When I try to install an application from the market it says: Insufficient space etc. I have flashed the rom and set up my memory card with SWAP=0 EXT3=1024MB and the rest for normal usage. I'm having the same problem. -Rooted a Telstra 8183 w/Modaco root method. -Used the rooted 1.21.xxx here - 3 O'Clock Version -Wireless Tether works awesome, but the Market will not let me install any apps. I get the same "insufficient space" error msg. I have about 138MB on the phone, and 1GB on SD Card of free space, as per my settings->SD Card readout. -I have tried multiple SD cards, wiped the phone, re-booted, re-logged in to market place - I am not using APP2SD at all, and don't really intend to. Guest oclock Posted June 10, 2010 Report Share Posted June 10, 2010 Hi, as promised I tried to reproduce the error with my device: I started recovery and flashed a few times in a row "3 oclock am", then I flashed stock 1.21 and again "3 oclock am". I do not get any errors (no error in line 3). Then I booted the phone and installed 3 random apps from the market. Again: No problems on my device (no "no insufficient space" error). Lollylost100: You wrote that you got problems after you installed A2SD. Can you please try only my rom, without A2SD. Before you flash, uninstall A2SD and do a 'factory reset', please. onthego & Lollylost100 and everyone else with the mentioned problems: Please use the command "adb shell" to connect to your phone. Then enter the following commands: >su >ls -l >/sdcard/root.txt >cd data >ls -l >/sdcard/data.txt >df >/sdcard/df.txt Please post all three textfiles here together with a short description of your problem ("line-3 error", "insufficient space"). Sorry that I do not have better news for you, but I cannot fix problems that I do not understand completely. Idea regarding line-3 error: This problem could arise, if you have A2SD installed (and only then). During update the sdcard partitions are not mounted and thus /data/app is a dead symlink and then the update process throws probably an error, if it tries to copy something to this folder. Solution: 1. I do not install android.tether in /data/app, but in /system/app. But then you cannot update it easily. 2. I do not install android.tether at all, but let it up to you, to do it manually. 3. I let it up to the user to uninstall/undo A2SD before installing my ROM, because I do not officially support it. I have currently no idea why you get 'insufficient space' errors. On my device and many others this ROM works without problems. Here I need your help, if you want that we sort out this problem. I have preformed a nandroid backup for any case. I just wonder if I can restore this rootedupdate.zip with the fake-flash. Let's say it worked, will I be able to restore the nandriod backup after installing this new rom? Is the fake-flash workoing with this new rom? I had the same error (with and without installed A2SD)! But I solved it (but don't know how and why :) ...) : 1) copy the 3 o'clock and a2sd zip files on sdcard 2) recovery mode 3) wipe 4) install 3 o'clock 5) install a2sd 6) partition sdcard (256mb swap, 1024mb, rest) 7) reboot phone 8) phone booted "normal" and everything worked like before... Thanks again, hope this is helpful. data.txt is empty, because you forgot to call "su" at the beginning to gain superuser rights. Maybe you could do it again. I've made a new A2SD++ (yes, 2 ++ not 1 +) Patch with the following features: Kernel base: richardtrip's UVOC v14 (or v11 if you experience issues) Kernel, with modified RAMDISK image by me to get A2SD working. Items moved to SD: /data/app /data/app-private /data/dalvik-cache I've also patched it so any SWAP partition you have created during partitioning of your SDCard is utilised. Previous A2SD Setups (and SWAP usage) on Stock ROM never worked. It does now! Download links: *PLEASE NOTE* Make sure you download the CORRECT PATCH FOR THE CORRECT ROM! The ROM was changed on 8th June, to include BusyBox. Just to be sure and that we talk about exactly the same. You should have done the following: adb shell > su -> Now you should be root. If not, please try the following and tell me what you get: adb shell > ls -l /system/xbin >/sdcard/xbin.txt There should be an entry "su" with permissions 4755 or rwsr-xr-x ("s" is important!). "s" is set, which means that the su-program has superuser rights. "x" is also set for everyone, so that everyone is allowed to execute "su". If you call it, you should be root. It works on my device and on others, too. I see no reasons, how you can get a "permission denied". Strange, strange. And you proofed that it works by using wifi tether ... Something prevents you from becoming root in an "adb shell"... You could try to install a terminal emulator from the market and call "su" directly on your device. Another option is to install "root explorer". This is a file browser with root permissions. Any ideas are welcome... there *must* be an explanation for this phenomena! UPDATE: I have a possible solution, because now I remember that it also happened to me, when I first started "su" weeks ago :-) Do the following: adb shell > su -> Now look at the screen of your phone. Superuser should popup asking for permission ... If you dont answer this quickly, then you will get "permission denied". This could be the reason why nothing can be installed anymore. Try the following: adb shell > su > chown system.system /data/app > chmod 771 /data/app This will hopefully fix your market problem. More importantly though, why did it happen and what can be done to sort it out? I don't want to use A2SD at the moment so this works best. Another concern is the startup sound and a problem i occasionally have where when a call is picked up the microphone takes time to activate. Thanks oC for your efforts!
