Guest PaulOBrien
Sony have today announced the Xperia Z Ultra, featuring a huge 6.4" display. Launching globally in Q3 2013, the device is one of many coming later this year to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. LTE connectivity is onboard, all powered by a 3000mAh battery inside a 6.5mm, 212g chassis. Like the Z, the Z Ultra is waterproof and dust resistant, actually taking it's tolerance to the next level with IP55/IP58 certification. The Z Ultra's 6.4" Full HD display features Sony's new "TRILUMINOS" technology for mobile, creating a wider palette of rich natural colours thanks to Sony’s BRAVIA TV expertise. X-Reality for mobile is also present - Sony’s intelligent super resolution display technology which analyzes each image and reproduces lacking pixels to optimize quality for the sharpest videos. It analyses elements depending on the scene and adjusts them based on pattern, outline and colour composition. It also strengthens subtle patterns and accurately portrays their detailed feel, as well as reinforcing bold outlines. A rather unique feature of the screen is that you can write and sketch on the screen with any graphite pencil and any stylus or pen with a tip wider than 1mm! The front and back of the device are made of tempered glass, housed in a solid metal frame. The same 'OmniBalance' design language as the Xperia Z and Tablet Z is evident, and the choice of black, white or purple colour finishes also match the lesser Z. The 8 Megapixel camera features Exmor RS for mobile, HDR for both photos and film and Superior Auto mode automatically activates HDR and noise reduction when needed. Most of us will feel a bit silly putting a 6.4" device to our head and actually, you know, talking... and with that in mind Sony are also launching the SBH52 Smart Bluetooth Handset which provides easy hands-free call handling with a single press, while leaving your phone in your pocket. The OLED display lets you browse your call log, view text messages and see who’s calling you. You can use it as a stereo music headset to listen to your tracks or to the built-in standalone FM radio and pairing is a piece of cake thanks to NFC. The Z Ultra has dock pins to save you the annoyance of continually opening those port covers. It looks nice enough but man, it might be thin but it's still huge. Thoughts? Guest Tosty55
Looks good but 1 - That's a tablet, not a phone 2 - 8 megapixel camera? I totally agree, using that thing to make calls... As a table it looks great, as a "mobile phone" I'm not so sure. That's my opinion on it though.
