Guest solo Posted December 12, 2003 Report Share Posted December 12, 2003 I convert a DVD to DIVX as follows: 1) Use SmartRipper (or equivalent) to 'rip' the VOB files off the DVD and onto your pc harddrive. 2) Use VirtualDub MPEG with ClintEastmans VirtualDub filter to convert the VOB files into a single DIVX avi file. Result - a DIVX avi that you can put straight on a SPV and play using PocketMVP - this will be rotated 90 degrees on the SPV screen thus making best use of spv screen space (ideal for widescreen DVDs) You can find Clint Eastmans VirtualDub filter here => http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=6358 VirtualDub MPEG can be download here (it is free) => http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/index.html SmartRipper can be downloaded here (free) => http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...smartripper.cfm Pocket MVP can be downloaded here (install onto SPV) => http://www.angelfire.com/alt/spv-soft/ You might also need an AC3 decompressor on your pc, and if so you can get one here (free) =>http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/index.html It might seem like a lot of messing around, but all you need to do is install all of the above software, place your DVD in the drive, run smartRipper, run VirtualDub MPEG (using ClintEastmans VirtualDub filter), copy the avi file over to your SPV and enjoy! No it's not free! The rotate feature is very useful to me, especially as the SPV aspect ratio is not ideal for widescreen DVD's. Set Bit rate to 200, frame to 30, speed to 1, size 320*240, clicked convert in the advanced program and 70 minutes later the entire Iceage DVD was converted perfectly. Solo I do it the same way sort of, except that I make a DivX first then convert that to SPV format. Didn't realise that you could do it straight from the VOB's to SPV format, I had that MPEG Virtual Dub too and never used it! :? I made that clip for my Pocket PC, although it plays well on my E200. Try this one I made especially for the SPV It runs perfectly on my E200 but you just have to reduce the frame rate etc when you encode the clip if you want it to play better on a less powerful device. The problem with Smartphone media player is the screen keeps turning off and you can't play full screen. I can't get Poctet TV or MVP to work properly on the E200. Is there another player available? The process we need. 1)insert dvd 2)open software 3)load some optimized settings so u don't spend days having to tweak it (or have them built in so it's even easier) 4)hit encode! 5)few mins later you have a smooth video rotated through 90 degrees. If I remeber correctly he had previews for T3 and The Matrix. The only difference to what he produced and what I produce is that I use VirtualDub MPEG which allows me to go straight from the vob to avi. When I get a spare moment I will post a short sample... However, yesterday I tried the following guide from SPV4U. :lol: :D Result first time, converted FARGO perfectly, smooth, and good audio quality. Fortunately I already had all the software on my PC from my previous attempts.
