Guest Paul [MVP] Posted May 28, 2003 Report Share Posted May 28, 2003 Microsoft Corp. announced two new sales agreements for devices using its Smartphone operating system and reiterated commitments from T-Mobile in the United Kingdom and Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. in the United States to sell Smartphone devices. Swedish mobile operator TeliaSonera said it will sell a Smartphone device built by High Tech Corp. starting next month under the Qtek 7070 brand. Separately, TeliaSonera said it will cut about 700 workers as part of a previously announced restructuring. Further, retailer Synergy said it will sell a Smartphone in Hong Kong, and that it will be the first Smartphone device to support the Chinese language. Operator CSL will support the device. Synergy said it will also operate a wireless portal with a variety of content for Smartphone users. Microsoft is working to sell Smartphone devices across the globe. Last year the company signed European carrier Orange to sell Smartphone devices in the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Switzerland and Holland. Orange has so far sold 70,000 of its SPV Smartphones. Also, Portugal operator TMN announced it will launch a Smartphone in association with petroleum company GALP, and Smart said it will sell a Smartphone in the Philippines. "Microsoft has spent the past 27 years creating software that improves the way people live, work and communicate," said Ken Wye Saw, Microsoft Asia Pacific's general manager for network service providers. "Now, we're able to deliver a familiar and powerful software experience on a mobile phone to people around the world."
