.xxx.x

when Im trying to downgrade to 1.76.xxx.x using 1.76.110.6RUU I got:

error[131]:customer ID error

can nybody help?

I made new goldcard as well but still no luck

I did use following RUU's:

273.405.5

1.76.405.1

None of them worked for me and I still got error:

error[131]:customer ID error

My specs:

T-mobile G2 Touch

Build no: 2.73.110.26 CL#69351 release-keys

Software ver. 1.0.0A6288

HBOOT: 1.76.0007 (HERO 10000)

What else should I do to get it rooted???

Ok. So I made new goldcard again (2GB SanDisc) and did try to downgrade to RUU 1.76.405.1 with no luck.

Next I tried RUU 2.73.405.5 and managed to install generic ROM with no T-mobile crap.

I wasn't able to get root access using this guide so I went for flashrec method:

http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-ro...o-in-one-click/

and now I have nice rooted Hero with Modaco custom ROM for my Missus.

............I'll stick to desire :P

This guide is for 1.xxx.xxx ROM numbers. Follow this guide to root yours: www.roothtchero.co.uk

I wrote that guide for total n00bs so you should be able to follow it no problem. And you don't need adb like theunlockr one! :D

Hi there,

I have image 1.2.2 installed on my Hero. How can I update to image 1.6.2?

If you're talking about the recovery image, download a free app called 'ROM Manager' and at the bottom of the menu tap 'Flash Amon Ra Recovery' and that will download & flash it for you.

Hi,

How can I make a dump of my recovery before flashing it ?

I tried this :

adb shell reboot bootloader

fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img

adb shell mount /sdcard

adb shell dump_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-hero.orig.img

adb pull /sdcard/recovery-hero.orig.img

But the resulting dump file (5M) is bigger than the patched file (3,8M). I downloaded an unpatched recovery file (3,5M) but the source is not safe (as Modaco ^^).

Any ideas please ?

Thanks !

Try this thread from xda. From what I recall when this came up previously, there was a bug in the old nandroid backup code which could lead to some sort of corruption of misc. Iirc the solution was to flash a copy of misc from before then. If necessary, one can lift a usable copy from a suitable stock ROM. E&OE.

Sounds like you can't load the recovery img yet just like the new t-mobile Rom over here in the u.k.

So, I have the same problem - is there a solution? I am desperate to root my G2, so that I can tether my wi-fi... Please help!!!

Just Install an official HTC RUU(ROM Upgrade Utility), Download it from HTC Support
