SuperOneClick roots it in seconds.

Thanks Rusty, I did a search and had already found SuperOneClick, but thanks for the confirmation that it's the app to use. I'm a Mac user but I have a Hackintosh. And a HD with Win7 on it. I suppose I will have to install drivers for the O2X. I should be able to root my chicks ASUS Transformer. But she seems very happy with as it is. I think it's just me wanting to play with it. :D

Thanks again. Anil.

EDIT; I have looked at MONO the cross-platform open source .NET framework that is available for the Mac. But in the interests of possible future support requests, I will use Win 7. Which I must admit I do like a lot, even being a long-term Mac user. :)

I bought my O2X in handtec.co.uk, and today price is £244.99 without VAT.

Cool, but you could have bought it for £269.99 inc. VAT from eXpansys.co.uk but that price expires today at 12pm GMT. I bought mine this morning. You still got it for a good price though.

Have fun. Anil

The sale is over (ended at 2pm bst) but the price seems to have stayed put which is good for anyone after one still. A car charger seems to have found its way in to my order for free which is a nice plus.

Nice one. A freebie! The sad fact is, I have been re-watching a video review of the handset. Tech porn at its best. :)

Hopefully the handset will arrive tomorrow, I seriously doubt it. My chick is flying back on Sunday, so I might have to wait 2 weeks to get my sweaty geek hands on it. No matter, the hard part of choosing a handset and then getting a good price is over. And my tech porn binge has confirmed it is an excellent handset. I'm really glad you spoke up and pointed me towards eXpansys. Nice to have a proper retailer to back you up.

I hope yours comes tomorrow. Anil.

PS. If you need an O2X tech fix, go here.

Hi Russ, would I be able to install Clockwork Recovery by simply installing ROM Manager and flashing recovery that way? Or is there another preferred method?

Many thanks. Anil.

Yes you can, although if you want a newer version, I build them and keep an upto date thread on here/XDA

Thanks Russ, I have seen your Clockwork threads here and at XDA. Since you build recoveries, can I ask what are the differences in the recoveries, bug fixes, more features?

Guest Rusty!

It's generally bug fixes, although new features (such as using the touch keys to navigate) crop up from time to time.

count me among the blade 2 optimus 2x converts. Purchased it on Friday from expansys and it should be arrivef when i get to the Uk on the 27th...

Still wondering how the switch from the blade will feel like, i'm a gadget freak and Rom maniac (i'm not affraid to get my hands dirty).

blade was a nice stable piece of hardware and with the gingerbread leak is at its best. I hope i'll be able to replicate the same feeling with the 2x.

Tegra SoC is great, have a Vega tablet and it rocks on it, should be a great experience on the 2 x too.

one niceeeeee 2x review can be found on the Anandtech site (just google it), all the internals are explained and tested.

i'll keep you posted with my adventure.

A2DP is a very useful feature which I use daily. Wouldn't be prepared to lose that. The Blade is a seriously inferior android device, but having said that depreciation for me was negligable.

RRP for the Blade is £109, RRP for the O2X is £449. Even at the heavily discounted price of £270 it's almost three times the price of the Blade. Is there anything else that I can buy for £109 that's as good as the Blade? No. ZTE did a great job with the Blade. The low price point and this community allowed me to try ANDROID and discover I really like it.

I wouldn't call it "seriously inferior", you have to compare like for like. Would you call a Toyota seriously inferior to a formula one car?

By the way which ROM are you running on your O2X? Thanks. Anil.

Mine hasn't arrived still, i think its due today so I'll pick it up from my folks house tomorrow, a bit annoying as my girlfriends home today so i could have had it sent there instead.

You're right when you say it won't be 3 times what the.blade is but it doesn't really work like that, providing I notice a significant improvement over my hero I'll be happy, the tech in this thing got outdated so quickly that it really struggles with basic tasks now

Hi, eXpansys have sold out in the UK. Not surprising really. Unfortunately my girlfriend didn't fly back on Sunday, a bit bummed out about that. But I suppose the upside is my O2X might arrive in time for her to bring the phone back with her.

