Create a socket listener to start a process?

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about creating an inet.d style TCP listener on this phone?

I'd quite like to use stunnel to get e-mail over imaps (imap through ssl), however to do this currently you have to start stunnel manually. The idea is that the phone talks to localhost stunnel rather than your mail server, wrapping the connection up in a secure ssl connection.

It would be much better if you had a process listening on the imap port on the phone, then point the e-mail client at localhost. This would bring up the stunnel connection when required, transfer the mail across it, then ideally close the connection when done. A full DIY ssl implementation like this should work for pop (and anything else, e.g. VNC) as well.
