Can't you just press vol up/down while on a call (e.g. to voicemail) and then adjust the volume and the it works OK from there on (until a reboot maybe?)? that's what I did when I was using CM10.1 and it was fine. By loud i meant noise. Even on lowest volume, i can't understand what people say to me, its like echo or something. Too much noise to understand.
