Would you replace like with like ?

Recommended Posts

I had my SF for just over 7 weeks, it was my first android phone and I quickly became an addict.

I no longer have it. I am not sure if it was through my own negligence, or the result of light fingers, but somebody else was using the phone to make calls today.

I want to buy a replacement but thought I'd ask for advice first.

1) If I had a budget of £150ish PAYG, should I buy a straight replacement SF, or would a Galaxy Apollo / HTC Wildfire be better?

2) My original SF was an OLED screen - I am led to believe that these are less common now, and I'd likely get a TFT - is the difference appreciable?

Thanks for any opinions

+1 ^ ^ It would be nice if there were a few good deals around for a change :D

there are some interesting handsets rumoured, sony ericssons arc and neo look good, tho never had a SE before :P

the new Galaxy s..htc keeping quiet about theirs lol

I'm wondering about Nokia's imminent announcement to use WP7 os..not quite sure about that. I don't like the way Apple ties you to Itunes for file transfer etc., I think WP7 ties you to Zune? anyway..i digress..

God the wildfires shite. I went from a wildfire to an OSF - going the other way could jeopardise your sanity! It can be painfully slow, runs very few games and has a simply awefull screen.

I guess it's based on taste though. The Wildfire does look and feel better than the OSF in my opinion.

I was actually gonna buy the wildfire until my friend told me how laggy his was. I saw the OSF on a youtube vid and bought it next day. No regrets other than the problems with it being unrecognized by O2, oh and the sms problem, android's fault :P :D the actual handset has been awesome

A friend visited me from America at the weekend. He has the highest end Samsung Galaxy S with stock 2.2.1 rom. And he wanted to swap me for my customised Blade lol! He genuinely thinks the rom guys around here have made the Blade more responsive than Samsung have his phone! He was amazed at how much faster the facebook app is on a blade. The samsung touch sensitive home and back buttons are awesome though - ZTE should have done that. :P

Don't get me wrong, his phone quadrants 3 times what mine does so it's sure going to do games better. But he thinks the UI is smoother on the blade. Guess he needs a custom rom too!

well. the OSF was my first android phone and i did like it. the main problem i had was touchscreen reliability (failed/failing on all 3 i bought).

i decided i wanted a reliable phone and bought a desire z (wanted a physical keyboard).

well, i can tell you there's a big difference in the software. i'm not a big fan of Sense UI, but i found a lot of the framework hack/fixes i was working on for the OSF were already fixed in the HTC software. the wifi also works perfectly, connecting when it wakes up from sleep.

to me, android is a very 'rough' product. it's premature to even talk about 'polishing' the UI since google haven't got even some of the basic details right. i can see that HTC and others are fixing these, but i'm surprised that google and putting fixes into their core product as the best result for them would be to have a final product that manufacturers can load as-is onto their machines to get the widest android deployment possible.

+1 for the Desire Z.

Mrs F has one because she wanted a real keyboard. It really is a beautiful phone and a whole world more responsive than the Blade. The screen also seems to track finger input with far more accuracy than my Blade ever has. Having said that, it's more than 3 times the price I paid for my Blade so it should be good!

Never had one issue with O2

SMS solved days ago, MMS no idea.

Never had to set up my network and if you're complaining about the name "Telefonica" then you're lacking some knowledge. :P

Oh and don't get a wildfire, Desire would be an upgrade to a OSF.