It should arrive by Wednesday, will be interested to hear when yours arrives. My Blade is still great, works great with all the stuff I throw at it. My Blade is overclocked to 787Mhz and it is rock-solid stable. The only reason I'm upgrading is so my girlfriend can get rid of her NOKIA 5800, she all ready has a 10" tablet. I would like a bigger screen, and that's about it. I was hoping the new ZTE Skate would be my next handset, but for the price the O2X, is excellent value.

Fingers crossed yours arrives tomorrow. Anil.

Hi, well, at least yours has arrived. Hopefully you can play with it whilst your away. My order was placed on hold, but my girlfriend responded to their security question immediately. They have sold out now. I hope they kept one for me.

It seems they included a car charger in my order too. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the handset. Anil.

thats exactly what happened to me, i blame not being able to pick a card type when paying. They were closed for the night when i got the message so I cancelled my order and redid it with the amazon checkout to make sure it went through properly. Shame I wont be able to play with it while i'm away, we are going to a festival so it's my beaten up £20 nokia until then so i have a hope in hell one of its batteries will still have some power come Monday morning and don't really care if it gets nicked. Got tuesday and wednesday off next week to go get our new dog and help him settle in so will be spending all the time split between the dog and the o2x, sadly i'm well looking forward to 2 days with the dog and phone.

A festival, at least you won't be twiddling your thumbs. A new dog, I love animals, especially dogs. I would love to have a dog, we have loads of space here, and practically everybody on our street has a dog. But I'm too happy with my freedom, I can come and go as I please. Enjoy the Dog & Phone, I'm sure that's a pub in the UK. :)

Anil.

PS. Sorry to others for zero ANDROID talk in this post.

yeah the thread has got a bit sidetracked, i'll try to post my initial thoughts before i go but i wont get around to doing any rooting or custom roms, i'll save that for later. on the plus side mobile reception in our flat sucks so i'll have to go walk the dog to test out the 3g signal properly.

I'm not sure about the car analogy but I would call a moped seriously inferior to something like a Yamaha R1. So yes, the ability of the Blade is seriously inferior to that of the 2x, particularly in areas such as gaming. Seriously who cares, it's only my opinion.

I'm not sure about the motorcycle analogy. Again you're comparing items at very different price points. What else can you buy at the Blades price point? A Yamaha R1 is at least 4x times the cost of a moped, perhaps you have loads of money and price is no object? If you had said the Blade is technically inferior, then I wouldn't disagree, but you didn't.

Anil.

Back on-topic. :)

I had to ring expansys today because their website said my order was still on hold. Anyway, the support lady said they hadn't received an email from my girlfriend, then the support lady checked, 10 secs later, yes sir we have received your email. The item will be shipped today. Yay! :D

Another bona fide bargain! Anil.

Well so far so good, mines all set up and I'm posting this from tapatalk. Compared to my hero its nice and fast, had a small issue with my heroes sd card saying its corrupt in the o2x, that's easily fixed when i get the time next week though. Its taking some getting used to with the bigger screen but its just the right size for me.

I'm liking the built in dlna app, already managed to get it to stream from my nas and play from my phone on my tv and its a function i may have to use more often.

So yes, I'm imprrssed so far, i think its worth the slashed price we've paid. Some minor things could be better but its all stuff i just need more time with to sort or get used to.

My O2x arrived on Monday (ordered on Friday night)... good job at that Xpansys! Now the phone is waiting for my return to the UK this weekend...

Seems like the delievries go pretty well.

My trusted Blade does the most fantastic job for the basics (calls, twitter, facebook and stellar gps navigation), what I miss is a larger screen and true multi tasking, the LG O2x should cover all basis.

Hi everett_psycho, eXpansys shipped my phone yesterday and it arrived this morning. Unfortunately my girlfriend is not returning til mid next week, so I won't get the phone until then. At least it will give me time to plan a root/upgrade strategy for the phone. I use Cyanogenmod on my Blade, and would very much like it on the O2X.

Enjoy the festival. Anil.
