A few days ago, Pocketnow seemed to have gotten their hands on a build of HTC Sense 4.0, the newest version of the much maligned skin from HTC, based on ICS. Surprisingly, their opinion seems pretty positive. Apparently, a lot of the user interface has been cleared up, and they seem to have got rid of the terrible “bubble” style that HTC has employed for so long. Stated improvements for the interface also includes a new lockscreen and task switcher that sounds like it emulates the 3D carousel that has featured in the Sense launcher recently.

HTC are apparently forgoing the use of on-screen keys that are popular on the Galaxy Nexus and a feature of ICS. They have sadly not given a reason, but I can assume it's based on HTC's aversion to Google's design standards.

Interestingly, Pocketnow says that HTC have created possibly the best email client on Android for Sense 4.0. Stated improvements here include better identification of read emails and a very good threaded message system.

A few more enhancements are reeled off, but it’s the integration with Dropbox that’s the most interesting- a few months ago HTC partnered with Dropbox to offer 5GB storage free to each user, and it seems now that each Sense 4.0 running phone will include a pretty humongous 50GB of free storage. Also promised is a deep integration between the system and Dropbox, too.

If you want to see the full report on this early version head over to their article now. There is of course a chance that some of the features mentioned may be changed before release, so take this with a grain of salt.

UPDATE: A video of the HTC Ville running Sense 4.0 has appeared and it looks very...sensish. Not what I'd say is the massive update stated above. At least they've flattened some of the effects, but the settings animation is going to get old quickly.
