I was going to put it on eBay with a BIN of £350! :-D

very funny...

how is the display doing ?

is it as weak as the toshiba folio or the wetab ??

can anybody of you having the advent vega do a chess-benchmark ?

we could get very important information how fast the CPU is in relation to other

hardware or other operating systems because this chess program runs

under windows and under ipad and mobile phones etc.

download droidfish for free at:

http://web.comhem.se/petero2home/droidfish/

change the file name from *.apk.bin into *.apk as told on the website.

put it on the pad and install it by starting the *.apk file in a browser/explorer such as astro.

go into game mode and setup analysis. go back to the chess board and

wait arround 2' and report the value behind NPS:

to give you reference values:

on my android 2.2 HTC HD2 droidfish runs ~100.000 NPS.

on my APAD rockchip 600 mhz android 1.5 it is doing ~10.000 NPS.

on my windows PC with Intel T7600 2x 2.33 Ghz running 1 core, the engine

stockfish (thats the engine in droidfish) is doing ~1.000.000 NPS !

i have also results for Palm Pre under Webos (500 or 1 GHz speed) if you

are interested.

The clue about this chess program is, that it is available for free for several

hardware/software/operating-system combinations.

so we can really relate the different NPS values.

please give me the nps-values from the advent vega !

thanks.

here you can see a picture of the chess program in analysis mode and the NPS values

we need as benchmark when the program runs 2 minutes.

fish02.png

NPS means "nodes per second" and is the amount of positions the computer

generates/evaluates in one second. we wait 2 minutes to get a stable value

(the value changes much in the first seconds...).

the higher the NPS value, the faster the CPU is.

this is a NON graphical benchmark. it really shows how fast the CPU and the

memory is doing.

we can relate the NPS of the engine running on a pc, on mobiles,

on the ipad, on archos101, on other tablet-pcs by doing this

benchmark. and... as a side effect, you have a nice chess program

for your pad installed :-)

I used the version from the Android market on my Samsung Galaxy Tab, and after a couple of minutes the figure's around 108,500 NPS (though after running DroCap in the background, this seems to drop a little to 106k NPS, see attached file)

Any use to you?

I'm getting value of around 131700.

was this number on the advent vega (tegra2) pad ???

can you confirm ?

if this is true we would have the following overview:

  1. droidfish aka stockfish on:

    Palm Pre 500mhz (Webos1.4.5): ~8.000 NPS
    APAD Rockchip 600mhz (android1.5): ~10.000 NPS
    Palm Pre oc. 800mhz (Webos1.4.5): ~13.000 NPS
    ZT-180 10,2" Pad : ~15.345 NPS
    Palm Pre oc. 1Ghz (Webos1.4.5): ~16.000 NPS
    Iphone4 1 Ghz: ~75.000 NPS
    HTC HD2 with 1Ghz (android2.2): ~100.000 NPS
    Samsung Galaxy Tab ~108,500 NPS
    Advent vega tegra2 1Ghz (android2.2): ~131.700 NPS

    Laptop T7600 2.2Ghz 1 core, windows: 1.000.000 NPS

If the app you're testing with is multithreaded and able to take full advantage of the two cores on the Vege that number looks plausible.
