HTC Sense Alternative

Hi there,

My question is, if I take out the HTC Sense from the baking of the r5 ROM, how do I include an alternative in the build?

and what are some good alternatives?

there are a few alternatives but the most powerful is LauncherPro. you can opt out Sense in r5 kitchen but don't forget to upload LauncherPro to it.

or you can do it the other way (as i did):

1. flash r5 with Sense

2. install LauncherPro from Market (carefully read the instructions there about switching those two)

3. switch from Sense to LauncherPro

4. manually delete Sense files, there aren't many (if you don't do that Sense will be running in the background and eating your resources)

yes it's really nice to use and feature rich. and it's certainly not more resource hungry than sense. there are also lighter launchers around but they're not so feature rich. don't forget that without sense you also loose all htc widgets and launcherpro (a "plus" version) has some really good alternatives.

first DO A NANDROID BACKUP, then go to /system/app/ and delete:

Rosie.apk

htcbookmarkwidget.apk

htccalendarwidgets.apk

htccontactwidgets.apk

htcmailwidgets.apk

htcmsgwidgets.apk

htcsearchwidgets.apk

htcsettingwidgets.apk

EDIT: you can do that with Root Explorer (or some similar app) or via console.

thanks for the help, I have launcherpro running now, it seems pretty good so far, I deleted Rosie/Sense using your method and it seems to have done the trick, I will report back in a couple of days. B)

Personally, I prefer ADW.Launcher.
