JGM Software GingerFLB

Some of you may have used some of my themes to give a Gingerbread look on your phone, and now for ease I have combined them all with a ROM for a simple and one flash solution. The ROM used as a base is FLB r11b (the final/most up to date version) by Flibblesan. Nothing has been changed at a low level, but apps and theming have been improved along with a couple of set up tips to make it nice and speedy. This ROM is both Gen1 and Gen2, make sure you pick the right download. If you are having issues, see the post below this one before posting. Remember to backup apps and take a Nandroid backup first. I know a lot of the interest at the moment is for Gingerbread ROMs, but I think there's definitely still a market for good, stable Froyo ROMs. Especially if they look like Gingerbread...

post-843502-1306431237_thumb.pngpost-843502-1306432819_thumb.png post-843502-1308596036_thumb.pngpost-843502-1308596042_thumb.png

Why did you use FLB as a base? Isn't it "discontinued"?

The reason I used FLB is because I have found FLB to be the most stable and efficient ROM, in my opinion. Although based on an older build of Froyo, FLB provides speedy Wi-Fi, excellent battery life, and an extremely fast and accurate GPS signal.

What should I use this ROM as opposed to the newer Swedish Spring or CyanogenMod 7?

Put simply, stability and aesthetics. This combines the speed, reliability and stability of flibblesan's FLB, with the aesthetically pleasing new look for Android introduced along with 2.3. Whether you just want a fast and efficient ROM or are setting up a Blade for a family member, I have, personally, found that FLB just works.

Are there any major bugs?

Aside from some bugs with root functionality and the standard Wi-Fi disconnect issue (this is improved through the addition of the Blade Wi-Fi fix app), there are no major caveats. The root functionality bug means that some root apps don't launch properly and just leave you with a black screen. This can be solved by using Task Manager to kill the app, or rebooting. EDIT: The original developer of FLB, flibblesan, has provided me with files to hopefully fix the root issue. This should hopefully all be sorted out in Version 2 of the ROM.

So are you continuing on where flibblesan left off? Is this FLB r12?

No. This is based on FLB r11b, and I am primarily a theme developer, but with an interest in creating my own custom ROMs. I really like FLB and it is an excellent piece of code, all credit here to flibblesan.

What else is included in JGM Software GingerFLB?

-Launcher Pro

-Browser with Gingerbread launcher icon

-Gingerbread themed contacts

-Gingerbread dialer

-Gingerbread GMail, gives you the Gingerbread notification icon as opposed to the Froyo one

-Gingerbread Settings, including Gingerbread icons for the Power Control Widget

-JGM Software Gingerbread theme

-Auto Killer Memory Optimizer (Conflicts? Choose the preset "System Default")

-Blade Wi-Fi fix (removed in V2 due to conflicts with other apps for some people, available here.)

-Includes Power Control Widget in notification bar. This can be removed by flashing the appropriate theme from the JGM Software Gingerbread Themes thread. (Removed in V2 as a result of theme change, will bring it back when I have time!)

-Nexus S Boot animation

Notes

-Set Transition Animations and Window Animations to "Fast" in Spare Parts to improve responsiveness.

-Set either the "Agressive" or "Ultimate" presets in Autokiller to increase the amount of free RAM. Usually I have around 200MB free through daily use. It's a light ROM.

-Download the Launcher Pro Icon Pack to get the full Gingerbread look. There are 2 custom dock backgrounds and the Gingerbread icons you need for a dock like the one shown.

-This ROM can be further customised by flashing the JGMS Gingerbread themes to achieve different battery styles.

-If you're currently on FLB 9 or above, this does not require a wipe, so you can install and keep all your apps and data. If you're coming from another ROM, you'll need to wipe

-Remember to pick the right ROM depending on if you have a GEN1 or GEN2 phone.

-In the lockscreen screenshot, I have changed the font of the clock. The font is called Segoe UI and a tutorial on how to do it is available here.

Troubleshooting

-Having root issues?

-A fix for this will be implemented in V2 of the ROM, coming soon

-Having problems downloading apps from the Market on a GEN2 phone?

-This is because the method you used to convert your phone to GEN2 makes the cache partition too small. Instead of all the hassle of repartitioning, flash this file in Clockwork to push downloads to a temp folder instead of the cache partition.

--Added all standard Froyo wallpapers as a separate download, plus some beautiful HDR images which Trey Ratcliffe is kindly letting me use.

--Updated all apps to latest versions

--Completely re-written Gingerbread theme; now looks a lot better.

