I am on GB B895 and can't upgrade to ICS, no OTA offered

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am not offered the OTA upgrade anymore. I was offered it in the past and rejected it as I wanted to stay on GB.

Now I want to upgrade but it is not offered to me.

I could try to install manually but not sure if it is possible to go from 895 to ICS.

Also, I cannot find the upgrade anymore on Huawei website: http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=index&directoryId=3372&treeId=0&tb=1

Any help how I can do this? I want to sell the phone so I just want to make it as factory default as possible.

Thanks!

If you want to sell it, just make "factory format" and dont start the phone ;)

When you force update to ICS, you need to "zero" imei (not recommended by modacco masters), but it is the only way... BUT - factory defaul as possible? When you "zero" imei, you need to ROOT your phone, backup IMEI, zero it, force update to ICS (only one is B952), run it, again ROOT it, and restore IMEI -> and the ROOT still will be there...

So, just make FACTORY FORMAT and sell the phone. If the new owner will need update to ICS, he will do it himself ;)

Is that true? I thought that this allowed any ICS to GB downgrade or GB to ICS upgrade?

Would it be possible for the original poster to install the GB to ICS upgrade ZIP and then install the stock B952 update.app if they want to get it ICS?

Don't think that is true. I don't need to force ICS, it was offered to me OTA automatically 10 times, but I refused it and now when I want it, it is not offered any more, is really strange.

I have seen somewhere someone saying that Huawei or Vodafone are not offering the update any more for some reason.

I found the update here: http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/downloads/detail/index.htm?id=13968

But in the instructions it says you can only update from 934 and above, is that true?

Where can I find the GB to ICS upgrade zip? The link is for the ICS itself.

You need to read the first link that I posted!

Thanks, I did read it, can't find it, if it is there in the first place.

Any help would be appreciated.

http://www.modaco.com/topic/361310-downgrade-upgrade-from-recovery/

I made two zips which you can install in recovery, one to downgrade to GB and another to upgrade to ICS. This way you don't need to install UPDATE.APP or do imei hack. Just install the zip in recovery and then install any custom rom following its instructions (wipes, etc).

DOWNGRADE TO GB: http://www.solidfile...m/d/e208f49ff9/

This will install GB baseband (B895), GB bootloader and CWM5 recovery. It doesn't include a rom.

UPGRADE TO ICS: http://www.solidfile...m/d/7d1f753ecb/

This will install ICS baseband (B952), ICS "unlocked" bootloader and CWM5 recovery. It doesn't include a rom.

So if you want to go from GB to ICS or ICS to GB you flash the relevant ZIP above in CWM/TWRP and then you get a suitable ICS or GB ROM to install on top of the appropriate "substrate" (my term here).

E.g. you are on GB and want to go to Stock+ ICS so you flash the GB to ICS zip above and then you flash Stock+.

Or you are on ICS and want to go to AtomicMod GB so you flash the ICS to GB zip above and then flash AtomicMod.

If you are on GB now then you could try installing the GB to ICS zip above and then installing stock B952 (forced if necessary).

However I have never done this myself so cannot vouch for it.

Hope this helps.

Great. So you're sorted then?

Stock+ is a custom ROM based on stock B960 ICS.

This and lots of other custom ROMs are in the Development forum.

Yes, seems sorted, everything seems to work.

I am happy with B952, never heard of B960, didn't see it on the website.

B952 is the latest version available from the Huawei download site.

Other later versions may have been offered as updates in certain markets and people may have pulled the ROMs from the phone and started cooking their own custom ROMs with them.

If B952 works well for you then you're sorted.

To clear up any confusion updating is fine there is no need to zero your imei it is downgrading is the issue.

Well I do agree with what you. But so many people don't see it or feel there don't want CWM on there phone. I also like to point out that has been out since march I joined in march 11 days after that was released and it has been countless number of people trying to do degrades via other guides who use zeroing imei. If I had my way I would remove every thread that mentions DFS tool (I used it at first and ended up screwing my phone up) , zeroing your imei and anything else that is going to screw a phone.

Nobody mentioned anything about zeroing the IMEI. So not clarifying anything.

And about the upgrade, the issue was that the instructions mentioned the upgrade can only be applied to B936 and up.

where did you hear there were a lot of bricked phones? (its true the OTA ICS update has mysteriously disappeared though).

There is a official response from of why on the Vodafone removed it. It is on the Vodafone Forums some where...

I must say the un branded update from Huawei website looks so much better compared to the Vodafone upgrade, but of course OTA is easier for most non-techy people.

If you use the OTA updata.app from here...

http://www.solidfile...m/d/711d267a7d/

It will allow you to OTA update to you to B952 Vodafone version. But as you have highlighted the Huawei version is probably better but personally I don't think there is any real difference expect from the apps and the boot image. Also remember to install rekey since the fix has not be applied to our firmware version.