--GEN2 Version now uses burstlam's boot.img, a lot more effective, with new features such as overclocking. No-Frills CPU Control added to GEN2 ROM.

Looks nice! :P Though maybe you need to add a few more things (eg a pre-themed launcherpro as launcher) to convince people to switch

Oh, and you might want to say its for Gen1/gen2 aswell <_< (though I can assume its a gen1 :(, other may not)

Good thinking, done :P

How would I go about pre-themeing Launcher Pro? Although tbh hardly anything is required, its just an optional dock background really

are you serious? read the first post man..

I have read the first post and I have also read the post where even Flibblesan recommends using SS over his rom.

Why FLB and not SS ?

As I explained in the OP, i feel that FLB is a faster and more responsive ROM than SS. I know it's from an older leak but I think the battery life is excellent, the GPS is extremely fast to get a fix etc.

This is just my opinion, I have used FLB for a very long time, and I just liked how it all worked. :P

That's true. Maybe SS is better in terms of features, I just prefer FLB for day to day usage :P

Fair enough.

Just personal opinion, I'm not having a go or anything mate

I too, prefer FLB :P

and about launcherpro: don't ask me how you'd do it, (push some /data/ as well as /system/?)

Well if its Gingerbread grab a nice green wallpaper, some snazzy dock and (possibly green) icons, to give it a more "ready out of the box" appeal.

Eg: here is my homescreen: its a bit "bleak" for most, though, and, its blue, but of course, visit the homescreen thread and you'll get some ideas

Yeah I'd be interested to know how I can do that. As you can see I've put the launcher pro icon pack I made up for download as well, but users have to apply it themselves atm. Perhaps data, maybe.

Yes, just undergoing some final testing before I release it, should be up for download by tomorrow evening. Assuming Warner Bros have no problem with my ROM, as they have taken great offence to several of my theme files and they've been taken off MediaFire on copyright infringement grounds. Absolutely ridiculous, I'm still furious at the way it was handled. Off topic now, sorry :(

What did they have against them!?

And I'll have a nose around /data/ for you in a minute for you, see if I can find anything obvious :P

EDIT:

/data/data/com.fede.luncher/

I assume that the contents of that directory are your homescreen and settings.

By creating the "themed" *all the icons, settings, etc* version, and then copying those files into your ROM, you should also have a home screen too <_< (if that makes any sense to you)

Oh, and I assume this because the files are the same name/layout as the contents of /sdcard/launcherpro_backup/

Well from the email, I'm being accused of basically ripping off every Warner Bros film ever made.

Yes, I'd think we could work it out based on what files are backed up when you save your homescreen setup. Thanks for that

Ist checked on my blade with a little test, those are indeed the files you need to use for a pre-set up launcherpro. I did this by pushing the contents of an old backup to that location and rebooting launcherpro. And now I have my old setup as default/layout.

So all you really need to do is create something that is Aimed at all users/most users with appropriate green theming and desired Widgets, icons, etc, and then use the contents of that folder in /data/ or /launcherpro_backup if you make a backup of your current configeration in lp) and put those in data/data/com.fede.launcher/ of your ROM's zip file

I'll see, I'd like to view exactly whats in those files before I upload stuff from my data partition O.o :P

Because of CM7 going Gen2 only many of us have migrated our phones to Gen2. Can anyone help Mr Gibbon bundle this as a Gen1 & Gen2 ROM pack?

Thanks for the ROM....looks good and I agree with you using FBL :P

Coincidentally I had reserved this morning to install FLB - only to find this thread. It seems like I will be better waiting for this ROM instead. When (approx) were you thinking of putting the ROM up for download? Thanks!

Or you can just go ahead and install FLB and then simply install one of the Frankish themes for it which is pretty much what this is.

It seems there is a demand for this, so it's uploading right now :P EDIT: Up now

I made this ROM because I'm interested in learning how ROMs work and how they are put together. I'm sorry if this has offended you in some way, as you don't seem to like this at all. This is not just FLB with a Frankish theme stuck on the top, if you had read the OP you would have realised this.

To reiterate for other people, this is a slimmed down version of FLB with some unnecessary apps removed and others replaced. Some apps have been added to improve the general responsiveness of the phone. More space is free in /system/ with this ROM, and more RAM is available too than some others thanks to AutoKiller. Also, the JGMS themes are not just copies of Frankish's themes, they use his as a base and expand on them a lot. A lot of things are added, and this ROM brings together all the Gingerbread tweaks I have made for a full Gingerbread look.
